Dandy’s world Moonflower story (this will be cross posted on ao3 when I’m done with it)
Sprout sighed as he had finally returned from the lower levels of the care center. He wasn’t sure how they had done it but most of the crew had survived, the only loss being Astro who was worse for wear, being the only one who was left without heals. He felt guilty for leaving the other toon struggling to survive but Astro had been persistent about not being healed unless necessary.
The elevator made a loud screech as it reached the top floor, slowly opening its doors and letting the group out. Dandy grinned from his spot in the elevator and waved to the toons leaving.
“See you all later! You all did great today!” The flower said with too much enthusiasm. Vee huffed and Astro made a slight groan. Rodger gave a glare at Dandy as he picked up Toodles and walked off. Sprout scratched the back of his neck and frowned. Cosmo frowned at Dandy then looked at Sprout. The smaller one smiled at him.
“I’ll go check up on the other toons and make sure they’re alright…do you think you could check on Astro?” Cosmo suggested, a slight smirk on his face. Sprout flushed at that and glared at Cosmo.
“Is this your way of trying to play matchmaker?” He questioned, crossing his arms. Cosmo snickered and gave a wink to the strawberry.
“Maybe, but I think he’d rather you treat him than me.” Cosmo hummed as he quickly ran off to help Shelly. Sprout would’ve replied but pouted instead when Cosmo ran off. He glanced at Astro and frowned. The moon was basically falling asleep while standing up. Sprout sighed and made his way over to him and gently tapped his shoulder.
“Astro-“ Sprout jumped a bit when the other jerked awake.
“Oh- sorry…I didn’t mean to scare you…” Astro muttered, rubbing his eyes, he couldn’t help but yawn as he turned to look at Sprout.
Sprout waved his hands and gave a nervous smile. “No no! I just wanted to ask if you wouldn’t mind me healing you?” He asked as looked at the taller. “We could go to your room and I can take a look at your wounds…” he offered, now feeling his face heat up at Astros silence.
Astro hummed after a beat of silence. He gave a tired smile and nodded. “Sure…I need to get out of this light right now…” he said softly as he grabbed Sprout's hand. “If it’s fine, then I’d like for us to be in my room.”
Sprout flushed brighter, squeezing Astros hand slightly and looking away. “Yep, that’s alright…you lead the way.” He said quietly. He made a slight gasp as Astro grinned and led him along to his room
Astro opened the door and turned on the dull lighting within his room. He sighed and let go of Sprout's hand and flopped himself onto his bed.
“Make yourself comfortable.” Astro muttered quietly as he slowly began to remove his blanket. Sprout shut the door behind him and walked over to Astro. He sat down next to him and set his bag with medical supplies to the side.
“Sorry we couldn’t heal you when needed…” Sprout muttered, taking out a cotton pad and rubbing alcohol. He then gently began to clean away the ichor that stained Astros arm. Astro made soft hisses as he felt pain from the alcohol. Sprout was focused though, making quick work of placing bandages onto the moon's 2 arms. He quickly finished and moved onto the other arms. Astro watched intently, an occasional wince and hiss there but he was rather quiet.
Astro couldn’t help but stare at Sprout as the other helped him. He was quiet and focused on taking care of Astro. It made Astro appreciate the others a bit. While Cosmo was talkative and excited all the time, Sprout was a lot more quiet and focused. He was still just as talkative but to Astro, he enjoyed how the other took into consideration how he didn’t always want to talk. He could spend moments staring at the strawberry and just appreciate him, his face, the way his nose twitched as he concentrated, how he’d bite his lip when he was frustrated or the way his eyes would-
“If you keep staring at me that hard you’re going to burn holes into my head.” Sprout muttered. Astro flushed and backed up a bit.
“Ah- I’m sorry…I think I just zoned out-“ Astro began to try and apologize before Sprout waved him off, closing his bag and standing up.
“It’s alright, I was just trying to tell you I was done with healing you…” Sprout replied, a small hum coming from him.
Astro looked back at Sprout. “Wait!-“ he began, sitting up fully. His magic took a hold of the other hand. “We could just relax for a bit…”
Sprout looked at Astro and flushed a bit. “Oh uhm…sure! But I don’t want to ruin anything with these gross clothes.” He muttered before being tugged back on the bed.
Astro simply smiled and wrapped his arms around him. “No…I’ll make an exception for you…” pressing his face into the other's neck.
Sprout covered his face, glancing away from Astro as the other laid down with him in his arms. “I- okay…” he moved so he was on his stomach and stared at Astro.
Astro laughed softly. “You look so red…redder than normal anyways…” Sprout huffed and buried his face onto Astros chest, causing the moon to laugh quietly. “Sorry, you’re just cute like this…” he whispered.
Sprout tensed a bit, keeping his face in Astro’s chest. “What?-“
Astro glanced down at him. “You’re cute like this…you’re usually so serious…I like it when you relax sometimes…” Astro continued, his hand gently caressing the top of Sprout's head.
Sprout tightened his grip on Astro’s shirt, a soft whine coming from his as he sat up, looking at Astro. “What are you trying to say?” He asked quietly.
Astro looked up at him and smiled wider. “…I’m saying I think you’re cute…” he whispered, cupping Sprouts cheeks while the other set of hands rested on his hips. “And I wished you’d relax more….you always work so hard…I wish you’d take a break sometimes…” Astro said, pulling Sprout's cheeks while closer to him.
Sprouts eyes stared into Astros for a moment before he looked away again. “I- why does it matter so much-“ Sprout gasped as he felt Astros lips on him, pressing against him till the other was practically pressing him into the bed.
Quiet moans and whines came from the two before Sprout rapidly patted Astros back, begging for air. Astro pulled back, panting quietly, watching Sprout with a slight smirk.
Spout panted, covering his mouth as he caught his breath, staring up at the moon. “Hah…Astro-“
“I love you sprout…” Astro whispered, pressing his face into his neck. “I love you a lot…” he continued.
Sprout moved his arms around Astros neck. “I love you too…” he whispered back.
Astro laughed. “I know…Cosmo told me…”
Sprout flushed and groaned, pushing Astro away. “Ugh! That dick! I told him that with confidence!” He yelled as he sat up. “I’ll tell that jerk off! I told him-“ He was about to get up and leave before Astro laughed and pulled Sprout back onto the bed.
“No, no, he didn’t mean too.” Astro said between soft laughs, pressing his face back between Sprouts neck. “It was all an accident, we were just talking about Brightney and Rodger when Cosmo made a comparison of Rodger to you…” he hummed.
Sprout huffed, rolling his eyes. He crossed his arms and leaned back into Astro. “What did he say?” He asked after a beat of silence.
Astro chuckled as he thought for a moment. “Something about how...both you and Rodger are simps, except you are just less noticeable about your crush on me.” He remembered.
Sprout rolled his eyes, his nose twitching slightly as he scoffed. “That’s because Rodger folds whenever Brightney even looks in his direction.”
Astro raised a brow and smirked. “And you don’t?” Sprout pressed a hand against Astros face pushing him away.
“Okay- let me go-“ he said as Astro broke out into a loud laugh. “It’s not funny!” He retorted, but it only made Astro laugh louder.
“I’m not wrong though…” Astro hummed, pressing a kiss to Sprout's hand that still pressed gently against his face. “During that run you wouldn’t leave my side… I know I was badly hurt but it’s not like I could’ve gotten caught easily…” he whispered.
Sprout flushed and looked away. He pulled his hand back and crossed his arms. Sure, he had put himself in danger several times just to make sure Astro would be safe, but it’s not like it was safe to be split up at that moment. He had only elected to stay with Astro because he could run pretty fast and get the twisteds away from the moon. That wasn’t because he had been wanting to spend more time with Astro. While that was part of it, safety was his priority, especially since goob had been struggling slightly with keeping all of the twisteds rounded up.
Astro stared at Sprout for a moment, noting how the other had gotten quiet. He sighed and laid back down, pulling Sprout along with him. This causes a slight yelp from the other. “You’re thinking too much about this…” he said quietly.
“It’s just- I don’t…” Sprout trailed off, covering his face again. “Ugh…I wasn’t even that ready to say anything….” He muttered into Astro’s chest.
Astro tilted his head. “If it makes you feel better…this wasn’t what I had planned when I wanted to admit this to you….” He muttered.
Sprout glanced back at Astro. “What…” he sat up again, now sitting on Astros lap. “What do you mean?”
It was Astro’s turn to flush now. He made a sheepish laugh as he turned away. “Well…after Cosmo told me you liked me I didn’t really know what to do, so I went to Vee for help…” he muttered.
**———————————**
Vee stared at Astro from across the table, she tilted her head as she thought for a while. “So…Sprout has a crush on you?” She questioned.
Astro flushed and nodded quietly. “Yes…”
Vee leaned forward, her arms resting against the table. “And you want me to help?” She questioned.
To which Astro nodded again. “Yes…If you don’t mind.” Vee could only laugh.
“Of course I’ll help you, not like I’ve gotten much going on anyways.” Vee hummed, she tapped the table and looked around for a moment before speaking again.
“You don’t seem so happy about this though…I thought this was what you wanted?” She questioned, noting Astros' quiet demeanor.
Astro perked up and nodded his head. “Of course it’s what I wanted! Why would you think otherwise?” Astro pouted, his eye twitching slightly as he avoided eye contact with the screen.
“Well geez sorry…you’re just all deep in thought, usually when you do that you sleep.” Vee said with a snicker.
Astro rolled his eyes. “I just…I just want this to be special…I mean sprout puts so much effort into everything…” he whispered, staring at his lap.
Vee’s eyes softened as she stood up. “Well, I suppose I can be of help then. You helped me before so I’ll help you.” She said, her screen switching to a grin.
Astro smiled back and stood as well. “Thank you Vee…do you have an idea?” He asked with a tilted head.
Vee hummed, a hand under her chin as she began to walk. “Well…sprout would probably like whatever you do but I’d say do something simple but clear that you put a lot of effort in…” She muttered. Astro sighed at that as he followed her.
“Sure he would…but I want it to be perfect for him.”
“Maybe make him some food? I’m sure he’d appreciate being the one served instead of him doing it!” Vee suggested, her hand on her hip as the two walked into the common area.
Astro thought about it for a moment. “I mean..that could work… I don’t know how to cook though…”
Vee smirked. “That’s why we’ll enlist cosmos help! And I’ll be there to read instructions to you two.” Astro smiled a bit as Vee put an arm around his shoulder. “Thank you…”
Vee shrugged. “I’m not doing anything else, plus this will be fun to do I suppose.” She hummed as she looked around the common room for a moment. There weren’t many people within the room, about 4 that Vee could see.
“Seems like cosmo isn’t in here…maybe he’s in the kitchen?” Vee thought out loud.
“Ah- Maybe? But then…wouldn’t Sprout also be in the kitchen…” He whispered.
“Yes, more than likely, we can just kick him out, it’s fine-“
“But wouldn’t that be mean? I mean, it is his space too…” Astro muttered, lifting his hand to his mouth.
Vee waved her hand. “Oh he’ll be fine, not like- Jeez! Shelly a warning would be nice!” Vee yelled as she practically jumped into Astros arms.
Shelly laughed a bit as she put her hand on her hip. “Sorry, Sorry.” She said between laughs “But, what are you guys doing?” She questioned.
Vee hummed, glancing at Astro. “Oh- we…we’re looking for cosmo…” He muttered.
“Well, he’s in the kitchen, but what do you need Cosmo for?”
“Oh…Uh…”
“We need help cooking something.” Vee said, speaking for Astro instead.
“Oh! Well…Why don’t you ask Sprout? He’s more of the cook between the two-“ Astro used a hand and covered Shelly’s mouth, Vee quickly shushing her and moving her out of the common area. A few toons watched them before continuing back with what they were doing.
Shelly made some noises until They were in a corner. Shelly moved Astro’s hand away, her face contorting into a grimace. “What the heck guys!- Why the heck did you-“
“I like sprout!” Astro yelled quickly, his face burning brightly. Shelly looked shocked and glanced towards Vee. Vee simply nodded in agreement to Astro.
“We’re trying to find Cosmo so we can make something special for Sprout.” Vee continued.
Shelly gasped and covered her mouth. “Ohhhhh- And you don’t want it to get out-“
“Cause sprout could find out…” Astro continued her train of thought. Shelly made a small laugh and nodded.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to almost out you like that…” Shelly scratched her neck, looking away.
Astro simply sighed and shook his head. “No it’s okay…It’s not like you knew…” He said softly.
