My angel! We’re out of love You bled me dry Sand and dust are falling from my veins My angel! I shared all the love I could spare When you ran out I took it back from others And locked it in our room My angel! We’re out of love You bled me dry My angel! I kept some hidden In my eyes Where you never look I shaped it into a knife To cut you loose My angel! You’re out of love I bled you dry

A Really Fucking Vulgar Guide to Not Losing Your Shit in College (Condensed Version)
Bitches love to put things into lists. Moreover, bitches love numbered shit. Here’s some numbered shit in list format to help you not suck in higher education. You’re welcome.
1. Go to class. Like 210% serious. I don’t give a shit if you’re a get by on nothing, A+ slacker. You’re fucking paying for this crap so you might as well get the services owed to you. Take your ass to class even if you zone out 99% of the time. You know 1% more than you did when you walked up in there. Congrats, asshole.
2. All that free time you have during your first week of classes? Make it your bitch. Don’t just print the goddamn syllabus and be like all done. No motherfucker. Take a good fucking look at that assignment list. What’s due next week? Yeah, do that shit now bc I know you don’t have anything else to do. Then when you’re coughing up a lung six weeks into the semester and don’t feel like getting your ass up to do that calculus homework, you’ll remember this week. You’ll remember that you’ve been a week ahead this whole damn semester. Pat yourself on the back, ass wipe.
3. Prepare yo self. No seriously. You got notes to print for class? Sure you could be like all those other bitches and just shove them into your backpack, or you could actually /prepare/ for class. I’m talking looking that shit over, identifying key concepts, getting a decent grasp of the material before your ass is even in class. You a STEM major? Yeah, make this kinda shit your life because now class is like one bomb ass group review session. Again, you’re welcome.
4. Snack like a motherfucker, but save that junk food shit for the weekends. From now on, you are a fucking health guru during the week or if you’re a slacker like me, at least on the days you have class. Fruits? Hell yeah. Pack some of those. Mind wandering in class? Snack on some apple slices. Can’t stay awake? Keep eating some almonds or some shit, but don’t be that bitch with the potato chips. Just don’t.
5. Read. Yeah, you heard me. Read and I’m not just talking assigned reading. I bet my left butt cheek that your campus library has /something/ of interest to you. Commuting and don’t want to drive out there? Library databases bro. We’re in the digital age, motherfucker. I’d bet my other butt cheek that the shit you want is in a nice little PDF somewhere. But na man, you thinking maybe you want to go into computer science? Check out computer science books and eat them up bro. You don’t like reading them? Probably not the field for you. You a biology major in your second year? Yeah dumbass. Time to break out the bio books and not the ones your professor is shoving in your face. Amaze your friends and teachers with your out of class knowledge. Be a fucking star.

concept: living in an apartment in a foreign city. the smell of the bakery down the street comes in through the open window and sunlight warms your back while you lay in bed with a cup of tea on the nightstand and your pet sleeping at your feet. in the next room is all the books you could ever read, but a few of your favorites are still scattered around your bedroom because you’re in the middle of reading them all again. music plays faintly. you are relaxed, happy, and the only thing you have to worry about is what you want to make for breakfast.

Some Unnecessary Study Necessities
A Good Place To Work:
1. Starbucks. The smell of coffee and the quiet chatter make it very peaceful while working. It provides some nice white noise and you can get coffee and tea. Perfect.
2. The library. Known for being quiet which can help with focusing. They also usually have printers and you’re surrounded by books for researching if need be.
3. My backyard. Not my backyard specifically, but sitting in the fresh air while doing homework can be relaxing. If you have outdoor tables/furniture, even better!
4. A friends house. Be careful though. A friend can either help you focus and you can work together, or they can be your biggest distraction.
5. My living room. You don’t have to leave the house the change your study space. Just sit at your dining table or couch and get out of your room for a bit.
Snacks:
1. Fresh fruit. My personal favorites are apple slices, grapes, raspberries or cherries. They’re mess free, and good for you.
2. Nuts. I love cashews. They’re super easy. You can even find them it small, individual packages to throw in your bag if you’re leaving the house.
3. Popcorn. Just plain ol salted popcorn. Mmm
Noises:
1. White noise. My go to. you can find playlists of white noise on Youtube, Spotify, or Pandora stations. There’s also an app called Tide which acts as a Pomodoro timer with white noise in the background.
2. Piano. I listen to the Piano in the Background or the Piano Bar playlists on Spotify because there’s no words to distract me.
3. Movie soundtracks. I like the ones from superhero movies because they put me in a kickass mood.
Of course you don’t really need snacks or background noise or whatever but it can make studying a bit more enjoyable. Just do what you need to do to get stuff done.

that’s right, friends, you don’t have to let your lack of access to photoshop prevent you from making cool things because we got canva on our side. they’re literally just drag and drop, and to make it even better, they just launched canva print, which means you can get some free prints here (hurry because it’s not gonna last long)
so that aside, let’s look at how they make designing easy as pie.
first of all, they got templates for everything
as you can see here, they got these default ones on top, but if you click more, you get a lot more. it’s a seriously long list so i didn’t bother taking a screenshot, but it’s seriously comprehensive! they even got tumblr banners and twitter banners so you can deck out your social media. and as you can see, i’ve used it to make posters for school too
Tumblr media
but today, i’ll work on replicating this blog post graphic in canva (i already got a photoshop template). i head over to custom dimensions just on top of resume and more because my graphics aren’t some nice ratio. px stands for pixels, but if you’re trying to print something, you can also use the millimeters and inches option
Tumblr media
so i head over to elements to get to the shapes option, and i clicked on the square, and voila, it’s loaded onto my design space
Tumblr media
but hmm, might actually be better for me to put my ahrtstudy down there first to figure out the sizing. i got my own custom layout but look at how pretty canva’s templates are on the left.
Tumblr media
i also just found a pretty color scheme so i’m gonna use it! i went to background to change the background color.
Tumblr media
now, as you can see, i’ve been tweaking the square into a rectangle the whole time. whenever you click on something in canva, it usually shows up those circles which you can use to resize things. i’ve just been clicking and dragging the whole time, people
Tumblr media
i’m gonna give that rectangle some color, and then i’ll hit copy to duplicate the shape, and change that new shape to white. so voila, we’re getting close!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so here’s time to add some text inside the box, and just look at those nice little guides canva gives you #bless
Tumblr media
so yeah, i positioned it, changed the alignment to left instead of center, and applied my usual settings. i changed the color too, along with ahrtstudy
Tumblr media
and we’re done! and this is essentially already a template already in canva, so next time, you could just make a copy of the original, change the colors and text and just hit download and be on your way to posting here on tumblr
but seriously, it’s not just for tumblr. you can make cool presentations with a+ charts. the gradient is automatic and there are so many chart styles, from pie graphs to venn diagrams, you could walk in your presentation and make everything as pastel af
Tumblr media
you can also share it as a website (?!!) with the cutest little animations and it is the bomb dot com. you can check out the graph above as a website here, with another graph just under it
and if you’re tired of boring resumes, well, never fear, canva is here. they got who knows how many templates for you to edit (and if you wanna impress your boss by sending it in thick paper, canva print is there to help you too)
Tumblr media
like i am seriously excited to go off and print a resume or a business card because nothing is cooler than getting to hold your own design in real life. so i seriously hope this helps, and if you think this was helpful, reblogging would be awesome

How to get straight A’s in college. Seriously.
Yes, even if you’re taking the maximum credit load. Because if I can do it, you can do it too. Note: My credit load also included a handful of honors courses.
Side-note: I’m going to be a junior (how??) and an RA (!!!) in the fall. Life moves fast. College moves faster. Anyways,
Here are my top tips:
1. LOOK AT THE SYLLABUS AND WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN. This is step number one, and it’s not up for debate. If you do this, there’ll be no surprises, and if there are: point it out to the professor (a simple, ??? this wasn’t on the syllabus ??, usually works). Also, you have to check and see what constitutes as an A in that class. Sometimes it’s a 90, sometimes it’s not. (a 96 was an A- in one of my classes last semester. I’m so serious.)
2. Get a calendar. Not a planner. One of those giant calendars with puppies or something on it and write down everything you have to do for the month. Put it above your desk. This helps A LOT because you can see everything you have coming up for the next few weeks, instead of jus playing it day-by-day.
3. It is OK to use ratemyprofessor. Sometimes it can be really helpful, but pay attention to the more in depth reviews that talk about what the homework, tests, quizzes and projects are like (instead of “her lectures are boring :///)
4. Sit in the front of your class. You’ll be more likely to pay attention and less likely to scroll through instagram. (by the way, mine is @parissdb :) It also grabs your professors attention, so even if you’re shy, they’ll at least know your face.
5. Do that extra credit. A lot of professors offer it in the beginning of the semester, and hardly anyone does it because no one’s thinking past tomorrow. It may be what saves you in the long run.
6. Figure out your best method of note-taking. For me, it’s good ol pen and paper. It helps me remember everything. Some people prefer typing it out. This is beneficial bc it makes it easier for you to find exactly what you’re looking for. (Thank you, command + F)
7. Put your effort into the percentages. If an assignment is worth 1% of your grade, do it well, but don’t exhaust yourself. It’s 1%!!!! If it comes down to it, spend more time studying for that exam that’s worth 30% than the group project worth 20.
8. Please. Stop studying what you already know. We’re all guilty of it. It makes you feel better knowing you have chapters 1-3 down, even if you don’t know 4-7. The key to studying is to learn what you don’t know.
9. Learn how to study. (Yes, it’s actually a skill that has to be learned.) I’m the biggest procrastinator I know, especially when it comes to studying. But I’ve found that studying 2 days before an exam usually does the trick for me. I create a master study guide during day 1 and study it all on day 2. Depending on what time the exam is, I may review on the morning of day 3.
10. SAVE SOME TIME FOR FUN ffs. Seriously. You don’t have to study 24/7, and I don’t know about y’all but my attention span was not built for that.
I might add more to this later, or make another post because I could give these tips for ever and ever. But hopefully this helps someone out there.
Be sure to check out my college tab here:(http://thesoontobenewyorker.tumblr.com/tagged/college) and follow me on instagram @parissdb (https://www.instagram.com/parissdb/) for more stuff. :)
