They need to do that thing where actual professionals in certain fields have seminars for writers but with letting historical fiction writers faff about with firearms you can't get the proper experience with through any kind of legal modern shooting. god I just can't get into this scene does anyone have a paper cartridge I can try ripping open with my teeth

Vibes for Softly Tortured Characters
For the ones who make you want to wrap them in a blanket and also scream “JUST TALK TO SOMEONE.”
Always looks like they didn’t sleep (because they didn’t)
Talks like they’re about to say something else, but never does
Constantly touches their sleeves/jewelry/lip, like if they’re not holding something, they’ll fall apart
Laughs too easily, but it never quite reaches their eyes
Over-apologizes for things no one noticed
Craves affection but flinches when they get it
Body language = trying to take up as little space as possible
Flashes of unexpected rage, like pressure finally cracking glass
Always says “I’m fine” in a tone that screams “Please ask again”
Cries alone, then wipes their face like it’s a secret
Feels safest in chaos because stillness feels like waiting for pain
Thinks being loved means being a burden
Cannot remember the last time they were truly, fully relaxed
Keeps people at arm’s length, but is the first to drop everything if someone else needs help
Treats their own joy like it's a luxury they didn’t earn

Questions Your Character Is Too Afraid to Ask
(But desperately needs the answer to) Because these are the thoughts they won’t say out loud, but they shape everything they do.
If I stopped trying, would anyone notice?
Do they actually like me, or do I just make their life easier?
Am I hard to love?
What would they say about me if I left the room?
Would they stay if they saw the real me?
What if I’m only good at pretending to be good?
Was it actually love, or just obligation?
What happens if I fail again? What’s left of me then?
How long until they get tired of me?
What if I deserve the things I’m afraid of?
Am I healing or just hiding better?
Why do I feel more myself when I’m alone?
Do I want to be forgiven or just forget?
What if I never become the person they believe I am?
Am I still angry, or just numb?
Why can’t I let go of them, even after everything?
If they hurt me, and I stayed, did I hurt myself more?
Am I building a future, or just distracting myself from the past?
Is this what I want, or just what I’ve been told to want?
What if I was never meant to survive this, but I did anyway? Now what?

Moral Dilemmas That Will Mess Up Your Character
» They witness a crime but helping the victim means exposing a secret that could ruin someone they love.
» They could save someone’s life… but only by hurting someone else.
» They’re offered everything they’ve ever wanted, by the worst person they know.
» They have to lie to protect someone, but the lie costs someone else dearly.
» They can bring justice, but only by breaking a promise.
» They’re given power, but to keep it, they have to become what they hate.
» They have the chance to take revenge, and it would be so easy. So satisfying.
» They’re the only one who knows the truth, but telling it would destroy someone’s faith.
» They could protect the many, by sacrificing the one. And the one matters to them.
» They promised not to get involved, but walking away would haunt them forever.
» They were wrong and admitting it now will shatter their credibility.
» They’re asked to forgive, and they know the person doesn’t deserve it.
» They have to pick a side, but both sides are flawed. Both will cost them something.
» They want to help, but they’re not sure it’s their place.
» They said they’d never become their parent and now they’re staring in the mirror, wondering if they already have.
» They catch their friend doing something terrible, but they owe them everything.
» They can’t tell if they’re protecting someone, or controlling them.
» They get what they want, but someone else suffers for it.
» They promised to keep a secret, but now someone innocent is getting hurt.
» They fall in love and realize it compromises everything they believe in.

I hate that thing some people do where it's like. "I left my wallet on the table to see if you'd say anything" or "I wanted to see if you'd wash the car if I stopped doing it"
Cause like
I dont know about anyone else
But I am perpetually hovering three inches above the strong subconscious belief that everyone knows what they're doing at all times except me, so if you change your normal patterns and I notice, then I will assume it is an intentional choice with a thought-out plan behind it and I will avoid interfering
And if I don't notice, because I won't, because why would I, because not much bothers me and if you don't say anything to indicate you are bothered then how would I KNOW

I told Miyazaki I love the “gratuitous motion” in his films; instead of every movement being dictated by the story, sometimes people will just sit for a moment, or they will sigh, or look in a running stream, or do something extra, not to advance the story but only to give the sense of time and place and who they are.
“We have a word for that in Japanese,” he said. “It’s called ma. Emptiness. It’s there intentionally.”
Is that like the “pillow words” that separate phrases in Japanese poetry?
“I don’t think it’s like the pillow word.” He clapped his hands three or four times. “The time in between my clapping is ma. If you just have non-stop action with no breathing space at all, it’s just busyness, But if you take a moment, then the tension building in the film can grow into a wider dimension. If you just have constant tension at 80 degrees all the time you just get numb.”
Which helps explain why Miyazaki’s films are more absorbing and involving than the frantic cheerful action in a lot of American animation. I asked him to explain that a little more.
“The people who make the movies are scared of silence, so they want to paper and plaster it over,” he said. “They’re worried that the audience will get bored. They might go up and get some popcorn.
But just because it’s 80 percent intense all the time doesn’t mean the kids are going to bless you with their concentration. What really matters is the underlying emotions–that you never let go of those.
— Roger Ebert in conversation with Hiyao Miyazaki

It’s a new year so here’s a start of the year reminder.
badjokesbyjeff made racist jokes and also called all Palestine gfms a scam. Additionally, the jokes are often just stolen from other places without any credit/reference to the source material. The posts this account made have been deleted, but can be found if you look around web archive. No apology has ever been given and posts resumed after some time had passed. Also harassed el-shab-hussein in the since deleted posts.
writing-prompt-s also called all Palestine gfms a scam and made several “prompts” based around the claim such as “your running a scam ring that’s been found out by scam busters” (presumably a jab at the people who bust scams?). Regardless, this account said 90s-ghost wasn’t legitimate because “anyone can backdate posts” even though there are plenty of ways to distinguish a blogs age outside of post dates. Additionally, most of the prompts are rarely original and often are just taken from other websites without proper credits. Made an ‘apology’ after deleting the posts; Deleted the apology later making the legitimacy of its claims uncertain. Even if the account is to be retired, the apology should have been left up for future reference. (Though all it really said was the admin hadn’t ran the blog in years and mods were the ones who did all that and the admin didn’t want political content on the blog.)
This is just a reminder, don’t go harassing these blogs just because of this post. Most people forgot this happened and I want people to remember it. Not every Palestine gfm is a scam; Most are ran by family members or good friends who can be trusted. You can find many posts about the process by Palestinian users or those who work to help them.

Emotions are like water because it's just a reflection of what you put into it, isn't it?
Blue because it's painted that way, designed to be beautiful with chlorine and nets and regular upkeep, to make it safe and even tempting. Like someone who's long been in therapy because they know what could happen if they didnt go, what they could be....
Murky because there are so many things floating in it to hide what might be lurking, maybe even to hide what isn't there; less tempting, less safe, maybe even scary for it mystery, for its possibilities. Like someone with unhealed wounds behind them.
Dirty because it's been left to fester with nothing and nobody to take care of it, all sorts of things growing within the stagnant water, things from long ago that have gotten out of hand, nee things overwhelming; dangerous, deadly, but only if you get to close. Like someone who's wounds have been constant and emotions untamed.
Then there is the natural clarity of some rivers, they are not carefully upkept with deadly chemicals, but nurtured by its longtime symbiotic relationships with flora and fauna. Like someone lucky enough to have loved ones who've taught them what health looks like, that it often looks like relying on others, to remind them who they are.
And often what's lost, what cant swim, falls to the bottom of all of these. It's how the water is cared for that tells us how to handle what it finds; what rots, what's devoured, what's found
...what falls from the sky even. A healthy rain or one that burns?
And even that speaks to wider community care doesn't it?
Are there running, healthy streams or constant rain? A lake you're weary to enter?
Why?
