Canon Vergil (AKA he’s an asshole)

Vergil gave a smirk, staring down his son. His blade wasn’t drawn, but he was ready to draw it the moment that Nero would try to physically stop him. Part of him hoped that Nero would try - he was curious to see if his son’s abilities had grown. He hoped Nero had been training, and that this encounter would be more fulfilling than the last. 

“That is correct. However, Dante will, and you will, if you don’t stand aside.” 

Vex’s Fantasy Vergil (AKA I’m self-indulgent as shit and under a read more because of angsty death)

He coughed wetly, trying to drag in a breath. His vision was growing darker with every thump of his heart, and he felt colder than usual. There was a sword in his chest, and nothing was healing - Why was that? He managed to turn his head in the direction of his son’s voice. 

Nero...

“Careful, boy. You’re starting to sound like you care about me,” he managed, a smirk on his features. Another cough wracked his body, and he spat out a mouthful of blood. “I am glad that I was able to know you, even if it was later in your life than ideal. You’re strong, Nero - I’m proud of you.” 

He wasn’t sure if he was going to wake from these injuries, but he found that he wasn’t bothered by the idea. His life had been filled with so much blood and pain, and there was no shame in the death he now faced. He stood at the death’s door, and he was grateful that Nero was at his side in his final moments. 

Goodbye, Son.
