A smile is something she can manage when regarding Gordon, though it's not the most cheerful one. Tones of sympathy and a little doubt are visible upon her expression; things haven't been going quite as well as she's expected they would. With her fathe gone and the Advisors lurking, Alyx's weariness is practically palpable at this point.
Fortunately, she's taken enough time to morn that she hasn't burst into tears the moment she approaches the man, hence the gently concerned glance. She gave him a visual once-over before speaking aloud,
----- "Hey, Gordon."

Black Mesa East was a relatively peaceful base. To Alyx's knowledge, none of the outside dangers knew of the area. So, of course it struck the rebel as odd when DØG, her trusty mechanical companion, dashed away from her while relaxing in the territory's scrapyard.
When Alyx caught up to the bot, she found that DØG was fixated on a woman who had somehow made her way into the scrapyards -- someone unrecognizable.
"Beep!"
"You'll have to excuse me," Alyx apologized, gently pushing the mechanical hound away from the woman, "DØG isn't usually this antsy -- -- I haven't seen you around; I take it you're new here?"

-- "I don't think I've seen you around here. Are you one of Magnusson's buddies?"
Maybe it was a silly assumption, but his outfit looked a little too clean to be working with the other members of the resistance. Whoever this man was, he looked as if he'd easily fit in with one of the more sophisticated scientists working at White Forest -- one that the female mechanic hadn't run into before.

Alyx: I’ll bet the Combine aren’t too happy right now. Eli: You got that right, sweetheart, but we’ve got plenty to celebrate. I wish you didn’t have to head off so soon. (λ)

A smile remained on Alyx's face, however, her eyebrows seemed to have a different expression, one raising itself above the other in a look of confusion. Of course, the very question was running through her mind: Who was this strange woman?
Yet, she hesitated to ask this question, despite it being present in her mind since first encountering the other. That inquiry could always be made later. Besides, Alyx had yet to introduce herself, which she would make a mental note of doing so very soon. Got to have good hospitality for guests!
"I suppose I should welcome you here, then." Alyx began to speak again, "While I can't say Earth is at its best, it's certainly a lot more welcoming here than anyplace else right now."
Oh, how she wished her own words had been exaggerations. Try as she might, however, those words had much truth in them. Earth was not safe in the slightest; it was covered in things that would pounce on you or shoot you down if given the smallest opportunity. It was a hostile environment, and to call it in its entirety a friendly adjective such as welcoming would be just plain senseless.
Thankfully, however, the two happened to be in a safe area, so to speak; a Combine-free area.
"Sure thing." the woman replied, nodding her head slightly, "Wellll..."
She paused for a moment, thinking of a decent way to describe the area around them.
"You're at Black Mesa East right now. It was renovated a little less than twenty years ago, not long after the Seven Hour War. It's a base for the Resistance, meaning, y'know... Just humans and our allies."
A glance around the area before continuing her explanation, "Kind of shabby, I know, but it's where I was raised as a kid. Aaaaand... Geographically, you're near City 17, which is about what Russia used to be."

"Does any of that ring a bell to you?"

“November 2020?”, she quoted in confusion. She took a look around. This didn’t look like any 2020 she knew. “Uhm.. okay. Well this is knew”, she said to herself, shaking her head.
Mumbling a few things to herself, she let out a disappointed sigh. When she realised she was talking out loud she froze for a second, having forgotten that maybe the other would be.. finding her a bit strange because of it.
“I’m not entirely from around here. You could say not at all.”, she said, scratching her head awkwardly.
Oh, this wasn’t going anywhere.
Subject change.
“So, could you maybe tell me a bit about this place?”
She had no idea where this was. She only knew that this was Earth, but where exactly? She hoped a place she knew. That would be.. England. And Scotland. She put a small smile.

#it's totally cool!#since i havent exactly described the surrounding yet i can just make this alyx take place before the episodes#so lack of confusion! woohoo :^)#and thank you!! i'll be sure to ask if im not understanding of something#thefemalefez

Alyx took a long glance at the other girl, then yet another glance at the cobalt-blue Police Box next to the stranger. Unusual, very unusual; she hadn't noticed such a thing being there before. Its appearance did not match anything of this time, almost as if it was a sort of antique. Neither the Overwatch nor the Resistance used such equipment.
What was more unusual, however, was when the woman with the blue box inquired about the year.
...Then again, seeing as teleportation was so common nowadays, even more so than it was twenty years ago, maybe it wasn't such an odd question. It was highly possible that time travel existed unbeknownst to Alyx.
"Eh, I've heard weirder." Alyx cracked smile of her own as she folded her arms in a relaxed position.
"As of right now, it is late November of 2020. I take it you're not from around here, huh?"

When a young woman approached her, only just after she had closed the TARDIS doors, she was a bit surprised. Usually the inhabitants either already had taken their guns out of their pockets or weren’t anywhere near. Being friendly wasn’t always their first option. She turned her surprised look into a cheery one.
“Hello!”, she greeted the other. “This may sound a bit weird, but… what year is it?”, she asked cautiously, flailing a bit in an attempt to make it more ‘clear’. She hoped the other woman didn’t find it to be a strange question, because that was often a question that lead to.. well, questions. Particularly about who exactly she was. And those were questions she’d rather not answer. It’d involve remembering things she didn’t want to remember.
In hope of not trying to seem nervous, she put on a very bright smile.
