piece of advice if you’re trying to help someone through a wave of suicidal thoughts instead of saying “but you’ll miss -big life event-“ such as “if you die you’ll never get to meet your soulmate” or “one day you’ll be living in a cute little cottage living all your dreams” instead try something much smaller and more attainable. when im suicidal my brain cannot process the emotion associated with big picture things so it means nothing to me. love means nothing, future possible careers mean nothing, its all just fuzz and makes no difference in the suicide ideation. instead try offering up suggestions much closer that they can move towards. “if you die you’ll miss that movie you wanted to see that comes out next month” or “this person is 8 months pregnant and we have to see what the baby looks like”. things that like ground people and help stop spiraling thoughts, its something tangible that can be held on to and get through another week. this goes for both helping friends and helping yourself, you are your best ally
