One of our YTWSS organizers, @mslanai , have snagged herself a new job and will have her first day next week Monday. As hyped as she is to advance into a managerial role within the realm of sexual heath, Lanai’s savings are running very low after being unemployed for 2 months and wouldn’t get a paycheck from new job until Friday April 12. Our sis is seeking financial support to help make April rent and to pay for food, phone bill, and metrocard fare. After raising a total of $1,189, Lanai would be able to reach her goal of $1,800 with 30 people donating at least $20.36 each. We’re less than 8 hours away from our comedy show and we’re not going to let the rain stop the show! Here’s our hostess with the mostess, Milly! Milly Tamarez is a comedic actress based out of Brooklyn, New York. She has been featured on Vice, BET, Flama, Above Average, Univision, BRIC, and Comedy Central.  She is the one of the creators and producers of Flexx (a satire magazine for people of color) and Diverse as Fuck Festival a festival that highlights diversity in comedy. Milly is also one of the founders of the all women of color improv team Affirmative Action. As a main cast member of the online video sketch collective deadass her work has been featured in the Daily Dot, HelloGiggles, Galore Magazine, Adweek, and CodeBlack Report. She is currently in the Advanced Study Program of the Upright Citizens Brigade. Splitting her time between acting and hosting,  Milly can be seen performing with a number of different sketch and improv comedy groups at theatres across NYC and Brooklyn. 🐪Happy Hump Day!🐪 Next up in our lineup is Taylor Garron! Taylor is an actress, standup comedian, and comedy writer based out of Brooklyn. She's a former staff writer and current editor at Reductress, where she also teaches their satire writing workshops and produces/cohosts their monthly comedy shows. Her writing can be found in numerous comedy publications, such as College Humor, The Onion, and The New Yorker. Her favorite credit is that she was a cast member on the PBS Kids show "ZOOM" in 2005, and she refuses to let anyone forget about it. She is a Doctoral Candidate at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She performs original characters regularly at the People's Improv Theatre. Jen Kwok is a Chinese-American singer-songwriter and actor whose work has been featured by Buzzfeed, PBS & The New York Times. Television appearances include Netflix’s Friends From College, ABC's Quantico, and HBO's High Maintenance, and she has also been seen in such classic viral videos as College Humor’s “Zordon is a Racist”, “Subway Panhandler” and her own “Date an Asian”. As a musician, Jen has released *69, an EP of classical piano-inspired '90s covers, and has performed to over 100 individuals through her “Songs for One” project. Every year we work hard to put on great events that can be sure to be stuck in your memory banks forever; however, we also realized that you all barely know the faces behind all of the magic. This year we’ve decided to do things differently. We wanted to introduce ourselves intimately by participating in a self-care photo/video working series with the great @jai_florez which reveals the organizers personal feelings of self-care to go alongside with this years theme. This is @rubbybulb a fifth year organizer and social worker. She recharges at home, taking care of her plants 🌱, cooking 🍝and trying to create boundaries between work life & home life. For Graciela, self-preservation is taking a break from an emotionally exhausting job & mindfully inviting things & people who give her joy into her life every day. So happy to announce our second performer for ✨Ritual: A Community Garden Potluck - catch her Sept. 15 at 3pm!✨ Linda LaBeija is a multidisciplinary artist, organizer and curator from Bronx, New York. Her work explores the complexities of living as a transgender woman of color in today’s America. With origins in both Black America and the English/Spanish-speaking Caribbean, Linda's transnational experience of living at the intersection of embodied, social, and national borders hones in on the critiques of hegemonic power. Born out of the Iconic House of LaBeija in the underground New York City Vogue Ballroom scene, Linda’s pursuit of spoken word infused musical sound has been featured in articles in both Afropunk and The Fader. She has performed in various theaters and venues including The Cherrylane Theater, The National Black Theater of Harlem and El Teatro of Museo Del Barrio. She has performed behind voices and writers such as StaceyAnn Chin and Me’shell Ndegeoecello. She can also be seen in the feature film “Pariah” directed by Dee Rees and in the FX series “Pose” produced by Ryan Murphy. Through workshop facilitation and communal performances, Linda uses her autobiographical work to create greater social consciousness around transgender issues. In 2015, she helped organize Afropunk’s first Trans Awareness March. In addition to her work as an organizer and curator she devotes her time to providing services to LGBT homeless youth at the Ali Forney Center.
