Hemp: Naturally antibacterial and naturally antimicrobial. Hemp doesn’t need any herbicides , pesticides or fungicides. It is also naturally resistant to UV light. It lasts an incredibly long time and instead of getting rough, the more you wash it the softer it gets.

Linen:  Linen is produced from the flax plant so it is very durable. Linen is sustainable that it was used back in the Ancient Egyptian times. It needs less water and less energy to be grown.

Organic Cotton: Organic cotton is a dirty fabric. Harsh chemicals are used in it’s production , for example, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides. These harsh chemicals can get into the waterways and damage humans and the environment. The good thing about organic cotton is that it uses far less water so the soil is not depleted like it is with other fabrics like conventional cotton where the harsh chemicals are used. 

Tensile: Tensile is trademarked. It is made from sustainably managed forests. It uses less water and energy than other semi synthetic materials.

Up-cycling and Re-cycling

Up-cycling is up-grading old garment and turning them into products with higher quality. Re-cycling is turning waste products into new usable products.

The most common way to re-cycle and up-cycle clothing is mechanical processing. Another way is shredding it and turning it into yarn which is then used to make new clothes.

Polo Ralph Lauren’s environment rating is ‘not good enough’ a reviewer says, however The Earth Polo is  completely ‘entirely made from recycled plastic bottles.’ This shirt was made by Ralph Lauren teaming up with the company ‘First Mile’ to become more environmentally friendly. Another thing that Ralph Lauren Does to Become more environmentally friendly is by using a ‘water less’ dyeing process.  “Ralph Lauren will commit to removing at least 170 million bottles from landfills and oceans, and will convert the use of all virgin poly-fiber to recycled poly-fiber by 2025.”

What I Have Done In The Week

Through the week i have done many things. I have done homework for textiles, Art&Design and Contextual influences. For textiles i had to create a mood-board about 3D man made thing. For Art&Design i drew objects using 4 different drawing methods, stippling , cross-hatching, constant line and random line. For contextual influences was uploading on my blog. For the rest of the days i was going out with friends and just having fun.
