little else could      wound Jiang Cheng as deeply as the thought of earning the disdain of his siblings.    he could be callous,    downright unkind    at the slightest provocation;    the question lay in just how long the other two would bear his   volatile temperament   ?     though he had never once acted as such with his sister,    would she continue to tolerate the   shame   of his behavior  ?   and what of his brother  ?    surely one day their childish quarrels would scorch what was left of Wei Wuxian’s patience and he would decide to be done with him entirely.    such were the   dreadful nightmares   that plagued him with their parasitic affliction in the aftermath of every argument,    gnawing at his innards until anxiety seemed the only fitting sustenance for one so   rabid and hateful   as he.    

it was a shame he could never learn the lesson,   doomed to imminent explosion in this damned cycle of   fight and forgive   they seemed to be stuck in.    Jiang Cheng awaits with ample tension the verdict of his brother,    sharp countenance molded in something too   contrite   to suit the casual arrogance of his usual self.      

perhaps he doesn’t expect forgiveness to come so    soon,     shock evident in the widening of grey eyes and soft part of lips previously thinned with concern.    he stares at Wei Wuxian in that    relentless    manner of his that fails to dissipate even in circumstances where it should,    at the very least,   waver out of propriety,     the weight of his palm against his shoulder feels simultaneously like the   greatest comfort   and the   heaviest burden.     his words warm something in his heart,     the fickle limb jolting at such genuine reassurance.     ‘    i forget why we even fought to begin with.    ’     his response is   bitter with regret,     rueful of whatever seemed so trivial now that had been,   at the moment of    calamity,   their undoing. ‘    you must know that,   no matter what we fight about,    it   won’t ever   be   more important   than our bond.    ’    

He knew he could never compare to what Jiang Cheng was ─ Who he was going to be ─ As son of the Yunmeng Jiang Sect Leader, Jiang Cheng was always destined for greatness, and Wei Wuxian knew that. No matter how much familial love and trust has been exchanged between them, everyone knew that one day Jiang Cheng would lead, and Wei Wuxian would follow. So of course, the last thing Wei Wuxian wanted was for their bond to break. A bond worth so much more than gold that has been toughened through the fires of time ─ through all the years they spend together.

The grip on his brother loosens as he lifts his hands to rest them behind the back of his head, a smile ever present on his lips that was way too carefree for the words he just said. If those words would come back to bite him in the future, he did not care, for he was certain there was no such thing that could lead there. He thought that the cause for their bond to break has yet to be invented! ❝ Tell you what... let’s hit the market to get some treats! I’ll buy your favourite, you buy me mine! Deal? ❞
