Hi! So I’m wondering about the specifics of Moiraine’s memories being altered during her time with the Aelfinn/Eelfinn. I saw some ppl say she falsely remembered characters abusing her but I don’t remember reading this in the books. I get the why of it heppening (changing memories means more feeding) but I don’t remember what specifically was changed? Is there more in RJ’s notes about her memories being altered?
Hello, anon.
Yes, we have some information about Moiraine's time with the Finns from Robert Jordan's notes.
"Damodred, Moiraine: 13 (1),  ~700, reduced to 66/54, 250-260 …………… “She saw that a man she did not recognize (Moridin) came to see her in her captivity and said she was the wrong one, it must be the other.” “(The Eelfinn) have been rummaging through her experiences, making her relive them in the form of dreams that seem like real life, raping her mind in effect. They concentrated on things that engendered strong emotions, whether love or hate or fear of whatever, so long as it is strong. The point is to feed off the engendered emotion. When repetition dulls the emotion, they would alter the events to make the emotions strong again. They always made these changes in slow increments, just enough to strengthen the emotion again without wasting any. Example: Lan dumped in the pond, first just as it really happened, then he became rougher at it until (he) beat her first, and she was so shocked she could not channel; then he made love to her; then he raped her; the she killed him. Slow progressions through possibilities, however improbable they were in reality, just so long as they intensify the emotions. They could not introduce things outside of her memory – for example, somebody she has never seen – but anything in there already could be rearranged any way they wanted. Example: she could as a grown woman watch her mother (dead before she reached adulthood) plot and execute the murder of her father (who died in battle when she was a child) with a collection of people glimpsed during her travels. There have also been periods where she was brought back to consciousness. Awareness of what is happening also increases the emotional aspects. This is the same thing that was done to Lanfear, until she was “rescued” by Moridin/Ishamael. Moiraine doesn’t know what happened to Lanfear. When they passed through the doorframe ter’angreal, she only clung to consciousness long enough to know that they had both passed through, that the doorfame was burning. When she woke, she was floating in air, and they were explaining to her what was going to happen. To heighten her emotions. She believes she had relived a number of incidents for them before that. While floating she could not speak. One set of memories never had to be heightened or changed. Memories of Thom always produced as strong an emotion every time, just as they were. She thinks they are what have kept her sane. She is surprised that years have not passed. One consequence of what was done to her is the erosion of her ability to channel. With the bracelet angreal, she is stronger than she was before, as strong as Nynaeve, true “Forsaken class”. Without it, she has so little ability left, that if she had come to the Tower that way, the would have taught her enough to be safe and hustled her out before her feet had more than touched down. Without it, it is an effort for her to light a candle; she can pick up a book with effort, but the blow she could deliver would be lighter than her arm could give. She hopes that Lanfear is still somewhere there, undergoing the same fate, or at least that she underwent it long enough to suffer the consequences she herself has. She will recall that once she was brought back to consciousness to find a man there (Ishamael, though she doesn’t know it, already as Moridin), apparently young, tall, muscular, beautifully handsome. She was not the woman the wanted. He wasn’t interested in her at all, and he seemed irritated at having his time wasted, impatient. She was returned to the “sleep” in moments, but she recalls his appearance very clearly; he frightened her for some reason, and maybe because he was part of her memory, as was her fear of him, the snakes(?)/foxes(?) incorporated him into her dreams when they went to making things more complicated for her. The reinforcement, plus the things done in those particular dreams, have increased that fear to the point where she shivers thinking of him and her teeth might chatter if she saw him in the flesh."

Note
Hello! I’m visiting the notes next week, anything in particular you’d want looked at? Also is there a breakdown by box online anywhere you know of?
Hello.
I am deeply honored to be asked. Nothing in my mind just if you can dig up some new unknown information would be fine.
If you haven't found it, this link breaks down the organization of the boxes and the notes.
Good luck!

WoT Notes is on the Wheel of Time Resource List
Recently I had the shocking surprise to find these two links on Reddit where somebody has made a list with helpful links and resources for super WoT fans who would love to dive deeper into the lore with more content. Huge thanks to JaimTorfinn for putting this blog into the special list!
Help required!
Wheel of Time Resource List
It is great honor WoT Notes to sit beside all the WoT places that I’ve been looking up to since my first days around the fandom - Encyclopaedia WoT, TheoryLand Interview Database, The 13th Depository, Steven Cooper’s WoT Timeline or The WoT FAQ. When I started this project 7 (9) years ago I couldn’t dream for the blog to be in one sentence with these titans. I am not worthy and certainly I do not think I have done anything close to the huge inspiration these sites provided for thousands of WoT fans.
But it is still an honor. It is also baffling to think about how this blog doesn’t have alternative after so many years of people visiting the library. I started the project with the idea that it would be temporary. I have no access to RJ’s notes after all and I depend on what other fans share publicly. For the last 9 years I hoped that the others will decide to give us full access to what they collected on their visits. Especially Terez and Matt Hatch who already run the TheoryLand Interview Database and who could know how important is this information to be gathered. But I am surprised to say that even to these days information of the notes is still not easily available for fans. For example Matt Hatch still put some notes only in his videos and never released them in textual form.
This project shouldn’t have to exist and yet it is the only place where you can find (most of the shared in public) the notes gathered in one place. Truly wild thought.
May be someday I will have the chance to visit the notes myself.
I hope you really enjoy your time with the notes devouring for more WoT content.
The notes are great insight in the mind of great man and author.
Let the Light keep you safe.

P.S. WoT-Notes was created 7 years ago in 2016 but the first share of the RJ’s notes is in 2014 in my main blog WoT-Tidbits.

RJ’s notes Part 80 by Bain & Chiad
Bain & Chiad
Robert Jordan was not sure about whether or not Bain & Chiad would go with Perrin to rescue Rand at Dumai’s Wells. In Bain’s entry RJ wrote - Bain remained in Cairhien with Faile and Chiad went to Dumai’s Wells. In both entries RJ says: Or did both go? Check the markbench for Cairhien. In Chiad’s entry RJ wrote: Or did Bain and Chiad go?
Gaul’s entry is very much just what we know. Nothing juicy there.
BOX 20, Folder 19, page 16, Wise Ones
Effect of marriage on Melaine: she seems to have to work at being prickly, or so it seems to Egwene. She is quite besotted with Beal, and despite her pregnancy very much caught up in the discovery of sex, as I think she was a virgin despite her age.
BOX 20, Folder 19, Page 69
The idea of one woman having more than one husband (as Myrelle has done) is bizarre to the Aiel. They do not believe that men can be as close friends as women. Though men can be spear-brothers, if in the same society, and men can be near-brothers, there is no provision for men adopting one another as first-brothers. OR IS THERE? I THINK I SAID SIMPLY THAT THIS RARELY HAPPENS. NEED TO CHECK.
Aiel do not know mushrooms as food. Few such grow anywhere in the Waste and when some are used medicinally by Wise Ones, all of these can kill, some in very small doses.
Box 20, Folder 19, page 74
A man listens to his _______ before his own mother, and a woman to her ______ before her own. NEED TO WORK THIS OUT.
Box 60, Folder 19, page 90,91
Speaking to a man of his father-in-law or to a wojman of her mother-in-law (second father and second mother) is considered hostile enough to justify drawing weapons unless they had mentioned them first.
Box 61, Folder 2, page 10
Myrelle took him (Lan) to bed; this to last until she has begun making his (sic) think of life again, to however small a degree, it being her belief that fucking makes you center on life rather than death.
Lamelle, Maiden, one of the three worst at mothering Rand, made lousy soup.
Maidens at night wear small clothes.
Nuditiy is not usually casual at Aiel culture but there are some public places where people are nude – the sweat tent is ok, in front of gai’shain is not ok. Sweat tents are casual with the same gender otherwise it’s embarrassing. Being naked outdoors before or after the sweat tent is ok. Otherwise outdoor nudtity is extremely shaming if you are seen. The amount of shame you feel if naked outside of the sweat tent depends on how well you know the person seeing you. It boils down to the idea that nudity is more embarrassing the less control you have over the situation.
Box 20, Folder 19, page 23
Status amond Wise Ones is determined by ji, not by channeling strength or age. Plus leadership abilities and fitness for specific tasks. Among the Wise Ones, leadership can pass from one woman to a second to a third and back to the first as the task before them changes.
Box 20, Folder 19, page 26-27
Sorilea overrides the usual process of choosing an appropriate leader for each situation. She takes charge whenever she is there. But she is considered to have very great ji, plus being a very forceful personality; besides which, most of the Wise Ones think she is very smart, very capable, and very likely the best leader in most situations.
Box 62, Folder 11, pages 1-2
The Maidens stopped following (Rand) around at the time of the attack in Cairhien, though they ran to try to defend him. They were angry, and sulking, because he had not taken them on the attack against Illian or the attack against the Seanchan, and they barely bought his explanations. They would be worried at his disappearance, worried that he had been killed. When they find out he isn’t dead, they’ll be furious with him. It isn’t quite the same as keeping them out of battle, but clearly he is in dange, and he has excluded them. Remember that Someryn and some others beat him up.
The sources of the bleakness are manifold. There is the fact that the Car’a’carn really is a wetlander. He may be of their blood but he knows only what he has been taught of Aiel customs. There is the secret revealed to them by Rand at Al'cair Dal dome of their origins in the Age of Legends. The fear that perhaps their warlike ways are in themselves another betrayel of the Aes Sedai and inability to accept those origins. The fear that Rand has somehow an Aes Sedai leas fastened to his neck added to the new view of Aes Sedai manifesting itself has created a new source to feed the bleakness.

RJ’s notes Part 79 by Bain & Chiad
Note. The following text is manually written by listening as most of the notes were only read and not shown on the screen. There are going to be some mistakes from the original text because of it as English is not my native language. I would appreciate if someone can help me to fix the transcription.
FOR USE WITH AELFIN OR EELFIN (COLON) PIXIES/FAIRIES STEAL THE NOURISHMENT FROM HUMAN FOOD. IT STILL LOOKS RIGHT BUT YOU COULD SUPPOSEDLY STARVE TO DEATH WHILE EATING YOUR FILL.
The Aelfinn do not require any bargaining but questions touchning on the Shadow? or your own future? are exceedingly dangerous. What the Aelfinn take in return is emotion, a recording so to speak from the questioner as well as from others who fall into their hands in ways other than coming to ask questions. To the Aelfinn human emotions is like a drug while their answers are true if cryptic they will maintain a contact with anyone they deal with continuing to record their emotions. They can force someone who is their captive to relive memories so as to produce fresh emotions? Anyone who visits them is fitted with a “link” that also feeds emotion to the Aelfinn.
[Rhuidean, Eelfinn] What they get out of it is a recording of the asker’s memories including physical sensation which acts on them as human emotion does on the Aelfinn. Like the Aelfinn they also maintain contact with people with whom they have come into contact and so can continue to record memories from that point right up to the person’s death. They can force someone “relive” their memories again and again. Or can they?
The Eelfinn and Aelfinn sometimes work together especially with captives. For both the snakes and the foxes the repetition of one person’s emotions or memories eventually causes a dulling effect from them. Together however they can force variations in the emotional responses and the memories that are being relived. They must do it together since is the Eelfin who imbide memory who can alter the emotional responses though incrementally in the Aelfin who imbide emotion who can alter their living on memories again incrementally. In this way they can put the victim through variations of their memories with the result that the intensity of the experience and thus of the emotion and memory are heightened. Victims frequently can no longer tell which are true memories of events or their true emotional responses to certain things in their past. It can also damage certain abilities in people such as the ability to channel.
Rhuidean and Ogier stedding are among the few places that cannot be entered in Tel’aran’rhiod. THIS MAY HAVE CHANGED CONCERNING RHUIDEAN NOW THAT THE BARRIER HAS BEEN DESTROYED. RHUIDEAN IS THRIVING, GROWING. ALL CLANS EXCEPT THE SHAIDO HAVE PEOPLE THERE NOW. FIRST OGIER MAY BE BEGINNING TO REBUILD BY END OF FIRES [of Heaven].
Graendal herself is not one to go digging about hunting for things. Whatever she finds she wants to keep for herself and if any sharing is done it will be on her terms.
In the outline for A Memory of Light Egwene does not die, instead she is actually pregnant at the end of the books. And Egeanin does save her which she does in the books but in the outline that’s her end.
In the outline the Horn of Valere is actually retrieved by Mat, Olver and one of Perrin’s Asha’man from the White Tower. It is hidden in a secret panel in the White Tower and only Siuan and Verin know where it is.
Elayne fills the basements [of Caemlyn] with oil and sets them on fire.
Traditionally the Aiel sweat tents are men only and women only and to have co-ed sweat tent would be uncomfortable.

RJ’s notes Part 78 by Matt Hatch
Note. The following text is manually written by hearing as most of the notes were only read and not shown on the screen. There are going to be some mistakes from the original text because of it as English is not my native language. I am sorry for the inconvenience and I would appreciate if someone can help me to fix the transcription.
1996 Letter to Bill Fawcett
34. World View. […] Also, extend Seanchan a little farther south. Make southern portion of Seanchan wider by 75%, all south of equator.
Professional correspondence, 1996-2008, Box 57
Seanchan’s salute is a fist pressed to the heart normally to the left.
Seanchan insists on protocol before comfort including damane rising and bowing when sul’dam enters the room. Someone out of the Blood greeting a High Lord or High Lady is expected to prostrate themselves fully and usually to kiss the floor ground.
Carlinya Sorevin - an Aes Sedai of the White Ajah. Min had a viewing about her and in that viewing there was a tattoo of a raven on or near her. A lot of people thought that had to do with the Seanchan. That’s not how it turned out. But in Robert Jordan’s notes does say she is fated to be captured by the Seanchan and made damane. Everything that shows up in the Robert Jordan’s notes doesn’t necessarily mean it actually translates to a plot that ends up happening. Carlinya stayed in the White Tower and she didn’t end up captured by the Seanchan.
Although that king Roedran as much looked down upon, he will turn out to be one of the better opponents of the Seanchan. He is willing to follow Mat’s lead much more than any other nobles.
Fate of the Shaido.
This is from the beginning of book 8. The Shaido will fall under the control of the Seanchan. Mainly because they have no other choice. They are scattered, not united, surrounded by enemies for most Shaido the choice between annihilation and fighting for the Seanchan rather than against them is not a hard call. They would be welcomed in a way because Seanchan’s records would indicate their fierceness as fighters. The fact that the Aiel were the only ones to defeat Hawkwing. Plus by that time the Seanchan will have encountered the Aiel here and seen it firsthand. Under Seanchan law they would be allowed to keep their permanent gai-shain, their slaves who simply count as covale - property. Under Seanchan law however Wise Ones who can channel, of course are marath’damane – there is no getting around that. The discoveries of the true nature of sul’dam is still fairly closely held secret. Sevanna might well cooperate in this amalgamation of the Shaido and the Seanchan forces in the beginning at least. Especially if she is encouraged by the apparent promise of wealth etc. Her normal desire for power would lead her to fight the Seanchan the same as any other wetlander but she is no fool. Besides discovering some of the Wise Ones who opposed her have been collared placed at her disposal would help. Rather along the lines of better to rule in hell then serve in heaven. Especially if your enemies are made to serve you in turn. May be what she would not want to cooperate is in being tattooed with the ravens which all the Shaido are to be and the rituals of submission which she as property of the Imperial family is expected to make. Given the choices though except the ravens as Deathwatch Guards do proudly accept their servants do as property does submissively or fail to accept and face the impaling stake Sevanna would decide to kiss the Daughter of the Nine Moons’ feet, so to speak, and pledge to serve. She would be expected to make sure that the rest of the Shaido accepted as well by emphasizing the honor or however.

RJ’s notes Part 77 by Shanbear16
A visit to the James O. Rigney, Jr. archives
SOURCE
A few weeks ago I was visiting family in Myrtle Beach for the first time. I figured since we were only a few hours away from Charleston I would take a trip down there to visit the College of Charleston’s James Oliver Rigney, Jr. archives. I’ve been a massive WoT fan since around 1998 and was active in online fan communities for a while. Visiting the archives was sort of like a bucket list thing for me. Unfortunately, they didn’t allow any photos (I think that restriction drops sometime in the 2030s). However, they did have a great display put up in honor of the TV show so I was able to take pictures of that. I was also able to take notes! I know there have been a couple of other fans who have posted about what they found in the archives, but I’m hoping I found a couple of things that haven’t been mentioned yet. I’m just going to kind of bullet list some things others might find interesting. Things in quotes are as they were written in the files.
In the plot summary circa 1984-1989 Egwene is spelled “Eguene”
Speaking of different names, Rand was originally Rhys al’Thor The Dragon Reborn, The Hammer
There were a lot of notes and prophecies from Le Morte D’Arthur (which is Sir Thomas Malory’s 15th century telling of the King Arthur story) including a note about “sangreal” being an alternate name for The Holy Grail.
There were a bunch of notes on Arthurian lore in general
There were also notes from The White Goddess (a book by Robert Graves published in 1948 that draws a lot on Irish and Welsh mythology. As far as I can tell Graves tries to connect poetry and mythology together somehow. I’m not sure as I’m unfamiliar with this book). Jordan made a specific note of the name Kadsuane from the book.
Also from the outline: “If the power wielder who first finds al’Thor is at some point made into a crone by the Powers of Sa’khan, she will be a perfect precursor for the hag in the Maiden-Nymph-Hag trio. al’Thor would be the means of her rescue, but not in the same book in which the disaster strikes her.” I found this really interesting because it highlights where Jordan initially wanted this story to go
He also had a note to himself asking if the number of ages should be 7 (“as in so many legends and the bible”) or 9 which would be “a number of magical properties.”
The outline also names “Nyneve Bayal” and “Thom Merilyn”
In his original description of Emond’s Field he noted that the stones from the quarry near the town were used more than 1,000 years before. Also, the ancient city that existed was not noted as Manetheran but as “Etheran”
In the original outline I couldn’t find any mention of Mat or Perrin.
The original name for angreal was “Cris”
Ogier was initially spelled “ogyr.” Speaking of Ogyr, they were initially shorter than men. They were primarily lumbermen and miners.
Lews Therin Telamon? Nah, he was originally called Jaran Telamon!
In Jordan’s notes on books 2-6 the story was originally going to go in a totally different place. Rand was going to be shipwrecked on the coast of “a blight” and he wanders. He becomes Morgase’s lover for a time (!!!!). This is what makes Galad bitter. Rand was to be taken prisoner by “the Queen of the land where he was raised, Elyn’s mother. She wants to kill him but Elyn convinces her not to." Rand is instead blinded by hot irons and turned loose to wander as a beggar. There was a note that he would regain his sight later.
Sea Folk= “oriental/Polynesian” people in appearance
Stone of Tear was originally “Stone of Stair”
“Parts of the Arthurian Legend will be blended with Norse myth, Greek myth, and others.”
From the Memory of Light outline: a reminder to himself that “Dragon is one with the land,” “eclipse should be a central scene in the Last Battle,” and a reference to the Karaethon Cycle told by Thom in The Great Hunt chapter 26 to Rand.
Egwene was to become pregnant!
I can’t remember if this was in the book or not. Mat was to go to Tar Valon. Egwene summons Siuan. Siuan retrieves the Horn of Valere from a secret hiding spot in the study and gives it to Mat.
Aludra’s cannon was originally 3 miles long. RJ made a note that this might possibly be excessive. I personally found that note to be hilarious.
A continuity note from the 1980s says bonding is sex specific (note from me: I think he means gender here?). Men can bond women and women can only bond men. Sooooo clearly this is something that changed!
Warder weapon skill and tracking ability is not given via bonding - this is a skill the warder inherently has.
Jordan considered the name Garad Winden Marsan for Artur Hawkwing.
Here’s another one about the Ogier - there were to be tales that Ogier possess boots that allow one of them to cover ten leagues at a stride in the ways. “Jarad Farstrider (of the story)” supposedly stole (or came in possession of ) a pair of these boots.
Parry Coomb was going to be the closest village to Emond’s Field.
The following may be the absolute best thing I read in Jordan’s notes. I loved it so much I wrote the whole thing word for word:
“How many traditional fantasy elements do we have? If so, under what conditions, and in what manifestations? Giants? Elves? Dwarves? Trolls? Ogres? (no fucking unicorns, that’s for damned sure!) Dragons? Beasts of mystery and magic? Sentient animals? Sentient plants? Spirits? Gods?
No Gods
No spirits
No dragons
Beasts of mystery? Certainly, creatures of and creations of the Power
Trolls:Trollocs
Ogres:Ogyr
Giants: The Green Man might qualify. Others? Most likely not"
I went through stacks and stacks of world building notes (an example of this is a list of what each nation calls The Dark One). I also came across a stack of papers about 4 inches tall of questions for Maria Simons (continuity editor and research assistant for Team Jordan) with a few answers that she provided.
So that’s everything I took notes on! It was really neat seeing his world building and original ideas for the series. Every now and then I saw a personal note in there including a note about taking Harriet’s car to the mechanic!
I will say the librarians and staff in Special Collections were lovely (even if they had to talk me down from 45 boxes I asked to be pulled down to 20). I’m a librarian who has had some training in archives which I mentioned when I made my appointment, but nothing I looked at required special handling so I think if anyone is interested in visiting they need only make an appointment!

TIDBITS AND FUN № 336
While watching the DustyWheel episode about Galad in the notes, I discovered something very curious in them that they didn’t pay attention on.
There is the quote from “Notes on books two trough six” that in this timeline Rand’s mother is Morgase’s sister. Ok.
But few lines later while still on that quote they showed another text that Rand’s first ally will be Morgase who becomes his lover.
Sooo Rand bangs his aunt at that timeline? Are these two quotes connected? Or these are from two different timelines?
I asked Matt Hatch for confirmation about the timelines and here is his answer:
Checked the quotes in that file. It would appear the same timeline.
“After Rand decides that he is indeed the Dragon his first ally will be Morgase, who becomes his lover for a time.”
“His mother was Morgase’s sister who, refusing an unwanted marriage to Maric, fled […].”
(The connection unknown to them both I’d assume.)
 SOURCE
Sooo that scene in Lord of Chaos where Rand is worrying about his blood relation to Elayne gets even more hilarious as a nod by Robert Jordan for the previous incest version of the story.

THE EYE OF THE WORLD
OUTLINE/EXPANDED VERSION
Book One: The Eye of the World
(handwritten note: 3rd)
Box 20, Folder 2
File includes an early TEOTW concept from Beginning to end.
-         “The Two Rivers” is not a thing yet.
-         Tam dies. Moiraine is unable to heal him.
-         Moiraine convinces all men of a certain age from villages nearby they should go to Tar Valon to discover why this attack happened.
-         Nyneve and Eguene accompany them, and the party stays together. As every village they visit has been struck by misfortune. They are often attacked by Trollocs.
-         In Tar Valon, Rand meets Queen Morgase of the city-state of Caemlon, who is married to King Maric Damodred. She hopes that Moiraine finds the true Dragon Reborn so she can rule at his side (until he is gentled, of course)
While there in Tar Valon in this version of the story, they get word that the forsaken and the trollocs are moving through the northern Blight (there is more than one Blight). But the Great Northern Blight is the main one. And they are threating the Eye of the World. So they go rushed to the Blight to protect the Eye of the World from this invading army. And that is how they end up there.
The whole Ba’alzamon blindsiding the Eye of the World doesn’t come in until the next version of the story. Egwene is get raped by one of the Forsaken and then Rand has to heal her. And he does it like in his sleep or something. Or he thinks he is sleeping. And that he uses the power of the Eye of the World. And then Moiraine tells him he is the Dragon Reborn on the spot.
THE EYE OF THE WORLD
OUTLINE/EXPANDED VERSION
Box 20, Folder 2, p.9
One of Morgase’s sons, Galad, who is also in Tar Valon, hates the way his mother flirts. As a reaction to his mother, he not only does not consort with women but has become a total ascetic, expounding on the need for complete purity of the flesh. Also he evinces a strong dislike for any man in whom Morgase shows interest. He goes out of his way to snub the village youths, and even tries to humiliate them.
The one man Galad does not dislike is Lan, who returns the friendship. Lan, co-incidentally, is one of the few men for whom Morgase apparently holds no attraction, and for whom she shows total disregard [NOTE: The last was not always so, for unknown to any but Lan and Morgase, Galad is Lan’s son. Morgase married Maric instead of Lan, and Lan has ignored her existence ever since. She reciprocates. Lan cares for his son a great deal, however, though he cannot reveal his fatherhood.]
Eye of the World [Part One]
FILE: OUTLINE1
and
Book One: The Eye of the World
[Part Two]
FILE: OUTLINE2
Box 20, Folder 2
Highlights of some changes from the prior file:
-         The “Two Rivers” take shape including names like Mountains of Mist & Taren Ferry.
-         The pre-Festival trip to Emond’s Field takes shape in all its detail including the Fade.
-         The gleeman Thom Merilyn was brought down from Baerlan, and Edward White the peddler is in the village with his stories.
-         Tam still dies.
-         The party still goes to Tar Valon but includes an unspecified number of boys from only Emond’s Field. Nyneve goes with, Eguene followes them and joins in Taren.
-         This time the party splits, and some are driven to the land of the Ogyr near the Dragonwall, Rand befriends Jak Vladad, a young Ogyr, who joins the party.
-         Morgase is now the ruler of the city-state of Arranellon. Still married to Maric.
Padan Fain (Edward the White) met with the boys and tells the story of his escape in Tar Valon instead of Baerlone.
Book One: The Eye of the World [Part Two]
FILE: OUTLINE2
Box 20, Folder 2, p.5
One of Morgase’s sons, Galad, who is also in Tar Valon, hates the way is mother flirts. As a reaction to his mother, he not only does not consort with women but become a total ascetic, expounding on the need for complete purity of the flesh. [NOTE: Galad will become a Power Wielder of great ability after Rand cleanses the male source of Power, but he will go over to Sha’tan] Also he evinces a strong dislike for any man in whom Morgase shows the slightest interest. He goes out of his way to snub the village youths, and even tries to humiliate them.
The one man Galad does not dislike is Lan, who returns the friendship warlmly despite Galad’s somewhat cold nature. Lan, co-indcidentally, is one of the few men for whom Morgase apparently holds no attraction, and for when she shows total disregard. [NOTE: This last was not always so, for unknown to any but Lan and Morgase, Galad is Lan’s son. Morgase married Maric instead of Lan, for Lan was already a Warder and Maric was powerful lord in his land. SEE NOTES AT END. Lan has ignored her existence ever since. She reciprocates. Lan cares for his son a great deal, however, though he cannot reveal his fatherhood.]

This is notes on books 2-6, but it is not clear that they follow the outline in previous files. Maybe written earlier?
-         In previous outlines, it may be that after the events at the Eye of the World. Rand flees his fate, ends up shipwrecked on the coast of a Blight, though Elyn/Arinel (earlier names for Elayne) is not with him as she was in TEOTW outlines when he fled.
-         The Aes Sedai are rulers of city-states in this land (like pre-a’dam Seanchan was in canon). He is captured and given to a woman and a general who is the daughter of one of those Aes Sedai rulers. They fall in love, but Sha’tan is moving there too and he reveals himself as a Power wielder and has to flee. The woman lets him go but her army takes Stair (Tear) for him later.
-         Rand spends some time with the Sea Folk.
-         Rand’s mother is Morgase’s sister in this version.
After Rand decides that he is indeed the Dragon his first ally will be Morgase, who becomes his lover for a time. This makes Galad his bitter opponent, and sends Galad over to Sha’tan.
THE GREAT HUNT
Continuity #1
Box 45, Folder 1, pp.19-26
A few Highlights from this File
-         Galad overhears Nynaeve, Egwene, Elayne, and Min talking about Toman Head, insists on going with them because they won’t stay behind.
-         Jordan considers how much Galad hear about the Black Ajah, and maybe that convinces him he has to go.
-         Liandrin isn’t happy but accepts taking Galad along through the Ways.
Elaynes’ feelings about Galad. She despises him. All her life she has seen him doing good, doing the right thing no matter who was hurt. It is his lack of compassion, his lack of give for human weakness, that makes her sure he is a fraud in his goodness. She cannot trust him.
They travel the Ways (safely, despite Egwene’s/Nynaeve’s extreme nervousness about Machin Shin. Is Liandrin surprised at their knowledge of the Ways?), and on Toman Head Liandrin turns them over to the invaders, but Galad, Nynave and Min escape. (Galad causes this escape.) NOTE: Galad is alone, but Nynaeve and Elayne may be together. Nynaeve is angry enough to be able to channel, but she is foiled by the leashed channelers of the invaders. (?Does Liandrin take part in this? Some small confrontation between Liandrin and invaders?)
[This is part of Ba’alzamon’s plan. He intends to draw Rand to Toman Head and force him to fulfill one of the prophecies, namely proclaiming himself across the sky. Nyneave and Egwene, imprisoned and endangered, are meant to be keys to forcing him to use the Power. Foreshadowing in dream/not dream in pale land, when B speaks of what Rand (whom he calls Lews Therin, and Kinslayer) will do when those he loves and cares for are in danger and enslaved.] Galad takes up partisan activity. Has some contract with Bornhald, or at least with the Whitecloaks. He intends to rescue the women, especially Egwene and Elayne, for he does not know that Elayne and Nynave also escaped. Thinks he failed them. Small Galad POV for this?
NOTE1: considering that he sees Liandrin betray Elayne (if she goes) and Egwene, much less the others, he will certainly lose even the little trust of Aes Sedai that he has.
NOTE2: once he sees Rand in the sky, fighting as the Dragon, he will certainly see him as the worst danger possible. If Rand is the Dragon, he must be able to channel the Power and the evidence of it is certainly in his battle projected across the heavens. Such men are worse than merely dangerous; they must be killed or gentled (which last takes Aes Sedai, and he is not so hot on Aes Sedai, now.), therefore, Rand must be killed, in his view.
NOTE3: Note 1 and Note 2 make Galad a prime candidate for the Children of the Light.
THE GREAT HUNT
Continuity #3
Box 45, Folder 2, p.7
Galad had been sent off to Kairhein as a child to be raised at the court there.
Box 45, Folder 2, p.8
Both Elayne and Gawyn have dichotomous feelings about Galad. He is their brother (half, sure, but they have grown up with him), but he is strange. He believes in doing what is right, and often does not seem to care who gets hurt by it. He professes to have no jealousy that he will not become the First Prince etc, and indeed has never showed any. He even saved Gawyn’s life despite the fact that Gawyn’s death would have made him next in line for that position.
But he has always seemed very conscious of differences between them, that they will be Queen and First Prince, although they have tried to make him feel there were no differences. He is always too protective toward them, and always tries to get them to do the right thing, to behave as they should, which means he has often been a spoilsport as they grew up. His view of good and right is absolute, untempered by mercy or humor.
Continuity #3a
Box 45, Folder 1, p.6
NOTE: Galad did not, at first, intend to come to Tar Valon. Perhaps he felt that taking Warder training would seem as if he were attempting to challenge Gawyn’s place. It was his encounter with Rand in the garden that made him ask to go along, Elayne, as he sees it, needs someone to look after her.
INDIVIDUALS
Box 46, Folder 1, p.22
Mat will leave Tar Valon (after making an enemy of Galad). He will end up in the Aiel Waste with Rand.

Gawyn’s death. Galad is present. Galad promises to protect Egwene (and child?) Gawyn either tells him that Rand is his half-brother or starts him on the way of knowing or confirms something learned earlier. This comes after Gawyn married Egwene, and she is pregnant

Galad’s emotional connections to various women. He flirted with Nynaeve, and believed himself in love with Egwene, but once he learns she has become not only Aes Sedai but the rebel Amyrlin, the impossibility of it hits him. It may not be for quite some time that he does Berelain, maybe not until near the very end of it all, but that is when he is struck head over heels, and so is she.

Note
Regarding the Karaethon Cycle line; "5 ride forth, and 4 return." I know this is generally accepted as being Rand's group. Is there any indication that this is confirmed? There seem to be a few points in the books that appear to indicate that Liandrin, Nynaeve, Egwene, Elayne, and Min could be the 5 referenced in the prophecy and I was curious if there are any notes on this.
Hello, anon!
I am sorry that I don't have any useful information on this. Such topic hasn't been revealed publicly from the notes so far.
I hear this theory for first time. Nice catch!

Birgitte – Untitled
HEROES BOUND TO THE WHEEL OF TIME:
[…] One thing Birgitte has lost from Tel’aran’rhiod is the ability to recognize a hero bound to the Wheel. It is possible that there are heroes bound who have been spunt out into the world, but she would not know them if they were right in front of her. There may be other heroes bound to the Wheel who have been born besides Rand al’Thor (and Gaidal Cain, of course, who is somewhere as an infant or small boy). They did not congregate (CHECK!)
Box 20 Folder 2, p.3
THE WHEEL OF TIME – OUTLINE/BOOK ONE
[…] Weilders of Power discovered the existence of other worlds, other universes. In order to exchange knowledge they attempted contact with those worlds, but for years all such failed. Then they succeeded beyond their wildest dreams and darkest nightmares. They not {only} made contact, and shared knowledge, but much of the knowledge they received seemed obscure and impossible to use. They were told of a land of peace and plenty, like their own, but too late they discovered the truth. That other world was dying, blighted by the evil uses to which power had been put, corrupted to the point where even powers could sustain life only in the bleakest terms, Worse, the knowledge they had given enabled the lords of that other world to break into the world of our story, (SHOULD THESE HAVE SOURCE MORE EVIL THAN MERELY LORDS???)
The greatest and most vicious of those lords was Sa’khan. The armies that followed him came to be known as the Forsaken, men, half-men and not-men twisted and without souls (GET A GOOD NAME FOR SA’KHAN’S*LEIUTENANTS)* A war of power ensued, blasting the eart. A man named* __________,* called the Dragon, was the leader of humankind in the war {…}

HUNT CONTINUITY 3
THE GREAT HUNT
As they are leaving, Barthanes draws Rand aside, says he has a message for Rand, that he was told how to recognize him, by looks and sword. “I will blow the Horn, and the world will be finally mine. Follow me to Toman Head if you dare.” Rand denies knowing what he is talking about. Barthanes seems uneasy about Fain, whom he does not name.
Remember Fain’s “new” abilities, including inducing waking nightmares and setting traps like the “loop” that nearly caught Rand.
(Note. In his early notes while writing the Great Hunt Robert Jordan said that the trap was set by Lanfear to stimulate Rand to channel. It seems he changed his mind later.)
DISCARDED PLOTS
People who will go over to Sha’tan or be taken by him: Galad, Nynaeve.”
Egwene ends up with Galad and Galad promises to dying Gawyn to take care of his baby as Egwene is also pregnant.

RJ’s notes Part 74 by Matt Hatch
The notes on Moiraine!
BOX 20, Folder 2, pp. 13-14
Notes from the White Goddes for us in the Wheel of Time
Moiraine: the woman wielder of power who searches out Rhys al’Thor. (Moraine Sidhe)
BOX 24, Folder 1, p.15
Notes on the White Goddes
If Moiraine is at some point (not in the first book) made into a crone by the powers of Sha’tan, she could fit into the maiden-moter-hag trio.
BOX 24, Folder 1, p p.1-2
Nynaeve contrives to have Moiraine imprisoned below ground, apparently slain. She is actually trapped halfway between life and death.
The truth of the origins of the Aiel is revealed, creating a rift in the Aiel. Some try to go back to the ancient ways, believing this must be done. Others are furious, raging against Rand as a false leader and traitor.
Lan’s love for Nynaeve makes him break from Moiraine and brings him into conflict with Rand, into open opposition. (??) He will flee to become a hermit, though he wil return for the final battle (??)
Having finally conquered and bound Shai’tan, Rand thinks to disappear, faking his own death. Moiraine, Elayne, Equene, and others of his closest friends are among those who are not fooled and will not let him go alone.
BOX 24, Folder 1, p.1
Notes on course of books
All of this is merely possibility
Book Two Rand continues at first to deny being the Dragon. He also attempts to refrain from using the Power. Through a series of adventures, however, he is drawn once more into the conflict against Sha’tan. It is revealed that the attempt against the Eye of the World had been made to draw out the Dragon Reborn, to force him to reveal himself before he knew how to wield Power. Again Rand is victorious against the forces of evil, though again the price is high. Nyneve disappears in a fashion that makes it certain she has been slain. Rand still does not believe that he is the Dragon Reborn, but he becomes convinced that it is necessary for him to play the part to the best of his ability. Grimly he return to follow Moiraine’s way. He finds her waiting on the dock, knowing that he is coming.
BOX 24, Folder 1, pp.1
Random notes on the course of the Wheel of Time
(??) Moiraine will ascend to the Amyrlin Seat. (??)
Nyneve will at some point after Moiraine takes the Amyrlin Seat seemingly slay Moiraine, or cause Moiraine’s death. This should involve something about a cave. In fact, Moiraine will be trapped halfway between life and death. She will eventually be able to return to the world of men, or be brought back. Whether this is an actual rebirth, or whether she returns in some fashion other than as a living, breathing human is yet to be decided.
Unknown (Orig. BOX 28, Folder 1) p.6
Book one: the Eye of the World
Because of the danger Moiraine gets Lan to teach the young men something of defending themselves. Rand is one of those who shows a great deal of natural ability, but though he has helped fight off wolves attacking Tam’s sheep (he has twice killed a wolf with his bow and driven off many others) the idea of actually striking a person with a weapon makes him a little ill. Striking the beast-men is something else again, and he, as well as most of the other village boys, become enamoured of the idea of becoming Warders like Lan. Moiraine not only encourages them, she is ready to bond all of them on the spot. Only angry protests from Lan and Nyneve stop her.
BOX 45, Folder 1, p.2
The Great Hunt
WHERE TO PUT IN?: Moiraine has/develops a theory about why there are so few suitable girls found for training. Three thousand years of hunting men who could channel (hunting in various intensity depending on the period of history), they are culling the herd, so to speak, cutting out the breeding stock and destroying it.
Remember to use the flower-type analogy (unfolding, etc.) when Moiraine reaches out for the Power in her POV.
Nynaeve would wonder about Moiraine’s disappearance, about that is happening with Rand and the others, and also (probably reluctantly) about Lan (ring). She would be disconcerted that events have gotten so far out of the control. Rand/others off the Light alone knows where. Nothing she can do to help them. She and Egwene among so many Aes Sedai. Blames it all on Moiraine, though part of her knows that Rand’s plight, at least, is not entirely Moiraine’s fault.
(NOTE: Moiraine’s original plan, now in abeyance if not entirely abandoned, was to put Min close to Rand as the Dragon Reborn to help him by “reading” people with whom he had to deal.)
Nynaeve Unconsciously, a good part of her anger at Moiraine is as much for her having Lan as for what Nynaeve perceives as the harm she has done Rand, Mat and Perrin.
BOX 45, Folder 1, p.8
The Great Hunt
Thom returns. Reluctantly to talk to/with Rand. Affectionate with girl? ?Disgusted comment about new-fangled players? Send the girl off. Though she wants to be a gleeman, he thinks that life is not for a woman. Training her to be a bard, since women bards are not unheard of. Finally wants to know if Rand still with that Aes Sedai, Moiraine. Thom finds Moiraine a fine figure of a woman, but of course, Aes Sedai are not be trusted in his view.
?Somewhere, talk about Thom’s relationship with Morgase?
Thom says Myddraal not interested in him; went after Rand and Mat a soon as it could get loose from Thom. Thom went on as far as Caemlyn, discovered from Master Gill that they had hooked up with Moiraine again and taken off, and so decided he was out of it.
BOX 45, Folder 2
TDR notes on individuals
Moiraine: Her goal is to bring the Dragon Reborn to his full power, to battle the Dark One in the Last Battle, and she is willing to sweep aside just about anything else to achieve this. She is aware, however, that sweeping aside too much can be as bad as defeat.
Unknown (BOX 28, Folder 1), p.29
Individuals
Rand chomps at the bit; he doesn’t want to be the Dragon Reborn, wants nothing less than to go down out of the mountains and set himself up to lead an army in a war, yet because he wants not to, and because he sees it as his duty, he pushes himself to do it. Moiraine manages again and again to turn him from it with talk of plans; if he rides out without proper plans, he will invite death and defeat, and worse, the eventual victory of the Dark One. Lan spits out the planning, but Rand grows ever more impatient.
(Moiraine’s real plan with respect to Rand is no plan. He is ta’veren, shaper of the Pattern yet woven to a tighter line in the Pattern than other men. The Pattern itself will force him into action. SURELY SHE MUST HAVE SOME PLAN BEYOND THIS.)
BOX 44, Folder 2
AMOL Outline
The confrontation takes place just short of the Blight below Tarwin’s Gap, and for a time it seems the Last Battle might be fought there between these two sides. A combination of things stop this from happening: Rand’s ta’veren effect, the desperation of the Borderland rulers who are ready to try anything, and the report by Seanchan scouts on raken that hordes of Trollocs are moving against them from every direction. But the tipping point is certainly Moiraines words in support of Rand. Her words break the alliance that had risen up against Rand, and the “force of good become totally united against the force of the Dark One.
BOX 57, Folder 1
Aes Sedai, Accpeted, and Novices
Damodred, Moiraine: 13 (1),  ~700, reduced to 66/54, 250-260 …………… “She saw that a man she did not recognize (Moridin) came to see her in her captivity and said she was the wrong one, it must be the other.” “(The Eelfinn) have been rummaging through her experiences, making her relive them in the form of dreams that seem like real life, raping her mind in effect. The reinforcement, plus the things done in those particular dreams, have increased that fear to the point where she shivers thinking of him and her teeth might chatter if she saw him in the flesh.

RJ’s notes Part 73 by Matt Hatch
Box 55, Page 46
Tear
Generally have darker skins than any others except the Sea Folk, though it can vary. It is dark enough to generally be remarked, like old roots – can be black, also.
Box 58
Ghealdan
Physically, Ghealdanin are fairly indistinguishable from Andorans or northern Altarans. Or for that matter, from Amadicians, really, though Amadicians are generally a little darker. Average heiht for men: 5’9’’ – 5’10’’. Average height for women: 5’3 – 5’4’’. Dark eyes are most common, but blue eyes are seen often enough not to cause special comment. They just aren’t common. Darker hair is most common; pale hair is fairly rare, blonde rarer than red, which usually is darker red.
Box 55
Tarabon
Average height for men is about 5’9’’ ½ and for women about 5’3’’ ½ . Thus they are a little shorter on average than Andorans. Dark hair and eyes are most common, but blonde hair is not unknown, though often coming with brown eyes. Blue eyes are fairly uncommon. In general, they are darker complected than Amadicians, though not as dark as the general run of Tairens, sometimes with an olive complexion. The combination of blonde hair and brown eyes is usually combined with a fairer complection, though.
Box 58
Amadicia
The average Amadician man is about 5’9’’ tall, the average Amadician woman is 5’3’’ tall. They run to dark eyes and hair. Blue, gray, or green eyes are pretty much unknown, as is red or blonde hair. They are not as dark-complected as Tairens or even southern Altarans, by and large, but generally darker than Andorans, much less Cairhienin.

RJ’s notes Part 72 by Matt Hatch
EP. 1 ROBERT JORDAN’S WHEEL OF TIME NOTES: Writing The Dragon Reborn
The Dragon Reborn
Plots
They spread out, these small parties [Rand and Mat alone, then Rand and Mat together, then Perrin and Loial alone Egwene and Nynaeve (?and Elayne?)] Each seeing small, simple, ordinary life as well as the grand.
Egwene and Nyneave set by the Amyrlin Seat to track down any of the Black Ajah left in Tar Valon. Or maybe just to track down the Black Ajah anywhere? Maybe limited to Liandrin, and possible those who went with her? Amyrlin would try to leave Elayne out of this, but I suspect Elayne would want in anyway, especially once she discovered Liandrin, in particular, was the quarry. Elaida woud certainly meddle in this especially if Elayne manages to get involved. They will have some success and some failure in this. With perhaps a victory of some significant degree.
Thom Merillin perhaps meets Mat in Tar Valon. [What is Thom doing there?] […] Maybe looking for Moiraine? Not likely to admit, if he is. […] Maybe Thom and Mat travel together until they are separated. Thereafter, Thom joins up with Perrin (?), who has now separated from Loial, while Mat joins up with Rand.
Loial finds a stedding overrun, with all the Ogier killed. He travels via the Ways to carry Word/Warning. Did young Ogier woman who gave him a flower die, there or elsewhere? If so, how did she come there, and why?
Mat will leave Tar Valon (after making an enemy of Galad). He will end up in the Aiel Waste with Rand.
Rand and Mat: Meet where? When? How?
Mat meets a girl. Here, or later??
His luck is a side effect from the dagger.
Robert Jordan had plans to connect Berelaine with Mat as alternative.
Rand goes to the Aiel Waste, to the city in the middle of the Waste, where he learns the origins of the Aiel. Prior of this, we must see the Aiel fight, I think.
Rand goes to Tear? The Stone of Tear, and Calandor, the Sword That Cannot Be Touched.
Something must set Rand on this trip. What? Does he sneak away? If not, he will have plenty of argument/manipulation from Moiraine.
Does Rand travel by means of the Ways, or Portal Stones? Is his control of the Power good enough? Is he foolish/desperate enough?
NOTE: Whatever Rand has set out after, how is it that he ends up in the city in the Waste?
Sets out from the Mountains of Mist. If he is intent on the Sword That Cannot be Touched, how does he intend to fetch it alone? Perhaps he takes Shienarans with him? Or perhaps some sneak after? Ragan and Masema?
NOTE: There are worlds, dream worlds, that can be reached by dreams that are as real as those reached by the Portal Stones?
It is possible that what happened to Mat and Perrin when Ba’alzamon invaded their dream broke some sort of barrier for them. Maybe they are now able to enter dreams that are not dreams themselves, though certainly not under conscious control at first, if ever. This would have nothing to do with the One Power, though both would be afraid that it did.
Aludra and her dragon were part of the notes before writing the Dragon Reborn.
While Aviendha, Faile, Logain and Gaul are missing in that part of the notes.
Aram and his motivation to leave the Tinkers are mentioned in the notes.
Else Grinwell is mentioned as doing a poor job of being novice.
Cairhien was at first like Victorian England and Imperial Germany.
Tear was at first like Imperial Russia.
NOTE: Perhaps Perrin can track Rand partly by his effect on others. He is so strongly ta’veren that he alters peoples lives just by being near them.
Mat would loose his left eye probably as part of a bargain and he would gain the ashandarei (not by name, just described).
The flow of Callandor is not in the early notes.
After finishing the Dragon Reborn Robert Jordan thought he would need three more books to complete the story.
Egwene was going to end up with Galad after Gawyn dies and he will raise the Gawyn’s baby.
In the notes for the Dragon Reborn we don’t have any clue what is the Moiraine’s plan for Rand and whether she has plan in the first place. In the very early notes Moiraine was going to be Amyrlin.
Galad is considered to be king of Cairhien.
Robert Jordan knew in advance that Rand won’t be the POV character through most of the book. He wanted Rand to be going through his mental stuff off-screen.
At some point in these notes Robert Jordan did write down that he thought that Lanfear was at least as strong in the One Power as Ishamael and then almost made possibly as strong as Lews Therin. He made Lews Therin stronger than Ishamael. And this is not how the charts later turned on.
Nothing about the eyes and ears spying network of Moiraine.

RJ’s notes Part 71 by Linda Taglieri
SOURCE
AIEL
The ability to channel is taken by all Aiel as a sign that the women is fated to be a Wise One. Therefore even if she has other failings that make her unsuitable, she is made an apprentice, even if her apprenticeship lasts a very, very long time.
The Wise Ones’ teaching of Aviendha where others could see was unusual, done in large part because the Wise Ones know she is potentially very strong, that they needed to train her. Also, although they did not know what she had seen in the rings ter'angreal in Rhuidean (at least at first), they could already see a relationship developing with Rand which they might be able to make use of but which would decrease the time available to give her the very necessary training in private.
Since Wise Ones don’t sequester themselves from regular society, and are expected to have children, and even male channellers often father children before they discover they can channel, the Aiel population has a higher percentage of potential channellers (1.5%) compared to the mainland population (0.5%).
WINDFINFERS
As with Aes Sedai, Windfinders are trained through a three-phase apprenticeship program. Most trainees are identified early, because they start channelling or ask to be tested. The latter are made to ask three times before being accepted.
Occasionally a woman who is older and has the ability to learn will begin fumbling her way to the ability, whether consciously or unconsciously. When this happens, it is believed that the woman has been chosen out to be a Windfinder (“chosen by wind and current”), and, unlike those who are made to ask three times, she is made an apprentice willy-nilly. There are relatively few such among the Sea Folk, but the fact of it is that even a Wavemistress or Mistress of the Ships who began to manifest the ability would be forced to give up her earrings and nose ring and become a common deckhand again to begin training as a Windfinder.
‘In the first part other training, the apprentice must serve with the other deckhands while taking her training with the Windfinder. This is analogous to the novice period in the White Tower. This portion other training usually involves service on at least three ships, at least one year on each though often longer. In the next portion of her training, she is more of a personal apprentice to the Windfinder of the ship she is serving on. This training also normally encompasses service on at least three ships, and corresponds to being an Accepted.
Even after an apprentice is considered qualified to become a Windfinder, she seldom gets the chance immediately since there must be a position open for her. She remains an apprentice, in a position analogous in some ways to an Accepted close to being tested for the shawl. This period also frequently covers service on several ships.”
AMAYAR
There has never been an Amayar Aes Sedai. Windfinders locate those girls born with the spark and train them, though not in Weaving the Winds. These women then serve much the same function as Wisdoms and the like do on the mainland, although each is pledged to give certain services to the Windfinders and to come when called. This calling is almost always a made-up affair. The Windfinders have no use for these women, as they see it, but by their customs there has to be some sort of exchange or else they have lessened the other person. These Amayar women are quite assiduous about performing the services and answering the calls because their culture also requires “repayment” for gifts.
While the Amayar women who can channel are quite capable of finding girls on their own, they do not; or rather, what they do is either lead the girls to the Windfinders or the Windfinders to the girls. This is a part of their tradition, and the Amayar are strongly held by tradition. Their training of the girls after the Windfinders are finished with them is not known even to the Windfinders, but there is such training.
The Amayar are, of course, aware of the slow aging and long lives of women who can channel. It is something that simply is, though.
SHARA
To maximise their numbers Ayyad only mate with other Ayyad, with the records the Ayyad keep of blood lines akin to the records of horse-breeders. Sons are raised communally, rather than by their mothers, as daughters are. (In fact, sons are never referred to as sons among the Ayyad; they are only referred to as “the male.”)
No one with Ayyad tattoos can marry one without:
Sex between Ayyad/non-Ayyad is punishable by death for the latter, and for the former if the Ayyad forced it; any resulting child is killed by exposure.
If a non-Ayyad person is found to be able to channel, they are presumed to be the result of a union between one of their ancestors and an Ayyad; they are seized, tattooed, and confined to an Ayyad village for the rest of their lives.
Male channellers are enslaved as breeding stock only and are uneducated. They are confined to the village until they are 16 and then are hooded and transported inside a closed wagon to a distant village, thus never even seeing anything outside the villages. There they breed with women who wish children. When males reach 21, or sooner if they show signs of channeling, they are killed and cremated.
