Meeting Lana Del Rey, 25 September 2012

Basically me and 2 friends didn’t win tickets to the iTunes festival so we decided to go to The Roundhouse anyway to try our luck in the standby line. We were lucky enough to be the very first in the queue which meant the staff of the venue decided to pair us up with ticket holders that didn’t bring a +1. So due to that instead of coming in at 8:30 like we would have if in standby, we entered at 6, which meant we were virtually the first people inside. We went straight to front and centre. During the gig, Lana did things like reach down and take my friends twitter (then follow her an hour after!) and in the middle of her set, then when she did her little jump off stage thing, she came past us twice because we were in the middle so we got to first grab her hands and the second time take photos and I whispered in her ear if she could kiss me so during video games live on iTunes she kissed me on the cheek. The rest of the set was beautiful, literally stunning.

The second the lights went down me and my friends legged it out of the arena to a part of the building we’d made an effort to find beforehand that had a good chance of her leaving through. We waited there for about an hour, several members of staff telling us she’d already left and to give up. But we knew they were trying to deter us. So anyway, after many cars passing us, this big black van with its windows blacked out passed us and as it slowed down and stopped in front of us, we KNEW it was Lana - and low and behold Lana stepped out. She said to us ‘Sorry, I’m going to have to be really, really quick, I’m in a rush’ but her being her kind hearted self, stayed and chatted with us for a whole hour. She stayed so long that her and the rest of the people in the van agreed for them to go off without her.

My first conversation with her was asking her to sign some stuff for me and some friends. The second was me saying she follows on twitter, she asked who I was on it so I told her my name and her eyes lit up and she said 'Oh! That’s you?’ and she hugged and kiss me on the cheek, she continued 'I read the ones from this morning wanting me to come out during sound check, I’m sorry I couldn’t!’ The 3rd was me making her promise on all that is holy to dm me on twitter. The 4th was getting my photo taken with her. And the 5th was me asking if I could have my pen (that had been held in the heavenly hands of Lana Del Rey for about an hour at this point) back. 

The day can be summed up by my friend who said 'The only thing wrong with today is that nothing will ever compare to it again’.
