Celebrating the New Year wasn't always Rita's favorite thing to do. It was always the same thing: watered-down drinks, dropping balls, poppers and blowers, lather, rinse, repeat the next year. The only thing that separated one year from the other was a shitty celebration. However, this year felt different. This year felt more meaningful. Even if he was celebrating while they were at work, it made it all the more fun.

"-- Nine, eight, seven --"

Rita grinned as the queens and customers all around chanted together, eyes on the television hanging over the bar. Usually, the club was enthusiastic all on its own, but New Year's made it one big party. In a way, it felt refreshing.

His gaze then traveled to the young queen beside him -- and for a moment, he felt his heart flutter. Mari was clearly enjoying himself (er, herself) with a drink in hand and a wide, radiant smile. She looked so ditzy, so dumb, so adorable--

-- Rita couldn't help himself. He snagged Mari by the waist and pulled her close, pressing their lips together. Perhaps he should have stopped at a simple peck, but he couldn't. The building tension finally boiled over, and he found himself lost in the excitement (and alcohol) buzzing in his veins. Finally, after a moment, he pulled back -- and to his surprise, he felt himself grinning.
