Really nice reset of a day. Took the train out to Plimmerton and walked along the beach. I touched the ocean! The sun came out!
Also figured out how to do laundry to dry off our wet clothes from SWE/RSA. It was coin-op which was hard to find. I remember having a lot to manage last time as someone with a coin phobia bc their ones, twos, and fives were coins so you couldn't just ignore them, but Wellington has followed the US cashless trends in the intervening years.
BRAZIL opened strong! BORGES hat trick! My Racing babies are all performing so well. Germany more convincing than in their run up friendlies. I'd say the big names who were convincing in the first round were Japan, Brazil, Germany, Spain, USA, and Australia. England, Canada, France, and Sweden need to show me more.

JAPAN 5 - ZAMBIA 0
New superstition unlocked. If one of us leaves the room (peeing, getting drinks) the ball ends up in the back of the net (not always counted but it gets there). We are 3/3 on that so far. The filming PKs superstition is still alive and we have more data now! PKs filmed: 6, PKs made 1 (one block was taken back by goalie off the line, one make was the ensuing retake)
Did expect Japan to show up ready, but didn't think they'd shut 3-2 vs Germany Zambia ft Barbara Branda down that much. Chaos continues

Fuck the discourse I was convinced by that win! Lots of ppl saying Vietnam 2023 is not Thailand 2019 didn't believe it themselves. Midfield looked healed! Sullivan and Horan were more comfortable out there than in years. DeMelo start! Smith brace! Where was Lynn Williams?
Got to see my crush Tazuni again at the fan festival. Showed up early to gnab a good spot and there was a dance class so I partook in my rainboots and thermal layers.

First attended match: Spain vs Costa Rica
Walked nine miles today preparing for the game (acquiring thermal layers, gloves, face paint, flags, glitter) and going to it
Costa Rica's fan section brought the energy, but even Solera could not save every of Spain's 40 shots. Hate to think Jorge will be vindicated by this result
Have recorded two penalty shots and they've both been misses... is this the start of new a superstition?

Great to be back in Wellington. Knew my first accommodation would be close to where I stayed when I studied abroad here, but didn't know it would be four houses up the road.
Incredibly nostalgic mood going for the first walk to the pharmacy and it's the same route I took to class each morning. Instantly reminded why I was in the best shape of my life living on top of this hill.

Made it to Wellington after over 24hrs of travel and one missed connection (2 hrs is not enough of a layover if going through customs at Auckland there's a 20 min walk from international to domestic terminals and you need to recheck your bag you were warned)
The World Cup was advertised everywhere right away! And there were featured World Cup docs available to watch on the Air New Zealand flight. I watched one about the history from 91-15 and the Brandi Chastain PK almost made me cry. Safe to say I am properly pumped
It is wild that after over a year of planning it is now actually happening!!

Trying to get one month's worth of belongings into one 23kg bag and one 7kg carry on. Includes all the fan gear and layers for Wellington's unpredictable winter. I'm basically right on the money which doesn't give me much maneuvering room.
This is the final chore of many: weeding the whole yard, laundering all my clothes, cleaning all my rooms, delegating all my house tasks.
The animals know something is up. I haven't been away from Dennis for over a month all his life.
