Visiting Mount Rainier National Park, some visitors have noticed that something is missing.
It’s missing in the parking lots, the picnic areas, the trailheads, and campgrounds. It’s even missing around the visitor centers and inns. A few folks have noticed it missing along the roadsides.
Have you guessed what it is?
Litter.
Quite a few folks have remarked on how little trash they see lying on the ground in the park. In large part, that’s due to the tireless employees of our general maintenance shop. These staff members work every day to keep Mount Rainier clean. The bathrooms, campgrounds, and roadsides all receive attention from these rangers, and their biggest tool in this fight against litter are the recycle and trash cans you see around the park.
Please help us keep Mount Rainier beautiful. Hold on to your recyclable items or trash until you get to Longmire or Paradise (or Sunrise or any other developed area). Putting these items in their appropriate receptacle help us provide you a park free of trash. Thanks. ~ams

I want a home mostly just to welcome people into it. There will be bowls of candy for guests, and the cookie jar is full. I’ll always say “I was just about to make a coffee/tea/cocoa, would you like one?” when somebody walks in. There’s lemonade and iced tea made fresh on hot days. Once it hits That Hour and they start saying they really should be going, I’ll remind them that the futon is always open, and I’m making cinnamon rolls tomorrow. There’s champagne and sparkling juice hidden on a high shelf just in case somebody announces their engagement or their pregnancy or their new job while they’re here. There is an extra chair in the living room, at the table, and on the deck, and it’s for you. I want to be able to say “if you’re ever in trouble, come to me.”
