CRUSH THE EARTH a series of paintings by Sam Spina April – June 2018 This is a series of paintings I made a month or so ago. While I'm not *super* thrilled with the results, I'm happy that I'm finally attempting some larger paintings and I really like that these totally reflect how I was feeling at the time (frustrated, angry, wanting to smash my face into the ground and stand on my head, etc.). I'm excited to do more with this theme in the future. #1 is 24" x 36" Acrylic on Canvas Side note: I bought this canvas 10+ years ago in my sophomore (?) year of college where it's been stowed away under my beds, behind bookshelves and under couches in 6 or so apartments across 5 states. I was always too scared of 'ruining' it... Here’s a few of my storyboards from ‘Stuck In An Elevator.’ This was one of my favorite episodes I got to work on during my time at Regular Show. I had a blast with the elevator sequence – getting a chance to write scenes with Mordecai and Rigby just playing off each other and exploring their brotherly relationship was always one of my favorite parts of the show. Bonus that I got to write a bunch of jokes about them being stoked to go see Fist Pump. It was also great to have an opportunity to slow things down for a bit and give the guys (well, Mordecai anyway) a chance to step back and really think about everything that’s been going on this season. A lot of crazy things have happened lately, even by Regular Show standards. I kinda went out on a limb with Mordecai’s breakdown speech; it was pretty long and got a little heavy, but he’s been through a lot lately, so it felt appropriate and I like the idea of Mordecai getting weirdly philosophical once in a while.  I remember pitching it for the first time and feeling like it went on forever (which was part of the intention). I was sure it would get cut. Fortunately, it went over really well and made it through editorial with almost no changes. I’m very happy with how this episode turned out and it was nice to finally address the guys’ concerns about their new life in space. Also, I think we made pretty good use of those Fist Pump guns.

New Regular Show episode on Monday!

I’m pretty proud of this one, it’s called Space Race. I know this is a very specific dream, but I’ve wanted to board a space race for YEARS. I’m really happy that Regular Show finally gave me the opportunity to do it! Normal car chases have never been as cool to me as races like in F-Zero or Extreme G. Those always caught my imagination way more, so I’m happy I was finally able to go crazy with one. I locked myself in my apartment for days to draw that whole race, I hope you like it!
