I made these as a way to compile all the geographical vocabulary that I thought was useful and interesting for writers. Some descriptors share categories, and some are simplified, but for the most part everything is in its proper place. Not all the words are as useable as others, and some might take tricky wording to pull off, but I hope these prove useful to all you writers out there!

Penelope Bridgerton is about 7 months pregnant, and is quietly reading in the lounge area outside of their bedroom. Colin comes home to find his wife absolutely irresistible...
out with lanterns by ghostjpeg - (Rating: T, Words: 5,288)
“I love your flowers,” Penelope whispered thoughtlessly, instantly cutting off whatever he meant to say.
His mouth worked uselessly for a moment, his eyes flitting rapidly across her face. “You do?”
“I must have told you that before.”
Colin’s face was indescribable, a bit flustered, a bit disbelieving, a bit pleased. “You haven’t told me that. Not in so many words.”
or: A bad party, a dark car ride, love that glows in the dark.
written ‘mine’ on her upper thigh by maxmayfield - (Rating: T, Words: 1,841)
“Wait here a moment, while I speak with the servants. Then I shall help you with your dress.” Penelope manages a breathy laugh. “I don’t suppose you have any skills with hairdressing?”
Colin’s thoughts during and after the mirror scene.
Chaos and Serenity by Bananarama19 - (Rating: Not Rated, Words: 39,432)
A season 3 fix it, as I was disappointed in the lack of Polin and some of the ways Colin was portrayed.
***Spoilers for Season 3 eps***
Starting from the end of episode 2, with mostly Colin POV.
Justice for Colin “my wife” Bridgerton!!!
Can we do it again? by princesspola - (Rating: Explicit, Words: 739)
What happened after Penelope asked Colin to go again. Let's just say 5 minutes were more than enough ;)
you come to me in the middle of the night by eponymiad - (Rating: Mature, Words: 866)
“I miss you too,” Colin says, the fondest smile playing at his lips. He’s holed up in a hotel in Bucharest and won’t be home for a few more days still. They both let the silence stretch, watching each other. It’s almost, not quite, like being together. “I got you a surprise,” Penelope says. * Penelope buys some lingerie and just can't wait till Colin gets back from his trip to show it to him.
Odd Encounter by StarsOverSunrays - (Rating: G, Words: 10,373)
One seemingly normal afternoon, blissfully married Colin and Penelope Bridgerton find the most peculiar guests on their doorstep.
Themselves.
(or: What if book! Polin and series! Polin got to have a nice little chat over some tea?)
After the Ball by Fifi2930 - (Rating: Explicit, Words: 2,823)
A missing moment fic of Colin and Penelope's first night together after the Finch-Dankworth ball, of which we only saw the briefest interlude.
have my back, yeah, everyday by my_middle_name_is_awkward - (Rating: G, Words: 2,312)
Colin had very little patience for Cressida Cowper before he and Penelope were engaged.
Now, he must make it clear that he will not tolerate her comments about his soon-to-be wife.
The Gilded Mark by Lilyofthevolume - (Rating: Mature, Words: 18,613)
When a person comes of age they receive a soul mark, a unique symbol that can be found on one other person in the world. Colin Bridgerton is the third born in a family known for their love matches. Penelope Featherington is the daughter of a degenerate gambler whose only prayer that her mark will match someone kind and respectful, instead of cruel and controlling. When Penelope debuts and is marked with the same symbol that graces Colin's wrist a future she never imagined is suddenly possible.

I saw a man saying that women “obsessing” over the Penelope x colin carriage scene are weird. But have they ever considered that we often seek out and love this media because in real life it isn’t often that women are adored. Colin LOVES her, worships her, he wasn’t concerned with his pleasure in that carriage…he was concerned with hers and hers only. Proceeded to ask if she consented (with his eyes but you know), and then loved her while they were intimate. Held eye contact, ensured she was looking nice when they stopped, it’s precious and it’s RAREEEE!! Is it that hard for men to understand that a lot of women just crave love, affection and genuine intimacy?
Sigh

I just have a HC that Evan Buckley & Tommy Kinard is dating for a few months (like maybe 2 or 3) and he just wants to surprise his boyfriend by dropping in his house! But Tommy doesn't hear him knocking, so he entered Tommy's house by using the key the older man had given him and he sees Tommy busy painting the way he sees Evan and I just WANT TO SEE IT ON SCREEN!

All these journalist who are covering 911 weekly..are getting on my nerves..
It's pretty clear a lot of them are b*ddie shipper's ( which is not a problem) until they bring it into the interviews
Not only with Oliver or Ryan they constantly asking the other cast members as well when they don't have anything to do with it..
When we got Oliver doing rounds of interviews it was always about b*ddie the same question over and over again.
As if buck bisexuality means nothing when it doesn't lead to b*ddie and completely ignoring that buck is literally in a relationship with Tommy ..
They also constantly teasing stuff on twitter and people freak out for no reasons and then they go and attacking Tim or Lou and people who don't ship b*ddie because they don't get what they want...
They all part of the problem why that fandom gets more toxic each week...

Tommy is the pizza delivery guy, send tweet:
‚That‘s gotta be the pizza,‘ Buck says as the doorbell rings, scraping the last of the burnt lasagna into the trash before setting down the dish on the counter, wiping down his hands on a kitchen towel as he crosses the room to get the door, buzz up the delivery guy.
‚Large pepperoni and large ham and cheese, pineapple on one side?‘
‚Tommy!‘ Buck knows he looks star struck, can feel the wide smile on his face upon seeing his boyfriend — his boyfriend, they‘d agreed to call it that for now, after Tommy had met everyone at the wedding — walking down the hallway from the elevator, three large pizza boxes in hand. ‚What are you doing here?‘
‚Eddie called me, gave me a tip,‘ he says, stopping in front of Buck. He leans in and Buck meets him halfway, pressing their mouths together over the pizza boxes. ‚You know when you said you were busy tonight, I assumed it was a shift or something, not kid sitting duties.‘
‚You asked me if I was free for date night,‘ Buck argues back, taking Tommy‘s hand and pulling him into the loft, hearing Christopher‘s excited exclamation of ‚Tommy!‘ behind him. ‚This isn‘t really very date night.‘ He knows he sounds sheepish, even to his own ears, doesn’t even remember why he hadn’t given Tommy any specifics on what he was busy tonight with.
‚No?‘ Tommy asks, both eyebrows raised as he placed the pizza boxes on the table, grinning at Christopher and reaching out to fistbump him hello. ‚I‘d say pizza and videogames with a cool kid AND my boyfriend sounds like a perfect way to spend the evening.‘ He straightens, leaving Chris to busy himself opening the pizza boxes as he walks back over to Buck. ‚I don‘t need the grand gestures and neatly planned dates,‘ he says, voice dipping low, intimate as he reaches out, resting one hand on Buck‘s waist where the apron is still tied around him. ‚I just want to spend time with you, Evan.‘
He can‘t help himself, he has to lean in, dragging Tommy into a kiss that‘s sweet and gentle and full of longing, his heart threatening to burst out of his chest. He can feel Tommy smile against his lips, just as smitten.
‚Guys, the pizza is getting cold! Stop kissing!‘ Chris announces behind them, and they break apart smiling.
‚I‘m happy you‘re here, let me grab you a plate. Beer?‘
Tommy nods, before his face turns serious. ‚Please tell me the pineapple on pizza is for Chris, because that is a crime against Italians around the world and he‘s a kid so he‘ll get away with it but not sure I could let you get away with it.‘

Buck was just waiting for his bestfriends to finally arrive after he started cleaning everything he used after his disastrous experiment with lasagna, that he wanted to cook for Chris - and wanted to cook perfectly for his Italian boyfriend Tommy - for their (Tommy and Buck) date night. Hearing the knock on his door, Buck left some of the plates in his sink to soak, approaching it he smiled when he saw his best friend and his favorite Diaz, "Hey come on in!"
"Hey yeah, sorry we're late," Eddie apologizes as he looks at his best friend's place as he smells something weird "Is that smoke?" he comments as he removes Christopher's backpack from his shoulders.
Evan closed the door and replied, "Uh yeah, trying to crack this new lasagna recipe for date night. I think it might have cracked me." he then moves away from the door.
"Dad already ordered the pizza." Christopher quickly revealed.
"It'll be here in 15 minutes" Eddie replied as he saw his best friend look at him baffled, he knows Buck have said that dinner was on him, the lasagna was on him, but he also knows his son is a growing boy. He doesn't expect Buck to feed Christopher and Tommy (both very healthy eaters) at the same time "and a very very giant tip has been included."
"Ok great, and what time are you meeting Marisol?" Buck asked as he looked at his best friend.
Eddie checked his watch and replied, "I need to be there in 30 minutes, speaking of, where's Tommy?"he asked as he didn't see Buck's boyfriend.
"He's stuck in traffic" Buck explained, "But it's date night, he'll be here." he ended with a smile.
Eddie nodded, "Are you sure you two are okay with Christopher invading date night?" he asked with a slightly worried smile.
Buck stopped as he thought of what had Tommy said to him when he texted the older man about this last minute change of plans, the older man had only reassured him that:
Date night can mean anything Evan, as long as I am spending it with you. We can watch TV and just relax that could be a date night, we could play some games in your PS4 and I can count that as date night, we can babysit Jee and Christopher and I could still call that a date night. I just want to spend time with you and I will call that a successful date night.
Buck swooned from that ok?! He never experienced this safety, this comfortability in knowing someone by doing mundane tasks like babysitting other than with Tommy. He is just so happy spending time with the older man and he looks forward to this date night and their other future date nights that he almost missed what his best friend had said; "Uh what?"
"I'm not going out with Marisol, I met this amazing woman, her name's Kim and I need to go before I get stuck in traffic." Eddie stated as he rubbed a hand through Christopher's head affectionately before walking towards the door.
Buck was stunned, "Eddie what do you mean it's not Marisol? I thought you're just going to take it slow?" he started "Is that why you smell like too much cologne?" he continued.
But the other man only continued on, and ignored him as he turned towards Christopher "Don't stay out too late and play too much video game." Eddie stated as he ran his fingers through his son's hair.
"We won't but Eddie..." Buck continued baffled, he thought he agreed in babysitting Christopher so that his best friend can get alone time with his girlfriend and not start cheating on her with him as an accomplice.
Eddie turned towards Buck with a grin, "Wasn't talking to you Buck!" he ended as he opened the door.
Buck can only take a few kernels of popcorn conveniently waiting on the dining table to throw at his best friend's back but even before he could ask Eddie for clarification his best friend had already closed the door behind him. "Uh..." he said as he looked at the pre-teen in front of him, "...give me a second, Superman, I just need to make a call." he continued before sprinting up the stairs to call another responsible adult to commiserate with.
After three rings his call was answered by a sweet: "Hey Evan"
A soft smile appeared on Buck's face, "Hey, hey Tommy!" he replied, "Uh did you get a message from Eddie earlier about his date tonight?" he asked.
"Yes, Eddie just asked me if I was really okay that our date night will be interrupted because he got a last minute reservation in this restaurant he wanted to bring Marisol to."
Buck gulps, "Did he specify who he is going with or he just said a restaurant he wanted to bring his date to?" he asked as he bit on the side of his thumb.
"He didn't specify it, but Evan, who could he bring to the restaurant other than Marisol? He's dating her right?"
Buck closed his eyes and said: "Apparently this date is not with Marisol, it's with Kim and we are unknown accomplice to our stupid friend's cheating."
There was a long pause before Buck heard his boyfriend spluttering, "What?!"
"Yeah..."
And with a deep sigh Buck and Tommy just commiserated with each other silently. They didn't ask to be silent accomplices in their friend's delinquency, and yet there they two are.
It might not be the correct ask, but I did what I can. 😅 Hope you enjoyed!

aight I'ma say something
some people hate tommy for how he treated chimney. that thing where he was super unwelcoming to him as a probie (probably bc he was insecure in a regressive environment) and didn't warm up to him until chim saved his life and then got friendlier but never apologized on screen
*cracks knuckles*
so like when buck was aggressive and unwelcoming to eddie as a probie (probably bc he was insecure bc of his abandonment issues) and didn't warm up to him until he and Eddie were in a life threatening situation where his life depended on Eddie and then got friendlier with him but never apologized on screen... 🤔🤔🤔

On Tommy Kinard
"It's not that I don't like Buck and Tommy, it's just happening so fast, he's underdeveloped!"
*clears throat*
Here is a recap of what we know about Tommy. And this is just off the top of my head, I didn't rewatch anything.
He was closeted at the 118 before and found the atmosphere repressive. He (probably) acted like a dick to fit in. When presented with the chance to make things better, he took it, and developed positive relationships with Hen, Chim and Bobby.
He was in the army and trained there as a pilot.
He knows Muay Thai and has a set up in his house.
He likes to work on cars and has a lift at his house (where TF does he live is my question - he has some nerve being agog at Buck's loft if he has a muay thai gym and a car lift)
He is down for violating departmental policy at the drop of a hat (has done so on at least two occasions) to help a friend and has no problems fucking with the fire chief.
He is a nerd. He likes pub trivia and has incorrect Star Wars opinions, and can keep up with Chim in the movie-quoting department.
His favorite movie is "Love, Actually" and he likes craft beer and monster trucks.
He came out when he transferred to Harbor and felt comfortable enough to stop lying about who he was.
He follows MMA and has friends in Vegas who like him well enough to hook him up to a frankly insane degree.
He'll risk his own life and engage in helicopter skulduggery to save people he doesn't know...I mean, apart from doing that for a living.
He'll take time out of his day to give a tour to the cute boy who called him up and offer to give that boy flying lessons (a significant time investment) which was probably maybe about more one on one time with said boy.
He yearns for the belonging and found family that the 118 became after his departure and probably befriended Eddie hoping to earn a plate at the cookout, aside from just clicking with him.
He likes Eddie and Chris a lot and they like him. Chimney also likes him.
He was attracted to Buck right away and was emotionally aware enough to pick up on Buck's jealous feelings over Eddie and his friendship, even if he was surprised that it was him Buck wanted to get to know.
He respects and values Buck and Eddie's friendship and wanted to make sure Buck knew that.
He's brave enough to shoot his shot by planting one on a dude.
He's a lil bitchy but also generous and ready to throw in with this insane guy who's inviting him to a family wedding after 0.5 dates.
He showed up to a bachelor party when he was on call because Buck asked him to, then showed up in turnouts after fighting a fire for like 12 hours yadda yadda we all know this part.
He has got it BAD for one Evan Buckley, who he only calls "Evan" which according to LFJR is a conscious decision by the writers, which fascinates me.
He was willing to take a chance with a man just discovering his sexuality BUT wasn't willing to put himself through that if the man in question wasn't ready for it. When Buck showed him that he was, he was all in.
He does NOT take his coffee like that.
Oh and
He's a beast.
This is VASTLY more information than we knew about ANY of Buck's previous girlfriends with the possible exception of Abby. Even Taylor did not get this much development over 20 episodes (things we knew about her: she was an ambitious and ethically flexible reporter, did not eat fudge, had a dad in jail, and sometimes jogged for exercise, she was capable of being nice and did love Buck, I believe). And as for it being fast? Sometimes it just be like that? A relationship doesn't have to have year(s) of buildup. Sometimes people do just meet, like each other, and start dating, in fact in the real world that's usually what happens. It's in TV Land that you have to have eighteen seasons of UST before pulling the trigger. Most of the time in reality people just vibe off each other and decide to go out and THEN they learn about each other.
And they've got a great start. You'd think they'd barely spoken by how a few naysayers are talking about it - the loft scene was like a solid five minutes of very open conversation, the Cringe Date seemed to have gone well and again, open and honest (if cringey) conversation before Cockblocker Eddie showed up, and the coffee meetup was again....open and honest conversation. They're not gonna show us long scenes of them exchanging firefighting stories and workout preferences (I mean, I'd watch that, but it's not what the show is about).
In conclusion, anyone saying he's poorly developed or the relationship is "out of nowhere" either is being willfully obtuse or has ridiculously unrealistic expectations for relationships and/or what constitutes character development.
As for whether they have chemistry, that's a matter of subjective opinion. Given that a TON of people watched that harbor tour scene (even when it was posted as a sneak peek) and started going "wait...what's going on here...are they flirting??" might be a clue. People were talking about Bi!Buck maybe happening with Tommy based solely off that clip of the harbor tour and what they were seeing between them. And imho that loft scene was crackling. But we all see things through the lenses of our biases, myself included.
Got that off my chest, whew.

Tommy was enjoying sitting out in the sun with Evan's hand caught between both of his when his phone rang. He still couldn't believe that he'd just agreed to be Evan's date to his sister's wedding.
Reluctantly, he removed his hand from on top of Evan's to pull his phone from his pocket. He didn't recognize the phone number, but in his line of work he couldn't ignore a call from an unknown number.
"I should probably take this," he said as he accepted the call. "Hello?"
"Hi Tommy, it's Bobby Nash."
"Captain Nash, hi," Tommy said, meeting Evan's wide eyes across the table. Evan gave his hand a little squeeze. "What can I do for you, Sir?"
"Athena and I would like you to come to dinner at our house," Bobby said. "We barely got to talk after the rescue and we would like to thank you properly."
"I was just doing my job," Tommy deflected, not that he wasn't grateful for the invitation.
"We both know that you weren't sanctioned to come get us. You put your career on the line to come save us and I cannot say how grateful we are that you did. The least we can do is make you a home cooked meal."
"I do miss your cooking," Tommy admitted.
"I don't know if you're seeing anyone, but feel free to bring them along, too," Bobby offered.
Tommy turned his hand over so he could squeeze Evan's. "I have started seeing someone who I think I'd like to bring."
Across the table, Evan pointed at his chest and mouthed, 'Me?' Tommy just nodded.
"We look forward to meeting them," Bobby said. "How's Wednesday night?"
"Wednesday works for me," Tommy agreed.
"I'll text you the address. I look forward to catching up," Bobby said.
"I'll see you then," Tommy said. He met Evan's eyes. "Want to go to dinner at Captain Nash's with me on Wednesday as my date?"
"You want me to be your date for dinner with Bobby and Athena?"
"Only if you're comfortable with it," Tommy said.
"Well, he'd find out about us at the wedding anyway," Evan said. "I like the idea of him knowing about us before then. He is kinda like my work dad."
"That's not really a thing," Tommy said, laughing. "I can't believe how much of a family the 118 became after I left."
"Hey, if you hadn't left when you did, I could have ended up at some other station." Evan shuddered dramatically.
Tommy blinked. "I hadn't done that math. You were my replacement."
"You left some pretty big shoes to fill," Evan said.
"How old are you?" Tommy hesitantly asked.
"I'm thirty-four," Evan said.
"Ten years, that's not so bad," Tommy mused aloud.
"If it makes you feel any better, you wouldn't be the first person I've dated who is older than me. Abby was like twenty years older than me when we dated," Evan admitted.
"You have some kind of May/December fetish I should be aware of?" Tommy teased.
"N-No," Evan spluttered. "This would only be the second time I dated someone that much older than me. Not that you're old."
"I'm kidding, Evan," Tommy said. He wondered why Evan seemed to melt a bit every time he said his name. He'd need to remember to ask him about that sometime.
"Besides, there is something to being with someone more mature, with more life experience," Evan said.
"Especially for someone who only recently discovered they were into men?" Tommy asked, knowingly.
"Yeah," Evan said, blushing.
"So, what kind of wine should I bring to this dinner?" Tommy asked, looking to get back onto safer ground.
"Red wine for Athena and something non-alcoholic for Bobby," Evan said.
"He's sober?" Tommy asked. "That certainly explains some things."
"Not my story to tell, but yeah," Evan confirmed.
"Do you have a wine preference?" Tommy asked. "I'm not all that picky," Evan said. "Depends on my mood."
"Good to know," Tommy said. He took another sip of his terrible coffee and grimaced. "First, I'm going to get some real coffee and then head to the liquor store. Care to join me?"
"Y-you want me to come with you?" Evan asked, clearly surprised.
"Unless you have plans?"
"No, my day is wide open," Evan said, enthusiastically.
"Great, let's go," Tommy said.
~~*~~
On Wednesday night, Tommy picked Evan up before heading to the Grant-Nash home. He and Evan had a mild debate about who should drive since Evan had been to the house many times before, but Tommy wanted to woo Evan. Even if just a little.
Evan was fidgeting beside him as Tommy rang the doorbell.
"Second thoughts?" he asked, resting a hand on Evan's back.
Evan steeled himself and grinned at Tommy. "Not a one."
The door swung open to reveal both Bobby and Athena. Tommy registered their surprise at seeing Evan with him.
"Buck, what are you doing here?" Bobby asked.
"I-I'm Tommy's plus one," he stuttered.
Athena recovered first and stepped around Bobby to loop her arm through Tommy's and pull him inside. "That is wonderful news. I can't wait to hear all about how you two got together."
As they walked down a short flight of stairs, Tommy saw Bobby pull Evan into a hug and say so softly that Tommy almost couldn't hear it, "I'm happy for you."
"This is for you," Tommy said, presenting the wine to Athena. "Thank you for having us over."
"It is our pleasure," she said. "Especially if we are getting the good gossip before everyone else." She winked at him.
"I'm afraid Eddie's got you beat, in that case," Evan said as he and Bobby joined them. "He interrupted our first date."
"He does know how to keep a secret," Bobby said. "We didn't even know about Christopher for the first few weeks he was with us."
"He seems like a really great kid," Tommy said.
"You've met him?" Bobby asked in surprise. "I thought you were dating Buck."
"I am, but Eddie and I have become pretty good friends since the rescue, too," Tommy said. "I've hung out at his place to watch some fights."
"Tommy flew the two of them to Vegas to see some fight a couple of weeks ago," Buck added.
"You sure you're not dating both of them?" Athena teased.
"Oh, I'm sure; Eddie turned me down when I asked for a date, but said he wanted to be friends."
"Wait, you asked Eddie on a date?" Evan asked in surprise.
"I'm going to finish getting dinner on the table. Is that for tonight?" Bobby asked, gesturing to the bottle of sparkling grape juice in Evan's hand. He held it out for Bobby without looking away from Tommy.
"I'll go pour the wine," Athena said. "We're going to need it."
"Did you kiss him, too?" Evan demanded in a whisper, pulling Tommy to the far side of the room.
"No, it was nothing like that," Tommy insisted. "On the way back from Vegas I asked if I could take him on a proper date and Eddie said that he was flattered, but he had a girlfriend. I was surprised because it was the first time he'd mentioned her. Apparently she'd been babysitting Christopher while we were at the fight."
"So, am I like some kind of consolation prize?" Evan asked, his voice trembling.
"No, never," Tommy grasped Evan's face between both his hands. "I didn't know you were an option until I went to your loft that night. And when you said you'd been trying to get my attention all week, I realized I didn't want to miss my chance with you."
He kissed Evan then, a soft chaste kiss since they were at someone else's home, but one filled with promise.
Evan looked dazed when he released him, just like after their first kiss. Tommy could get used to putting that look on Evan's face.
"Now let's go eat, I'm starving," Tommy said, grabbing Evan's hand and pulling him towards the kitchen. "It smells amazing in here."
"You guys all good?" Athena asked, an eyebrow raised.
"Yeah, we're good," Evan said, that dopey grin still on his face.
"Coming through," Bobby said, setting a large pan of lasagna on the trivets on the table.
Tommy inhaled deeply and sighed. "Man, I've missed your cooking."
"I'll have to make you my version sometime," Evan said as they sat. "Bobby's been teaching me how to cook and I think I've got this one down. Eddie and Christopher like it, at least."
"You've got the chili down, too," Bobby said, "now that you know the secret ingredient."
"He told you his secret chili ingredient?" Athena asked, surprised. "I don't even know that."
Evan puffed out his chest. "Yeah, I pestered it out of him."
Bobby served up the lasagna, the salad and garlic bread were passed around, and they took a few minutes to enjoy their food.
"Bobby, you have only become a better chef," Tommy said. "When you retire you should definitely open a restaurant."
Bobby laughed. "Thank you for the compliment but that is a stress I do not want in my retirement. I much prefer cooking for family and friends."
"The 118 really has become a family, hasn't it?" Tommy asked, somewhat wistfully. "I could see it heading that way when I left, but leaving was still the right move for me."
"You seem happy at Harbor," Bobby said. "I've heard nothing but good things from your captain."
"You checkin' up on me?" Tommy teased.
"Maybe from time to time," Bobby admitted. "You seem much freer since your time with us."
Tommy glanced over at Evan. "Yeah, when I started at the 217 I did it as an out gay man. Took a page from Wilson's book and made it clear that this is who I am."
"I heard a lot of stories about Captain Gerard when I started and I know what it was like under him. I understand why you didn't feel comfortable sharing that part of yourself. I'm glad you found somewhere that you can be you."
"Yeah, Gerard was the worst kind of old school misogynist. I saw what Han and Wilson went through when they started and out of self preservation didn't want to have him treat me that way, too. It was cowardly, but it was also survival."
Evan reached over to squeeze his thigh under the table.
"I am a bit surprised you didn't tell us about yourself, Buck," Athena said. "You seem to share so much of yourself with everyone that this caught us a bit by surprise."
"I, um, didn't actually know this about myself until recently," Evan said, meeting Tommy's eyes. "Not until Tommy kissed me."
Tommy wondered about the look that Bobby and Athena shared and wondered if it had something to do with Evan and Eddie's close friendship.
"Well, I'm -"
"We're," Athena cut in.
"We're very happy for you both. I'm guessing you haven't told the rest of the team, aside from Eddie?"
"That's correct," Evan said. "Well, Maddie knows. Pretty sure she hasn't told Chimney since he isn't bouncing off the walls trying to keep a secret."
"But they'll know soon, as I'll be Evan's date for his sister's wedding," Tommy finished.
"Now that's one way to come out," Athena said. "You sure you want to do that with your parents there?"
"I'm done trying to get their approval. We're never going to be close. If they can't accept that I'm dating a man now, that's on them."
Tommy could sense that there was a lot of bad blood there, but now was not the time to ask. He wondered if this had anything to do with why everyone called him Buck instead of by his name and wondered if he should be doing that too. But Evan hadn't asked him not to call him Evan; in fact, he seemed to like it. Tommy made a note to ask about that later.
"That's very mature of you," Athena said.
"What can I say, the therapy actually helped."
The rest of dinner progressed easily. Athena told them about Bobby's heroics after the ship capsized and his acrobatics to get Norman safely lowered to the new floor of the ship.
Tommy told them about some of his more interesting rescues, although saving Bobby and Athena would be at the top of his list for a long time when telling stories to other people.
When it was time to go, Bobby packaged up the leftover lasagna for Tommy to take home with him. Evan pouted about Tommy getting all of the leftovers and Bobby promised to make it at the station soon.
On the drive back to Evan's loft, Tommy asked, "Would you prefer if I call you Buck?" Evan turned to look at him. "It's just, I know that's what everyone else calls you."
"I-I kinda like that you don't call me what everyone else does," Evan admitted. "I always felt like such a disappointment as Evan, so when there were two other Evans in my class at the fire academy I started having people call me Buck. Buck wasn't a screw up. Buck was a firefighter who could get things done. Someone who mattered."
"You matter regardless of what you're called," Tommy interrupted.
Evan reached out to clasp Tommy's hand on the gearshift. "I know that. And when you call me Evan, I don't feel like a disappointment. I guess you could say that you're a first step to reclaiming that name."
"So should I expect everyone else to start calling you Evan now, too?" Tommy asked.
"Unlikely," Evan said, laughing. "You've seen how no one calls Chimney 'Howie' anymore. Except for Maddie, sometimes."
"If at any point you change your mind, I will call you by whatever name you want," Tommy assured him.
"Thank you, that means a lot," Evan answered.
As they approached Evan's apartment building, he asked, "Do you want to come up for a nightcap?"
Tommy glanced over to see the hopeful expression on Evan's face and even though he knew he shouldn't, he found himself saying, "I'd love to."

"I didn't cut things short because you behaved badly, I did it because I didn't want to pressure you."
When writers give us gold. Men from all sides, this is how you deal with someone who feels insecure or is hesitant. You don't push, you don't blame, you don't harass, you don't assault. You take a step back with respect for the other person.
