My eastern blue star lost a bunch of its flower spikes in the crazy wind we had last night. So I saved what I could and put em in a vase for now. They are doing surprisingly well as cut flowers and have a lovely floral almost citrusy green scent. I’ll be pressing a lot of these to preserve them. Kind of thinking of trying an enflourage with them though I don’t know if that wouldn’t be good for putting on skin ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Went on a hike today and found a big ol paper wasp sunning herself. She let me get so close to get these pics with my phone camera. Such a sweetie 🥹 I posted the sighting on INaturalist and possible id is a Coarse-Backed Red Paper Wasp. Spotted Sunday morning April, 13th.

Common garter snakes (yes plural! I didn’t see the second one until I was editing my pics 😂) While I was tending to the compost I heard my dog barking (in a way I knew meant something was up), look up and he’s barking at something in the flower garden.

Went up and sure enough he’s barking at a snake. Luckily they were at a standoff and I don’t believe any bites were exchanged on either side. None that left marks for either one at the very least. Escorted Swamps out and left the snakes be. They’re good pest control and I’m happy to see them again this year. SwampMan also spotted some last year (honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they’re all the same one)

A quick warm up sketch. I’ve been checking the livestock confederacy websites list of heritage breeds. This was the first chicken that caught my eye when I was looking for something to sketch. Andalusian chicken

Went on a hike with my dog today. Starting to see little sprouts of green, not much, but spring should be here soon. Spotted this pond and turkey tail mushrooms growing with the sunlight dappling in. I could’ve sat here for hours eating the sunlight reflect off the leaves and water. The warm green moss calling to me like a beacon.

Mushrooms are maybe false turkey tails or another species im honestly only guessing. Unfortunately this was the closest I could get without getting wet. It might’ve been warm today but not that warm 😂

Went to the botanical gardens this last weekend. It was so nice to get out of the ice and cold wind in the tropical section. I needed warm fresh air and plants 💚

I’ve been working on making some linocut patches lately. These have been a fun project as it’s really taken me out of my perfectionism, each patch is going to have slight differences no matter what I try so I am working on embracing it. Much like in nature I am trying to find the beauty in imperfections.
