Diamantina Arcoiris

Yesterday I hanged out with a friend and she told me about an amazing woman and now I’m gonna to talk about her. 

This is Diamantina Arcoiris, she’s a colombian fashion designer, she decided to include in fashion world marginalized people who live in Santa Fe neighborhood, one of the most criminal in Bogotá, people who are in drug addiction, prostitution, those who inhabit the streets, etc. Diamantina began giving people opportunities to make embroidery haute couture fabrics, which she uses in her designs. Then, she asked that people to model those clothes in front of many people and potential buyers.

I watched a little kind of “documentary” about that and I have to say that her work is just admirable, I think that I learned a lot of thing watching those 12 minutos about haute couture

PULP FICTION

This movie is about many stories of many people that are intertwined along the movie, I got the meaning of the movie when it finished. At the beginning, I didn’t understand ANYTHING about it, and I got to feel a little dumb.

I didn´t know too much about this kind of movies and much less about Quentin Tarantino, until a special friend talked me about that thing and I really loved that. In these days I have been reading about Tarantino and whatching more of his movies, they’re so cool.

The first time I met the sea was in august 2014. My family and I went to San Andres Island and we stayed there for a few days, but these days were the coolest ever. Also that was my first time flying in a plane, I was too a excited. We bought a lot of things, met many people and I knew an amazing place. I’d like to go again someday.

EL GRIPO

In 2015 my best friend introduced me to one of her friends, her name is Geral. The same day that we met, we decided to create a whatsapp group and that's when all started. Weeks later, Geral added her friends and Tatis and I added ours and the group ended being even better. Many people have gone through that group and for our lives but only 9 people we have stayed. When we talk or when I am with them, I feel like “I really belong here”.

It's been almost 5 years and we still being friends, I really love all of them, they’re like my family.

DCC

When I was 13 years old, I was part of Colombian Civil Defense (or whatever it’s called in English). I really loved be part of it because I learned a lot about many subjects. For example, I learned first aid, about earthquake evacuation, to make knots, etc.  I met many people and made some friends. On sundays, we all went to hiking in mountains and had lunch in there. Sometimes we bathed in a creek.  I liked spend all my weekends with them!

ODAAT

This tv series is about a typical cuban family that lives in the United States. This family is made up of a single mother (Penelope), her two kids (Elena and Alex) and their grandma (Lydia). Penelope is a nurse and also army veteran.

This series is too funny and also, as they’re hispanic, important topics such as racism and xenophobia are touched amid jokes and humor that the series handles.

As a fact: The girl who plays Elena, her name is Isabella Gomez and she’s colombian.

LA CASA DE LAS FLORES

This is a comedy and drama series, it’s about a rich mexican family that lives on appearances. They are owners of a famous florist.  One day, in an important event at the florist, they found a woman dead inside, killed by suicide. Suddenly, De La Mora family found out that Ernesto had a lover and that dead woman was her :oooo This The series addresses issues such as bisexuality, transsexuality, infidelity and drug addiction, that’s why it is one of my favorite. By the way, the second season is out now since yesterday.

IYF

IYF (International Youth Fellowship) is a world organization that trains young people as leaders.  I ended up with that organization because they were offering hangul classes and I had nothing else to do, so I decided go to those classes.  It was really cool, although I didn’t learn much about korean language, however I learned its culture and I knew a lot of nice people (foreign and colombian) who still being my friends now. Every saturday we met at pastor’s house (even I don’t believe in God or any religion, I really liked spend my day with them) and we ate korean food and talked about any thing.  After, the pastor began to obligate us to read the bible and learn about his religion and I disagreed with that so I decided to leave them and I don’t went anymore. It was hard but I didn’t feel well with that situation.

THE BEATLES

In december 2013 I met a girl called “Julieta”, she studied in my school but she was a grade higher than me and she was a little older than me too. We started to talk about famous rock bands like Guns N’ Roses and The Beatles. Especially The Beatles, they were her favorite people in the world. I had heard The Beatles before, but thanks to her I became a big fan. Julieta was a Beatlemaniac and I ended up being one of them too. I tried to show people more about The Beatles but most said their songs were sleepy. My favorite beatle always has been Paul.

Well, time later I found out that “Julieta” wasn’t called “Julieta”, I was living deceived all that time xd her real name was only “Juli” or something like that, but no JULIETA ¬.¬

Alycia Debnam-Carey

She’s my favorite actress of all times. I saw her for first time in The100, acting as Lexa. Lexa died in the 3rd season :( it was sad bc I wanted that she and Clarke continue their love story but it only lasted like three episodes:( I was angry with the producers and screenwriters when Lexa died, but after a while I found out that Alycia had decided to quit her job. So at that time I was not only angry, but also very confused with that situation. It was like “ALYCIA, HOW WILL YOU LEAVE YOUR JOB????” Then, I read the full story and stopped being angry and confused bc she had accepted another job offer at Fear The Walking Dead and she was going to be the main actress (The Walking Dead is another of my fav series, so I will talk about it the next time) so I got very happy and satisfied with that.

THE 100

This is my favorite series #1, it’s very interesting because it’s about post-apocalyptic world. I loved that since the first time I watched it.  My love for The100 was born by female empowerment that this tv series is about.  I have 4 favorite characteres: Raven, Lexa, Clarke and Octavia.

Raven Reyes: she is a mechanic, she´s the smartest of The Arca 

Lexa: “heda” or “Leksa kom Trikru”. She is the commander of the 12 clans.

Clarke Griffin: “wanheda”. She is the protagonist and the leader of the 100. Clarke always screwes up, but always solves it. 

Octavia Blake: She is the character that has had more changes throughout the series, before she was a shy and insecure girl but now she’s brave and bold.

Today I went to see a play, I LOVE THINGS LIKE THAT! I like to apreciate people's talent and it’s amazing how people can transmit emotions. I've always liked theater, I have a frustrated dream with that, I think soooo, but I’m bad at plays since EVER. Once I had to act in one of them and I played the stellar role of a rock.

On august 7 in 2017, I knew to my internet best friend. Her name is Valentina too, like me, but I call her “Tina” and she calls me “Valen” and all that together is “Valen-Tina”. She lives in Neiva, Huila, we’re so close but at the same time so far. She is younger than me, she’s 16 but sometimes I feel like she’s older bc her mind is awesome, she always give me wise advice. She studies Civil Engineering at USCO, btw she won a scholarship and I’m too proud of her.

Tina is my favorite person in the whole world, I admire her more and more.

A few years ago, in 2015, I really hated english, I didn’t understand anything and I didn’t want to either. But, in that same year, I discovered my favorite girl group called Fifth Harmony. Two of the five members could speak spanish, but the others three don’t, so the most part of time, they had to spoke english. In that moment and for that reason, I realized that I had to learn english because I wanted to understand their songs, interviews, etc. Then, I told myself “ok, Valentina, you need to speak english, you don’t have an option” and I began to study on my own, day by day. One day, Camila (my fav member) put something on Twitter and I GOT IT, I felt sooo useful, smart, matchless, diva, goddess (just kidding) but yeah, I felt too good with myself.  And here I am, loving english with every piece of my cold heart.

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK

Honestly, I started to watch OITNB by Piper and Alex and the other lgbt plot. Then, I fell in love with the other characteres and EVERYTHING about them, I don’t know why but it happened. I liked the way that this series tells the story of each one of the girls, all of them had different lifestyles, some of them lived in a different country, with different people... but, for some reason, all of them ended up in the same place: prision.  Also, it show immigrant stories, stories of latin people who wanted to reach the “American Dream”, who left their families in their native countries to have a better life, with more oportunities.  I could learn about many subjects like “how is life of immigrants in United States” “how is life in the prision” “how is life of black people and latin people in a prision in United States”

S I R E N

Yesterday I started to watch another tv series and now I’m obsessed. I only saw the first episode, but that’s enough to know that it’s an amazing show.  What can I say? Well, it’s about sirens xd I haven’t too much to say right now, but I’m gonna tell what happened on the first ep. A guy found a disoriented, naked and scared woman on the road while he was driving, then he got her into the car and took her to his home. After, the girl escaped through a window and she starts to walk around Bristol Cove and wreak havoc on the small fishing village.

WALT WHITMAN

He was an American writer, poet, essayist, and journalist, was one of the most important american writers. Walt is considered the father of free verse. I recently discovered this writer thanks to my literary creation teacher and I liked his particular way of writing.  His works were controversial in his time, specially Leaves Of Grass,  which was described as obscene for its overt sensuality.

My favorite poetry is “Song Of Myself”, for me it’s a simply perfect work. In it, Whitman makes us feel and love everything related to nature, life, death and humanity. This makes the reader know himself through reflection and contact with nature and the world around him.  The deep description given to what seems daily life is incredible.

“I celebrate myself, and sing myself, And what I assume you shall assume, For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you. I loafe and invite my soul, I lean and loafe at my ease observing a spear of summer grass.
