Today is a brand new day! I feel a lightness, in contrast to my recent experience of groggy semi-depression. I feel alive with possibility. I am paying attention to that spark within myself which pulls me toward greatness. The gross variables are fluid and changing, but inside, I know, the right path is always available to me, all I have to do is feel the spark, and take action toward it. Take it in hand.

This production was incredibly fulfilling. Dug up a really old iPhone demo for the main parts, and used an ambient party noises recording from a few years ago.

APJ #6
Have been too busy bangin’ out ZC mix revisions to get to the homework previously posted. Steady daily work increases the confidence I have in my competence -- proof of ability! It’s not so much that I expect to be rid of uncertainty, there will always be the unknown, but I do expect to reach higher plateaus of skill -- and continue past them. I want to feel a series of “a-hah!” moments until there’s a lack of general confusion over what needs to be done to craft great mixes reliably.
Have been thinking about and talking to myself about compressors and how they work. I’d like to revisit knowledge about how to compress for tonality because I don’t really get it.

Further commercial success, yay.
I produced 'Dis-Moi', track 4 on Maryze’s EP ‘Like Moons’. It’s on Apple Music’s pop page, currently. Big one!

Maryze and I made this.
As a producer this is a huge accomplishment for me. Thinking back to where I once was, I’ve come so far. Immensely satisfying!
I was provided with the vocal and MIDI bass part, and built everything else around that. We re-did the vocals and I edited them quiiite a lot. mm-mm-mm tasty!
Earmilk did a review of it in which they say:
“’Dis – Moi’ is the main beam of light emitted from the EP. It's 80's sounding electro grooves contrasted with the lightweight French lyrics create an effortlessly brilliant track. With a familiar R&B beat, the track is easily the best of the EP.”
It’s also chillin’ on a big ‘ol francophone playlist on Spotify.

Mixing Homework #1
choose several songs that I know very well and make a Spotify playlist of ‘Reference Tracks. Listen to them often, on different monitors & headphones. Import them all into a session in Ableton and practice listening with EQ at various settings, cut/boost at regular intervals (octaves) with a soloed bell shape filter.
ALSO
Reference mastered ZC tunes while working on ZC mixes.
EDIT: (results to come)
