This is the current idea for the main antagonist and final boss of Apron Strings, tentatively called The Atrocity. It's a creature that evolves parallel to the one you raise. While yours does it in a non-intrusive convergent evolution kinda way, The Atrocity does it in a way not unlike a Xenomorph or John Carpenter's The Thing
so it's intentional that it sorta looks like a bunch of shit was thrown together
