Everyone is different for sure. I hate pastels and white for a ton of things. I like neons and eye-bleeding contrasts. These things make me happy in my heart. That said I can totally understand being overwhelmed by it. I find modern arcades to be a struggle because of the lights used for example (it's mostly the sound/people tho and I think if this wasn't a problem my tolerance wouldn't be as bad visually.) And it changes day to day. Fascinating to see the differences peeps have with this kind of stuff.

I’ve seen some posts about people talking about how terrible it is that kids have grey toys, like grey ballpits and things like that. That children have bad vision so everything needs to be bright and colorful.

But. When I was a kid, the playgrounds and toys were all in the bright primary colors and I HATED IT. It made me so nauseous that everything for children was colorful. I would never go to the playground by myself, only if someone else wanted to go.

Is this a common autistic experience?

I grew up during the time of metal playgrounds with concrete ground. I didn't see a bright playground until my teens when plastic became the norm. And I'm glad, cuz 1980s shorts with burning hot metal slides was not a good combination.

Anyway, the whole neutral colour thing is apparently about that it's "calming" and gender neutral, but really it's just boring.

But, I hate primary colours, too. Too bright and apparently I was like you as a kid. Didn't like it. Still don't.

Can't say it's an autism thing, and I'm sure anyone can find them garish, but probably definitely not alone!

I hate the person I used to be. I can easily see how I could have been worse. Too easily. Kindness and personal growth are an active, every-day, choice.

I had the worst most immediate infatuation for him. Such a fucked up and badass character I couldn't help but love. I watched this film so much it's wild seeing this on my dash on a day where I am not having a good one.

I loved their whole vibe and one could say it was a character crush but really I was just so envious, deep in my heart. My then egg enby-ass self was so enthralled it fucking hurt. See also; the film Dogma and the manga Wish especially. (And had I known about him then, any Neil Gaiman angels.) Something about angels being androgynous in an ethereal way I could never, combined with having been told so many times I was going to Hell or being compared to demons, just wormed their way into my brain and never left.

What the actual fuck?! I legitimately have no idea that that happened and I am so grateful to have not had that cross my dash. I am also sorry to anyone who had to see that. (And to the victims and their families for being so disrespected. That is vile.) I've been on the site since then but my feed was pretty chill and I don't often search tags so I just didn't know the extent. Like, damn.

I don't think younger/newer users fully grasp the shit show that ace discourse was around 2014-17

It was so hostile that, to this day, discussions that begin to derail just enough can make me physically nauseous, some specific mockery trigger crying sessions years later. We lost most accounts with any sort of ace positivity. There was no information, no support, and all this damage was done predominantly by other queer people.

All this to say that you, however you identify yourself, should be engaging with aphobic comments the same way you do any hate. We don't sugarcoat or try to be comprehensive with people who are blatantly racist, homophobic or terfs, so why give it a pass just because it's coming from a queer person? I see how this tolerance goes and it's done enough damage as it is.

AITA for ripping down my roommates Ace pride flag?

I (M, minor) an not a fan of the huge pride flag my roommate has put up in the room. It takes up so much space and the command strips (which I also hate) on the back may be damaging the wall. AITA for trying take it down on several occasions?

I couldn't decide which I liked better so have both
