Understanding

Hurt/Comfort, Urami Kuga & Teri Blume, Platonic Affection

Both of them were just tired from the aftermath of the recent fight, thankfully the art of healing is able to heal the woods from the attack. However, mental scars will always stay. The two were conversing in Urami's room, where they decided to take refuge for now. Teri starts to overthink about her parents and legacy while sitting on the bed.

"I love them....so so much. That's why I can't fail. I can't fail them. I can't settle for less despite it all. I can’t indulge in my feelings or else it'll take control of me. Bad things can happen if I lose myself while trying to protect Norrisville..." Teri starts to speak faster, her breathing accelerating. One of her legs bounces restlessly as she sits.

"What if when I lost the battle, they would replace me? Believing that I can't win the war?" She shudders her breath, head in hands as she clutches her hair.

"I will bring dishonour to the family, and cause their hard work to be in ruins. Everything they worked hard for up until this moment, all for naught. I can't let myself be weak, or else the enemy would win...and it would be inglorious of me, and I would be a failure and bring shame to everyone—"

A soft touch as a hand is at her shoulder. She jolts from her position to blurrily see Urami with a concerned face.

"Teri. Can you hear me? Take a deep breath."

..

"Now hold it."

...

"Now exhale, slowly."

..

"Do it again. Breathe in deep..."

"Can you list 5 things you can sense?" Urami speaks up after they repeat the breathing exercise. He is holding her hands with his own, gaze unfaltering.

"...I can see the cat poster. I can feel...the ground..” Teri starts, firmly planting both of her feet onto the floor.

"Very good, three more things."

"I can hear...your voice. And... Your hand in mine.. and...my mouth feels… dry." Teri says before smacking his lips a bit. She makes a face of discomfort.

Urami passes her a water bottle from his bag. She grabs, raising an eyebrow towards him.

"...do you just keep this in your magic purse or something?"

"They call me Mary Poppins." The older boy deadpans.

Teri could only let out a smirk with a suppressed 'snrk'.

"While it's nice that you are taking your job seriously, it's not good if you end up neglecting yourself. You say you don't want your emotions to take control, but by suppressing it, you'll let your inner wound fester."

Urami swipes a thumb as he holds her hand, soothing her.

"I made a mistake of letting it be bottled up as well. The best thing you can do is to talk about it and try not to take too much. You'd think by drowning yourself in work would stop the noises and endless chatter in your end, but in the end they wear you down as well as your body."

He hears Teri sniffling a bit, pulling the side of her to make her lean against his shoulder.

"I know this is important to you, that's why it's okay to let someone in."

Urami hugs her tight, and then his hand patting her back and the other is still holding her.

"Feeling vulnerability and accepting help and care is just as courageous. You don't have to be alone in your journey to uphold the legacy. We're also your family, okay?"

Urami swipes away Teri's tears, his hand stays on her cheek as he kisses her forehead softly. He gives a watery smile towards her.

"We love you, and we'll be there for you every step of the way.”
