Why does nobody talk about the extremely awkward transition that characters who usually call each other by their last names are forced to go through when they get together in a fic. Like, I’m aware that realistically most couples don’t go around calling each other by their surnames, so I can understand why a lot of authors choose to do it, but for some characters I simply cannot accept them being on a first name basis.

I’ve noticed the Top Gun fandom struggles with this when it comes to deciding at what stage of a relationship characters should stop referring to each other by their call signs (the correct answer is never). Or in Starsky and Hutch fics where the author will clumsily try to have them adjust to calling the other by their first name, but it’s like- I’m sorry- If I worked in that police station and suddenly the pair of them strolled in the next day calling each other “Ken” and “David” I would probably think they had been replaced by imposters (again).

Ok there's this cheap writing short cut in modern drama to announce a character has both class and money and or high power job. they always make her into hard liquor and dumb opinions about hard liquor. She doesn't know where agave is for and probably thinks tequila comes with a margarita rim.

Just annoyed when we announce she's a bitch, because she prefers a certain type of vodka but ignorance at gin/ scotch/ whiskey and deff thinks tequila is for party drinks. She'll insult the waiter or bartender, and think she's going to keep getting gold service. She'll insult whatever person tried to flirt with her. She'll have no fear for her safety or surroundings.

She'll also be annoyed she's traveling for buisness even though it's her entire personality, she probably is going to check her phone and say something about the markets which unless she's trading in another country will be closed. Which j mean all things that can happen, but will signal she's great at pretending to seem she's in control. Not good for saying she is in control.

i'm CERTAIN you'll have answered this somewhere, but i can't find it so i'll have to ask. is there a particular way of purchasing your debut that benefits you more than others in any way? I have no idea how you get paid for your work as an author, but i know it can be a minefield with creative careers.

I’ve been saying “lol I dunno” whenever people ask but yesterday I learned that THERE IS AN ANSWER!

it’s actually kinda interesting. so if you pre-order on most bookstore websites (indigo, waterstones, etc) the sales don’t get tabulated right away. when the book is actually released, in the first week of sales, THEN those pre-order sales are counted. so you can have slow but steady pre-order sales that get lumped together into an explosive first week, which makes your book look like a best-seller.

whereas with Amazon, the sale counts rights away. so if you have a good day of pre-order sales, it’ll boost the book for that day, and then come back down.

SO: the best place to pre-order is any site that isn’t Amazon. but tbh, it probably doesn’t matter that much and you should just go with whatever is most convenient for you :) and also thank you so much!
