Arthurian Legend Tumblr is so strange because you guys are unironically having discourse about one guy and his big ass lunch table of other guys who aren't real.

See, you get it. 😭
Not kick a hornets nest but....
A lot of interpretations of Heathcliff that characterize him as being inherently wild and vaguely inhuman feel kinda racist sometimes. Maybe I'm being oversensitive but it doesn't sit right with me how I've seen characterizations like that be so common on literary Tumblr.

Jane Austen really said ‘I respect the “I can fix him” movement but that’s just not me. He’ll fix himself if knows what’s good for him’ and that’s why her works are still calling the shots today.

Good God I wish this would happen
Wuthering Heights adaptation but it covers the full book, correctly casts Heathcliff and shows the trauma he went through as a child properly.

I think Emily was anti Christian. saying "all sinners would be miserable in heaven" I think she's a rebel of her time. Your thoughts?
I completely agree that Emily was a rebel of her time, and there's a lot that can be made of the religious comments and imagery within Wuthering Heights. I'm not sure if I would go as far as to say she was anti Christian. There are definitely elements that reject the ideas of the time.
"all sinners would be miserable in heaven" is representation of the attitudes of the time. Heaven was supposed to be the ultimate goal for everyone, they were supposed to live a good honest life to get to heaven. Therefore sinners would not have a good place in heaven.
But the context behind this line is rejecting that concept. Cathy was miserable in heaven. She "broke her heart for weeping" and the angels "flung her out onto the heath atop wuthering heights" (these aren't accurate quotes, they're from memory). It's clear from this dream that Cathy at least is rejecting heaven as the ultimate goal. For her, her ultimate goal is much more earthly, based in tangible things - her home and Heathcliff.
Interesting she's not the only one to reject it. Heathcliff does as well. When he's talking about getting revenge on Hindley, Nelly comments that "its for God to punish wicked people" and Heathcliff retorts that "God won't have the satisfaction I will". And much later in the book Heathcliff talks of almost reaching his heaven, something that bears no resemblence to the Christian one he "should" be aiming for.
There's probably other key moments as well that I can't think of right now because the book is teeming with religious imagery that isn't necessarily how it would be expected.
However, the important thing to consider is that Emily isn't her characters. And both Cathy and Heathcliff comes to an untimely end. Cathy makes herself ill/her body can't cope with the pregnancy, and Heathcliff essentially gives up on life when his revenge plans stop working. So there's no sign that this "ungodly" life is one that Emily is championing either.
I definitely think an argument can be made for Emily disagreeing with the ways of religion around her though, which is especially interesting given her father was a Parson/vicar

I actually think it's sort of wild how Wuthering Heights can't really take place in any other time. Trying to do an adaptation of Wuthering Heights that takes place in the modern day just wouldn't really work. At least not the same as a modern day Pride and Prejudice would.
Wuthering Heights is entirely confined to the time period of its text. In a way that most classics aren't from what I can see.

Speaking of Wuthering Heights
In my time of reading the actual novel, I became highly interested in drawing and designing the entire cast of Wuthering Heights.
I wanted to start with Heathcliff and essentially designing the rest of the cast in contrast to him. However, I have yet to actually be satisfied with any of my renditions. Nevertheless, allow me to walk you through my various designs of Heathcliff.
I will not show my first iteration because It is somewhat embarrassing
Number one (Technically number 2): mid-2019, initially done in FireAlpaca
Tumblr media
You can tell I was a bit of a beginner at digital art here. I was very confused by the colors and all of the settings.
What I plan on keeping:
-The long to medium length hair.
-Gold eyes mostly because I feel they add a mystery to his appearance.
Number two(technically 3): late 2019, done in clip studio paint
Tumblr media
- I don't necessarily think there's anything wrong with this iteration but I just feel like he doesn't emulate his descriptions in the book.
-the facial anatomy needs work but I get better at that much later down the line.
-However, I feel like he doesn't look like Heathcliff to be quite honest.
Thoughts and Opinions are very much welcome(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
