Remembrance Day
Each year, Wroxham Parish Council joins the village to remember those that lost their lives during the Great Wars of 1914 and 1939 and subsequent conflicts since, by supporting the Royal British Legion laying a wreath at the village War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday.
For the last few years, as a special contribution from the Parish Council, a number of the familiar wooden crosses with the poppy prominently displayed will be made available to allow parishioners, who would like to remember a loved one who fought in any conflict since WW1, to have a family name added to one of these crosses. These will then be planted around the new village sign located in the centre of the community, directly opposite the village war memorial in advance of Armistice Day on the November 11th.
Sunday the 12th November, the traditional service of remembrance will take place at the village war memorial, followed by a church service at St. Mary’s church from 11.00.
Should you wish to have a family member who may have died in the fighting or perhaps survived the conflict but is now no longer with us, remembered by this simple act of a cross, we will need to know the person’s name, ideally their rank and to which service they served. All inscriptions will be written on the crosses for you by members of the Parish Council in readiness for planting.
The crosses are free to anyone living in Wroxham, but numbers are limited so, if you would like to remember someone in this way, please contact Cllr Peter Mantle who is coordinating the project, during the month of October.
