This is something I worked on over the weekend. I want to shoot for an art style that makes everything look painted so I figured I’d go with some low-poly trees. I think this one might be a little too low-poly but I’ll probably be able to use it still. These trees have some color variation in the leaves, based on the tutorial here:

I like the idea of making the illusion of highlights and I kind of like the look, but we’ll see if it works well on other tree shapes and once I eventually figure out the lighting in the world and such. The way the leaves are layered might also not translate that well when looking up from the ground, which is the perspective this game will have, so I will need to experiment more.

Long break finished, although I never really did much with these posts, so here we go....
Right now I’m working on creating all the nature assets that will go into a forest level/prototype/thingy I’m making. Never really did any painting before now either so I am learning that along the way as well. This image was the result of following the tutorial here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpVylUDyYuQ
Very useful overall. The main trick I learned from this was the use of multiply and screen layers over a base texture, so everything you paint has the same noisy, rough look to it as what you start with.
Although after using this texture over some terrain in Unity I immediately saw some of the issues with what I made. I think the colors I used were too saturated for what I was going for and there isn’t much color variation. Also the details I added were too high resolution compared to the rest of the painting so they really stuck out like a million sore thumbs when I tiled this over a large area. I’ll try making some better textures tomorrow now that I have a better feel of what to do.

Massteroid was a game I worked on back in college. Basically you control a giant asteroid (or pizza) and you try to crash into as much space debris as possible so you can get as big as possible and cause as much destruction as possible when you crash to earth.
I made all the sound effects and the soundtrack which you can listen to above. Here’s the video trailer that our production company made, although I’m not really sure if that’s the right term for them haha, they basically ported our game project to mobile and did all the business-y stuff:

My favorite part was working on the pizza mode and making the cheesy Italian music to go with it (pun intended).

In the beginning...
Since I am just starting this now, I’ll be posting about some of my older projects that I have worked on in the past. But these will all be on top of the weekly post I plan to make for any of the new things I work on. Time to dig through all those old files...
