Nothing about Nakahara Chuuya was supposed to happen.

His very existence, for one.

His second chance given to him by Mori after the Sheep betrayed him, for another.

And now…

Blue eyes stare straight at the wall - if those daggers he’s glaring were real, he’d have seriously damaged the Boss’s room by now.

The executive stands ramrod straight, not daring to intrude on the verbal game of chess his Boss and the enemy’s are engaged in.

That’s right - he’s the enemy, after all.

Chuuya doesn’t buy Fitzgerald’s vague propositions of a ceasefire, and has to bite his tongue from protesting when Mori fires back his own terms.

By the time the talks end, the air is practically electrified with tension - Chuuya wants to end these charades already, but he’s in no position to question the Boss on this one. He’s asked by Mori to escort their guest back outside; there’s a sharpness to the look his Boss gives him that Chuuya’s surprised in how he doesn’t falter in returning.

He’s better than this. He’s a Port Mafia executive, and a damn loyal one at that.

Chuuya wordlessly opens the elevator doors for the Guild leader, refusing to look at him for a half-second longer than he should.

Even so, eyes similar to his own shoot the executive a side-glance that boils his blood in an instant.

Ignore it, Chuuya, he’s the enemy…he’s the enemy, goddamnit!

“Just what the hell are you playing at, here?” Chuuya growls out. Even he’s not sure what playing at he means by that. “If it’s an advantage you’re after, ya picked the wrong damn executive to make a pass at”

As if the events that transpired only weeks earlier weren’t entirely consensual. As if Chuuya wasn’t actually half as wasted as he wished he was.

In his minds eye, he recalls Kouyou’s disapproving glare. The whispers already starting to surface through his subordinates.

He can put an end to this whenever he damn well pleases.

So why is it that he hasn’t?
