“Master?” The title felt absolutely foreign coming from Larxene’s lips and Xehanort couldn’t help but laugh at hearing it. It didn’t suit her, but of course it wasn’t something she meant. She held no true allegiance to him. This was all a means to an end - an end that had to involve a certain pink-haired man if she was involved.
Larxene’s relationship with Marluxia was a fascinating one to him - one he couldn’t say he fully understood but certainly he did long to. Remnants of the ancient keyblade legacy... but you could not draw blood from a stone, and he could not gain knowledge from those who had blinded themselves to the truth of their pasts.
“Even if I did, can you truly say you would care? If ever there were to be a Nobody who truly lacked a Heart, you would fit that description. Is there any part of you that would mourn the loss of something you care naught for?”
Tumblr media
@xanother   ⚡   asked:   “I can trust you would never try to -plot- behind my back.” He’s smiling as he’s speaking, but it doesn’t touch his eyes. “It would be a shame if you did. It would be a shame to find need to replace you.”
Tumblr media
Well that’s stupid of you,  was what she wanted to say.   Once was a mistake,  twice was just FOOLISH.   She pursed her lips as her golden eyes considered how to reply.   What a SHAME it would be to get herself kicked out so far in the game and be comparable to someone as incompetent as Demyx.   “   As much as I can trust that you won’t lead us to slaughter,  Master.  ”    Sarcasm soaked her words,  A KNOWING LOOK upon her features.   She was means to an end,  and he was the same to her.   Why act as though anything else was true ???

He couldn't deny there was a small sliver of pleasure in seeing just how unenthusiastic Sora was to see him. Even if he couldn't remember just who Xehanort was, there was no doubt that some part of him, the deepest parts that even he knew better than to think could be fully erased, knew just who exactly was approaching him. An innate primal sensation that was being covered up with all the wonderful trappings of this beautiful distraction of a world.
"Please, you do not have to worry about troubling yourself for me." He gave a wave of his hand in a feeble attempt to try to set Sora's mind at ease. There was nothing here that Xehanort would want.
As he spoke the man slowly walked through the small shop. Coffetree Cafe... Was a horrible name.
"I was told about this place from someone... dear to me. I simply wanted to visit to see if it truly was everything he had claimed."
Sora was very glad it had been a slow day. He was still wrestling with the nightmare he had. He couldn't remember anything but how it made him felt.
The shop was nearly completely dead. Only himself and a college student who seemed hellbent on cramming a whole months worth of lecture in one night occupied the space.
Wiping down the counter he glanced to the clock. Not much longer now till he could go home. Something he was eternally grateful for right now.
He dropped the rag into the sani bucket under the counter and glanced up with a large smile when the bell rang.
"Welcome..."
He recognized this man but from where Sora did not know. It was only when he spoke that Sora recognized. Oh. Great. Someone with importance in a tiny coffee shop. In Sora's tiny coffee shop.
"Welcome to the Coffeetree Cafe. How can I help you?"
Sora would have absolutely passed on helping if his coworker hadn't left for their break already. He was the only on running the entire shop as of right now.

"What is it that you hoped to find here?" Here in this empty facade of a world, in a place that existed beyond dreams and reality. Quadratum.
Of course - that was assuming their fairy-tale existed was the place that was born from true reality, and not just another layer of the endless entanglement of lies that all keyblade masters were constantly told.
Xehanort had his suspicions but he doubted it would be hard to pry confirmation of the truth from Riku. For all his talk of not fearing the light and his desire to move past the sins of his past, it was all-too easy to see they still existed as a constant shackle around the young man's throat. So easy to see... so easy to use.

The young man in front of him bore a strong resemblance to Riku, but Xehanort knew better than to believe he truly was Riku. Not the real one, at the very least. Another puppet perhaps, though last he had heard Vexen's experiments with those lifeless dolls had been nothing more than an abject failure. Not to mention there was something... else about him that felt equal parts unfamiliar and irritatingly known.
"Who was it that breathed life into your form?" It was not possible that he could have come into existence through any natural means. It was doubtful that this knowledge would be of any use to Xehanort, but he had also learned long ago to never discount the strange possibilities he could discover in the most surprising of places.

"Yet another pathetic failure." This Sora - if he could even be called Sora - was certainly unlike any of the others that Xehanort had encoutered before. Something had gone so very wrong for him at some point, and he couldn't help but wonder if he - if another version of himself - had played a roll in it. If so-- fascinating.
It made this thing before him no less of a failure, but Xehanort would certainly love to learn more about what another version of himself had been thinking to create such a monstrosity.
His hands were locked tightly behind his back as Xehanort paced around the young man, taking care to stay outside of whatever reach his hands (if they could be called that) would have. "How much of your mind is even left? Do you even remember who you are?"

"I do not believe I know you."
His voice was calm - smooth and easy - but there was no denying the way the man's eyes were slightly narrowed with an expression of something a bit more intense than curiosity dancing behind his gaze. His hands were locked tightly behind his back and, dressed in the casual business attire, he looked almost harmless. Little more than a curious old man trying to greet a young woman and help her feel at home.
The building she had stepped inside was a business center in the heart of Quadratum. It was where he called home now, orchestrating his manipulations of the Warriors of Light from the single place that no one would ever think to look.
"What is your name, young lady?"

"You are not as skilled at holding back your emotions as you may think you are."
Xehanort spoke without facing Xigbar, instead choosing to stare out a large window in the oversized office he had taken for himself. How easily he had found himself able to fit into this role he had taken, the mantle of the kind and wise figure meant to guide this City into a better future.
Sometimes he could almost convince himself that was all he was truly doing.
"You despise me for what I am doing. You cannot see the wisdom in my actions anymore."
And a sigh.
"Such a pity."

He would have known this young man no matter what form he took. Sora's heart would always be a blindingly-powerful force that was seared into Xehanort's memory and his very being. The failed vessel. The one who had been meant to be the 13th Darkness, and the one who had failed to save the rest of the Warriors of Light in the Keyblade Graveyard.
There had been another path that their timeline could have walked down. Riku's sacrifice was needed, but so too was Sora's, and Xehanort was not sure which one of them had failed to properly play their part in this timeline, but there had been no great act of mercy to pluck the keyblade bearer's Hearts free from the death providing by the Lich.
No mercy save for Xehanort's own - and mercy not a word one could truly use to describe his decision.
It was inevitable that Sora would be remade in any world that Riku walked in, but that didn't mean they were ever meant to meet. That their paths should have ever crossed. But Fate was almost as stubborn as Xehanort himself and Fate was not to be defied.
This bearer was just as helpless as Riku, and it would have been easy enough to end him had Xehanort not been confined to a role that required him to... keep his hands clean. A serviceman to the City could not be found assaulting a child. And perhaps... he could be useful. Without his memories...
It was near-closing in the small cafe that Sora was working at when Xehanort entered. He looked every bit the part of dignified politician, dressed in a dark suit and tie. He did look ever so slightly out of place in a relaxed cafe, but... it was hardly enough to make his presence here suspicious.
"What an adorable little store. I cannot believe I haven't visit before. I do so enjoy frequently... the small businesses of this great City."

"And waste my effort on you?" No. As much as Xehanort disliked his younger self, engaging in a battle would be... pointless. He may have had more experience and skill, but there would be no denying that Xeha possessed the younger, healthier body.
For now.
"Perhaps at a later date. In a time and place outside of the realms of light and dark. Once I am finished, even such trivalities as shifting through worldlines will no longer be an obstacle. I see no reason why your existence will matter then."
There is a long pause after the elder speaks, the younger staring at him for a touch longer than would be socially acceptable. There's almost a touch of shock on his face.
That doesn't last, however, as he bursts into maniacal laugher. His arms drop to hold onto his stomach, shoulders shaking with uncontrollable laughter at the absurdity of the situation.
Figures that his own older self would tell him to kill himself. That was just perfect.
Once he finally calms enough to speak, he straightens up to look at his older self again, the fanged grin he gives him dripping sardonic.
"Do it yourself, if I'm really so useless."

"They are your plans as well, or have you already forgotten the path you decided to walk upon?"
He stared at his younger self before smiling, the expression uncurling in a manner remiscent of a snake coiling back to strike.
"Is that truly how you feel? Then, by all means--" Xehanort gestured toward the young man.
"End yourself."
Xeha can't help but roll his eyes as the other speaks, expression going from lackluster to bored in a matter of seconds. Disappointment, purpose, it was all the same regurgitated lecture he'd heard at Scala time and time again.
"I'll find the determination when you give me something worthwhile to fuel it. From where I'm standing, your plans are little more than some crazed old man's delusions of grandeur taking flight. The fact alone that I'm to become you has me considering taking up diving practice off a clock tower."
Crossing his arms over his chest, he cocks his head at his older self, "I see no reason to prove you wrong. You're no better than the masters at Scala, blaming everyone but yourself for your shortcomings."

"Oh, but I did think it through. And with every step of the way, the only time there was any success to my plan was when I took action myself." He shook his head and gestured with one hand, the other arm bent firmly behind his back.
"I asked for you to accomplish one small thing for me. To erase that child's heart and replace it with darkness. And even that you failed to fulfill."
The only actions that ever bore any success were the ones enacted by Xehanort in his original timeline. Truthfully, had he not required reaching the full number of thirteen to complete the True Organization, he wasn't sure if his younger self would have served any purpose.
He sighed, free hand moving to be clasped by his other behind his back. "One would hope you would find yourself filled with determination to prove me wrong, but I fear you lack even the discipline for that level of self-reflection."
there's a message -- [@xanother] "Out of all the failures and disappointments in my life, you are... by far the greatest of them all." So much potential and all of it -wasted-. The fact that the statement was a direct reflection of Xehanort himself wasn't missed on the Master, but every poor decision, ever failed attempt, all could be traced back to the path his younger self had decided to walk on. "Such a waste..."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sound of his future self chiding in his ear is truly enough to make anyone go insane, he thinks. The words are harsh, but not enough to bring him to care more than mild annoyance.
"It sounds to me like you should have perhaps thought this through, hm? Prepared for every eventuality, and yet here we are, in the wake of our failures."

Hello! This blog is an AU version of Xehanort written post-kh3. This blog is a sideblog to @blindwielder and is attached the that very same AU. You do not need to be writing with that Riku to have Xehanort be a certified Bastard Man to your character, but there are likely still going to be references to things that occur with that Riku.
Heyo. This is Sparks. I'm a 25+ y/o who works full time M-F and I enjoy RPing from time to time.
I don't send in passwords - sorry!
Because I work M-F I can be pretty sparse when it comes to being on the dash. I try to limit how much time I'm there. I do tend to put up inbox calls so please take advantage of them if you'd like asks. I try to avoid reblogging too many asks or memes myself mostly because it can easily be overwhelming.
This blog is OC friendly in that I, Sparks, enjoy OCs. Xehanort is another matter. He will treat them just as poorly as any canon character.
This AU is a spoiler to KH3. Please read with care.
Xehanort is a bastard man and none of that will be sugarcoated here. He has done awful things and he will continue to do awful things. This blog does not exist to redeem him. This blog exists to write a bastard man who is willing to do anything he needs to in order to accomplish his goals, and torturing children is on that list.
Please assume that triggering topics can come up. Child abuse, mental and emotional and physical abuse, gaslighting, manipulation, and an utter lack of regard towards the well-being of anyone else are all par for the coarse. Anything more explicit, such as blood or gore or usage of common triggering items like blades or needles, will be tagged. Absolutely nothing sexual will occur here.
AU information will be below the cut due to spoilers.
In this AU, Riku - and potentially others - die and are not saved by Sora. Xehanort is not defeated, but his plan doesn't succeed either. Instead Xehanort takes what remains of Riku's heart and flees to Quadratum.
His current goal is to use Riku as a vessel in order to gain more time to start anew, and in order to not have Riku fight back as a vessel Xehanort has rewritten his memories so that Riku believes himself to be Xehanort's child, and is also in the process of shattering Riku's will so that nothing remains once his heart is taken.
