Finding the Time to Write?
Check out my article from my website. Check out my website for more articles....enjoy!
Finding the time to write can sometimes be hard, especially when you are working. As per the request of some of you this post is going to be about how to find the time to be a writer. Right then let’s get started!
Rule 1: Always carry a notebook and pen with you
This can be a life saver for your ideas. Since I started writing I have always carried with me a notebook and a pen with me. By carrying these items everywhere, I go whenever I have an idea I can just grab my notebook and pen and scribble them down before I forget what they were even if they don’t make it in my books.
Rule 2: Don’t force yourself to use the computer
When you get back from a long day when you have been sitting in meetings and in front of a computer he last thing you want to do is sitting in font of another computer and start to write your chapter.
To rest your eyes why don’t you put pen to paper do your writing the old fashioned way.
Rule 3: Voice Recorder is your friend
Sometimes speaking your ideas out loud can help you brainstorm and imagine your scenes and how you want your characters to react throughout that particular scene or chapter. You can use the voice recorder app on your phones or invest in a voice recorder/ Dictaphone. Sometimes a Dictaphone would be more preferable to some writers so that they cannot be distracted easily by other apps interfering.
Rules 4: Track your progress
Tracking your progress is a great thing to do as you can see how your book is coming along and how it is developing this. You can do this by creating a ghant chart on Microsoft Excel or something similar that can help you keep an eye on your progress.
Rule 5: Set yourself goals and treat yourself
Setting yourself goals and treating yourself can be a good motivational tool for writers. I use a particular app called “Writeometer”. According to their ‘About’ section of the app, “This app was designed by Guavabot with writers in mind, with the goal of helping them develop and maintain a daily writing habit”.
With this app I can set myself goals to write a certain amount a day. When you have achieved your daily goals, you earn what they call “guavas”. The more guavas you are earn the better the treats you can set for yourself. Setting yourself goals can be for example:
· Earn 1x guava and you can have something to eat
· Earn 2x guavas you can browse Facebook
· Earn 3x guavas you can have a shower
(Please note you can set your treat to whatever you want them to be!)
These 5 Rules are good to know and good to follow as it will help you as writers to develop and maintain good writing habits for when you are working and to help you keep the balance.
