Presentation Research! (Six Second Scribbles!)
Six Second Scribbles: The frantically fast and fantastically fun drawing game | A family friendly party game for children, teens and adults (Six Second Scribbles) : Amazon.co.uk: Toys & Games
Tumblr media
Six Second Scribbles is a family-friendly drawing game in which players have to try and draw 10 different things within a 60 second time limit and is based upon different categories. Once the player has drawn their 'Masterpiece' they then pass on their artwork and then guess what the others have 'Doodled'. This game involves 3 difficulty levels which are Easy, Tricky and Almost Impossible, these help enhance the replay ability factor of the game as well as appealing to a wider audience.
Tumblr media
I'm looking into this game to find a little bit more about how drawing games specifically are packaged as well as how they present their work online and in person.
If I were to design my own box and board game supplies I would believe that I would use a similar method and design layout as this game, as it appeals to me in a very simple but prestigious way that captures the game in black and white which fits accessibility but also clearly showcases how to play the game in just a few steps and is child appropriate for most ages.

Presentation Research! (Pictionary!)
Pictionary - Wikipedia
Tumblr media
Pictionary is a Charades inspired guessing drawing game made using graphic design and is played in teams with players trying to identify certain and specific words to try and guess correctly what their teammates have drawn.
I am looking into this game to discuss and find out how other 'board games' present their work and design the boxes while seeing how I might go about designing my own box and coming up with a name and things such as art design and a logo etc.
Resources that may need to be supplied include a box to put all the required equipment inside as well as thew overall art design of the box to maker it stand out and appeal to customers. Making the art relatable to the game is very important so that people can see immediately what the game is about and how it looks in person when they play it.

PEGI Ratings!
What do the labels mean? | Pegi Public Site
I'm looking into PEGI ratings specifically for making my game accessible for the PEGI rating 12 as this will be presented at the Norwich Games Festival in May 2025 while also looking into the problems that I may encounter during development. As an example, I can't control what people choose to draw and this could become a problem if I don't control what I can control.
This could include making sure that what I draw for people to memorize isn't inappropriate in any way whilst adjusting my drawings through feedback for things such as colour or perhaps making the image more clear or adjusting the difficulty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For making and coming up with my designs I need to make sure that if I'm going to use images online for reference or inspiration that I avoid things such as copyright and giving appropriate credit where it is due for where I got my ideas and images from but also why I looked into them and used them.
This will be for the memory aspect of my game if I were to do this to gather how the 'memory' mechanic of the game can be used effectively for the players as well as for me as the designer.

Research! (Games That Use A Drawing Tablet!)
4. Colours Live! (Nintendo Switch.)
Colors Live - Nintendo Switch - Games - Nintendo
Colors SonarPen – Colors Live Store
youtube
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Colours Live is a painting game for the Nintendo Switch console that enhances the use of a 'Portable Art Studio'. Some of the features include multiple paint brushes, layers, and involves a 'Pressure Sensitive Colours SolarPen' which enhances the controls system for the game.
Tumblr media
This game is in 3D and is overall user-friendly making it accessible for different artists of all kinds of skillsets. The tablet itself is the Nintendo Switch but is mainly surrounded by the use of the 'SolarPen' which has been originally used before this game through cooperation with a company called 'GreenBulb' who have made other versions of the 'SonarPen' since their first 'Kickstarter' back in 2018.
The pen overall influences the gameplay through most of the game and is used for great creative freedom and allows players to engage with digital art in a unique way that captures the drawing tablet in it's fullest potential for players alike.

3. Doodlr!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Doodlr.io is game similar to Skribbl.io and Pictionary where players draw and guess what the person has drawn and works around a 'Score' system.
This score system involves players gaining a certain amount of points based on how quickly they guess the drawing as well as depending on whether or not they guess before other players which will give them more points than the other players.
This type of score system could work and I could take inspiration from games such as Doodlr.io and have something similar in my game so that I can picture how it would work if my game were digital and take this into account.
A drawing tablet would be used in the same way as Pictionary for Doodlr.io and using a drawing tablet doesn't have to be used for most of the games but is probably the best way to access the game and draw. Using drawing tablets for this game would be used for about I would say 50% of this game as for everything else players are guessing instead of drawing.

2. Passpartout!
Passpartout: The Starving Artist on Steam
Tumblr media
youtube
youtube
Passpartout is another drawing game based around becoming a 'Great Artist' and 'Wrestling subjectivity as you attempt to sell your art to rude customers in order to progress in this confusing art scene.' 'The only thing threatening you is your wine and baguette addiction! Will your art end up in the Louvre or on your parents fridge'.
Tumblr media
Within this game, drawing tablets can be used for most of the game to design and create art pieces of your choice and gives you the creative freedom to make what you like but the true aim is to get people to buy your artworks for a price/bid that is to their liking.
Overall, drawing tablets influence this game for most of the core mechanics and allows you to play most of the game with the drawing tablet itself which makes this game very accessible for those who want and can use a drawing tablet. This game has also influenced and inspired me to try and make my designs quick and easy but with enough design and detail for quick feedback which this game has given me.
Due to the quick feedback system this game has allows you as the player to respond to that feedback in a quick manner by changing and adapting your art pieces to what the customers like as well as experimenting with random designs and anything that pops to mind that might impress customers.

Research! (Gartic Phone!)
Gartic Phone - The Telephone Game
Tumblr media
youtube
In Gartic Phone you play ''The Telephone Game'' which involves playing against other people creating and describing drawings and sentences made by the other players. this games challenge is to keep the meaning of the drawings form the start to the end while having fun and experiencing laughter and comedic drawings and answers.
I have chosen to look at this game due to being inspired by the creative freedom that the game offers and the fact that there are endless options when it comes down to what to draw.
This game has also helped give me more and further ideas for how and what I could draw for my drawing game which will just be some basic shapes and drawings for people to guess and then maybe increasing the difficulty if the game is too easy.

Research! (Jackbox!)
Drawful 2 | Jackbox Games
Drawful 2 on Steam
Tumblr media
youtube
Drawful 2 is a drawing party game that allows players to create prompts showcasing creativity that takes crafting skills to the next level. This is the second game in the series which involves even more funky and is an overall goofy experience to enjoy and play with friends and family.
I was inspired by this game as it takes drawing and guessing to another level through the beautiful animations as well as the clear and detailed but still basic artwork that gives joy and embraces the party game genre to a different perspective through emotions and skills through drawings.
This has some features that will kind off be involved within my paper prototype but still has a different goal in mind which is memorization as the main mechanic and function to rely on. I looked at this specific game from ''Jackbox'' because I wanted to see firsthand how a digital drawing guessing game is designed whilst gaining insight on how and what I could potentially draw on paper by hand for my game.

New Idea! (Paper Prototype!)
Tumblr media
This new idea is a shortened version of my first idea that I was going with, instead of making an alternative digital controller I will be making a paper prototype that will enhance some of my original ideas for the idea that included things like how the game would be played digitally through using a drawing tablet and then making it similar to my original idea but the overall concept and game idea is still different.
This was discussed with Sam Gibbs and she has helped me to grab a simpler idea that works in an alternative way but is still involving some of the idea that I originally went with.
This idea is overall going to be a ''Paper Drawing'' game in which I draw something on a piece of paper and the player has roughly a small amount of time say 10 seconds to memorize the drawing and then they have to then have a go at drawing what they remembered to try and match the original picture that they saw.
I really like this new idea that Sam helped me come up with while also allowing me to do some further research into drawing games such as Jackbox, Gartic Phone and any other games alike.
This idea will give me enough time to complete this project as I'm still quite far behind as I have no development so far so instead of me adding things such as audio and actually designing a controller I will instead make a simple game that players will need to recreate using their own minds which enhances some of my original idea.
I can also look at how this game would actually look if it were a physical videogame and see how this would influence a more digital approach towards my concept as well as imagining how I would mkae this work through perhaps Unreal Engine using a ''Score'' system which would be a challenge but still possible, however I probably won't actually make it through an engine but rather just have the paper prototype.

Researching Audio In Photoshop!
This first video is based around how to actually add the audio into Photoshop which I found a while ago through research for my idea and this has really helped me for how to implement audios that I could potentially use for the alternative controller.
youtube
youtube
The second video on the other hand also showcases how to add audio into photoshop but also an ''Audio Track'' which is useful for animations that I would make for the controller. So if I were to have music as an example as the main audio I could then add other audios for the animations such as a button press or a controller stick just as an example.

Paper Prototyping Research!
Paper Prototyping is a ''Process where design terms create paper representations of digital products to help them realize concepts and test designs.'' Paper Prototyping typically tends to be used for creating software that allows developers to help ''Meet user expectations'' through hand drawn paper sketches.
Examples!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Through using Paper Prototyping I will aim to get some further ideas for what type of alternative controller I will be making as well as things like what potential animations would be good as well as the different audios that could be used for the alternative experience.
This will be just some basic ideas and designs that I could make or at least help inspire me for what I will make in photoshop using a drawing tablet that will be interactive through a Makey Makey for the digital experience.
