Honestly the Murderbot show is doing a great job showing the difference its helmet makes. At first I thought they’d want it down most of the show so we could see Alexander’s face (ya know, because they hired an actor and not a stunt double), but it’s really becoming clear that the helmet being on or off is part of the story. And honestly helmet!Murderbot IS significantly scarier.
Murderbot with its helmet on (especially with the robotic voice treatment) is a (literally) faceless killing machine, and no one knows what it’s going to do next. Murderbot with its helmet off is a perpetually confused, anxious, and stressed person who wants to get this over with so it can go back to its shows and be left alone.
This adds a lot of nuance to whenever the PresAux team asks/begs it to take its helmet off. The team desperately needs to gauge its “human” facial expressions in order to feel safe vs. please god let me stay in my helmet if they see all my involuntary facial reactions they’re going to Ask About My Feelings again.
#murderbot tv#murderbot show#the murderbot diaries#so glad we get helmet action#love the expressive head cocking#and I have to EAT the clicky sounds the helmet makes when it retracts

David Dastmalchian opens up about his character in Murderbot: grief, gore and the machine behind Gurathin

Few actors have carved a niche as unmistakable as David Dastmalchian. Known for playing haunted men, outcasts and monsters with a raw, unnerving intimacy, he has become a recurring presence in the shadows, not as a cliché, but as someone who lives there, who understands them.
In Murderbot, Apple TV+’s strange and tender blend of sci-fi, drama and satire, he plays Gurathin, a prickly, enhanced human who mistrusts the titular robot and refuses to let peace come easy. But what might have been just another antagonistic role becomes, through David Dastmalchian’s performance, something deeper: a vessel for his own grief, history, and healing.
Beneath the sarcasm and suspicion, Gurathin vibrates with trauma. And so does David Dastmalchian. In a recent interview, he spoke with rare honesty about how this character brought him face to face with his past, not in metaphor, but in performance. The result is one of the most intimate roles of his career. A mix of human and machine, yes, but one that bleeds in all the ways that matter.

Summary:
Distantly, Gurathin remembered the union snipers on the upper floors, the drone clouds they’d all coded in case of emergency. The dull ache of his body, sharper on the side of his head, was fighting the painkillers he’d gotten loaded on beforehand. His feed was a panorama of warnings and the empty boxes of blocked ads. He was cannon fodder with no actual conviction, an indentured systems engineer with expensive augments. The SecUnit advancing over his sprawled shape hadn’t come for him - Not really.

You know you're past the point of no return when you're stubbornly it/its -ing a program, in a language that is devoid of gender neutral pronouns, and going "R Studio is so gender"
Me, crashing on 4 hours of sleep in my 9am statistics seminar, biting my lip at the screen: It's like, a logical thinker y'know? That's hot

My gift for the 2024 MBD gift exchange!! This is for @silverstreams , the prompt was "Murderbot and ART get into an argument over something silly/stupid, and the crew is trying their best to not get pulled in but get pulled in anyway," which made me think of one thing: the classic wicked witch of the east audio.

(through gritted teeth) sometimes what's good for your mental health isn't another do nothing day or a little treat sometimes what's good for you is putting in some of the work. Not all of it at once but sometimes you have to finish that essay or at least take the next step or you have to clean your room or at least dust the shelves or you gotta do the laundry or at least put it all in the hamper and it's not fun and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks but you have to because i read a post on the internet that told me that's what being nice to yourself is sometimes

@gamebird spotted this moment in episode 5
Gurathin reaches out as if to touch SecUnit, then pulls his hand away…

That hand definitely has black nail polish…

God damn it. The things I would give to see a younger Gurathin being in his babybat days. Full on trad-goth, white pancake, before he discovers that you don't have to be trad to silence the gatekeepers. Thanks Mr. Dastmalchian

Murderathin prompt incoming!
Finally being convinced to explore sex, SecUnit acquires male genitalia (removable or not) just to top Gurathin. While doing so it experiences the unexpected, forbidden thrill of the tables being turned--having visceral power and control over a human. And the sexual rush of that is unexpected. (and that human in question begging for it) And. It's not sure how to feel about this.
dksjglsjd I SEE WE'RE STARTING STRONG IN THIS FANDOM and I'm not complaining thank u Piper you're a real one. Putting it behind a cut tho so I don't get devoured by a horde of angry anons.
340 words, Explicit.
------
It wasn't that different, it reasoned, of the first time it had Gurathin at its mercy.
He was staring up at it with glazed eyes and parted lips, barely breathing and desperate for its next movement. The flush on his skin was different, though — Deeper, tinted with a sheen of sweat. His legs wrapped around its waist, those were different too.
(Fuck its entire life, why had it agreed to this.)
"Please", Gurathin begged at last. His human was proud, alright, one would say it was one of his worst flaws, and Murderbot was reeling. He was locking his ankles behind its back, arching and squirming as if he could get its strap any deeper inside.
Maybe the fact it didn't need the sex but had sought it anyway, to own and break and have full control of this man in a way nobody else could… Maybe that made it worse.
Or the fact it had forgotten silicone was conductive.
But it hadn't planned to participate from this up close. Between their connection through the feed and sheer electricity, though, Murderbot was now feeling every little twitch and the way Gurathin was practically fucking himself on its strap, oh-so-tight, and incapable of waiting for its stupid hips to start moving.
This wasn't different, come on, (come the fuck on), of the first time it had choked Gurathin. Or the first time it had let the other man get off to its words (from far away). Or the first time it had kissed him. Or the…
This should've made it feel on top of the world. Slippery slopes were so fucking real.
By the time it started thrusting Murderbot was definitely pissed off. Driving its hard cock inside Gurathin shouldn't be making it feel hungry. Shouldn't be clouding its own reason. Shouldn't be making it feel this good, overheating, panting against Gurathin's mouth like any of this was effort, overwhelmed by pleasure.
At least it was making him scream and lose control. Broken in — Like it owned him.
Still a victory.

Broke: Gurathin dislikes SecUnit because he’s aware of how dangerous secunits can be
Woke: Gurathin dislikes SecUnit because it keeps cockblocking his emotional moments with Mensah

i feel like the youth should be reminded that the point of shipping is not for a ship to become canon. the point of shipping is to collect all the canon crumbs like starved mice, run away cackling and make some fun little scenarios with them just for the hell of it.
