It was only a few short years ago when I was offered my first promotional staff position. I can remember strutting around the house like a peacock, thinking that I had really accomplished something special. I had no clue what work and struggles that “title” would actually include. I watched others and figured out there are vast differences between individuals in the ways they treat their prostaff positions. For some, they are the greatest asset this sport could ever hope for. For others… as we say in the South, “Bless their hearts!” I now have the opportunity to represent some awesome companies, but it has not been without a few difficulties. There are a few things I wish I had focused on from the start of my journey. Not only do these things make me a better prostaffer, I think they make me a better person. If you ever see yourself in a position to represent a company, keep these few thoughts in mind. READ MORE

Pack & Paddle is known for being a great store for kayak fishing gear. People don’t always realize that it’s so much more than just a store. Pack & Paddle also hosts a lot of great trips, many of which recur throughout the year. One of the most popular recurring trips is called Louisiana Hooked, “LA Hooked” for short. You are fishing a remote shoreline, and hook into a monster fish. You turn to make sure you GoPro is turned on behind you, and the leviathan make a run right under your kayak. You struggle to turn the fish before it gets into the rocks, then SNAP and the line goes slack. Before you know it, all your weight that shifted fighting the fish is now tipping your kayak in slow motion. You can’t recover in time, and SPLASH!
For many of us, the tale of flipping our kayak isn’t so dramatic. What happens, though, if you do flip your kayak and are stranded on that remote shoreline. We came across a great waterproof survival kit put together by Everyday TackleVids that we think would make a great addition to any kayak angler’s equipment. READ MORE

In odd numbered years, millions of 3lb-5lb pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) leave the northern Pacific Ocean to enter tributary rivers of the Alaska, British Columbia, and Washington / Oregon coastline. The last three seasonal runs into the Pacific Northwest have set records for abundance of returning pinks. Pink salmon have a strict two-year life cycle and for some quirk of nature, odd-numbered years see runs magnitudes larger than in even-numbered years. Read the rest of this kayak fishing report

Have you ever opened your tackle tray and wondered why you have all these deep-diving crankbaits when you’re fishing in a grassy, five-acre pond? Most of us have had this moment. I shake my head when I see an angler load seven rods and ten trays of lures into an already-overburdened kayak.
The current trend of emulating bass boats is simply wrong. Although there are a few tournament situations where there is a definite need to carry the kitchen sink, the majority of the time you only need a simple selection of tackle to get the job done. Bass boats are made to haul an entire year’s worth of tackle and twenty-plus rod combos; a kayak is not. It is time for a paradigm shift. The system I use lets me reduce weight and simplify my tackle selection so I am more effective on the water. READ MORE
