so the magical girl and boy plot (this got long so here’s a read more!)

Details are still a little sketchy since the Big Bads are not fleshed out yet, but the main deal of Shimmering Dawn is that there are two generations of magical girls: the first one that technically failed their mission and the second one that got roped into cleaning up the mess. Both generations are based on that one day rhyme that goes:

Monday's child is fair of face / Tuesday's child is full of grace / Wednesday's child is full of woe / Thursday's child has far to go / Friday's child is loving and giving / Saturday's child works hard for his living / And the child that is born on the Sabbath day / Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.

The first generation is made up of Yoru (Shimmering Sunday), Jerrica (Shimmering Tuesday), and Mayu (Shimmering Wednesday), along with the fairy yullie, Hemera. While they were all enthusiastic (perhaps a little too enthusiastic in Sunday & Tuesday’s case) about their mission to stop some unnamed general idk yet, they were, unfortunately, held back by Sunday and Tuesday Constantly butting heads and squabbling over leadership, leaving Wednesday to pull most of the weight. This, combined with the rest of the stress in her life (because oh man did Wednesday embody that Child of Woe thing), eventually caused Wednesday to reach a breaking point. Wednesday snagged the vague magic staff dealy that is important in unknown ways currently from that unnamed general and kicked them to the curb and more or less declared herself the new enemy, intent on dragging everyone else down with her. Sunday and Tuesday (eventually) managed to put their differences aside and were able to seal Wednesday away, though this fractured their already vitriolic friendship to the point where they went their separate ways afterwards.

Since that seal was, admittedly, uh, not up to their usual standards due to their hearts not quite being into sealing away one of their former bffs, Wednesday was able to break free after only ten years and immediately restarted her horrible quest for destruction!! Probably. At least that is what Yoru and Jerrica assumed when they felt the seal break and immediately jumped back into action to find a new generation of magical kids to clean up their mess! I mean, finish their quest. Yes. They both made a beeline for whatever random teen they felt had the most magic potential and happened to find the same kid, Tana, though Jerrica reached her first, much to Yoru’s eternal chagrin. Not to be outdone, Yoru grabbed the nearest kid in the vicinity because THAT was who she was actually after the whole time, yes, hahaha!!

In what would be a shocking swerve of events to anyone who wasn’t already aware both Yoru and Jerrica are idiots, neither of these kids were great picks. Tana’s massive potential had nothing to do with being a magical girl and was entirely due to her being an ice witch, a fact she is desperately trying to keep hidden because of her aunt’s prior warnings that magical girls hate witches and would probably murder her on sight. WHICH might have been a bald-faced lie considering her aunt is awful and fond of those For The Drama, but it’s too late for that now and Tana is stuck trying to use her witch magic to fake being a real magical girl named Shimmering Friday. It’s probably a good thing Jerrica is blind.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, the kid Yoru chose, Skelli AKA Shimmering Thursday now, barely has any potential at all and can barely function as a magical boy. In fact, he spends most of his time running away from his duties (often literally) only to get dragged back by Yoru (also often literally) since she refuses to give up on him becoming a valiant hero of LOVE & JUSTICE despite his jumpy and awkward demeanor. It hasn’t been going great.

But hey, that’s ok since instead of wreaking havoc, Wednesday instead decided to retire after having ten years to reflect on herself and her actions and realizing the entire thing was kinda dumb in retrospect. Absolutely no one believes her and her poor minions keep getting beat up on their way to get groceries and whatever else for her but that’s just how it goes sometimes. Good thing there’s no looming threat in the background of the real big bad who has had a decade to complete her Nefarious Plans virtually unimpeded or else things might get a little bad.

SO, I didn’t actually mention Rosa in any of that and that is because the entire first gen was cut short and she was never recruited. :’) She is actually the daughter of the big bad but she never got her Redemption Arc and has also been stuck in this world for the last ten years but idk what she’s been doing in that time yet lol but she would have been the Real Shimmering Friday

I also still need to: flesh out the big bad in general, decide what the fairy Hemera has been doing, figure out the missing Monday & Saturday characters yet but that’s the gist so far anyway
