I don’t think the existence of “scenemo” as its own thing means that emo and scene always have to be synonymous. They are very distinct, but there’s culture overlap, and scene wouldn’t exist without emo. Scenemo, emo, and scene can all co-exist the way red, blue, and purple are all completely different colors.

In the same sort of conversation I DO hate ppl calling scene “bright emo” or “happy emo”, which is worse and directly conflating scene with emo (if they’re serious and not jk). Ppl who make everything a “core” or “aesthetic” tend to do that which is very annoying.

Anyone else kinda hate the term “scemo”? Scene and Emo are two very distinct subcultures, and by mashing them together as if they’re synonymous it just waters them down further. You can be Emo and Scene, but treat them as two separate cultures/identities, because they’re nowhere near the same thing.
