love the symbolism of haymitch's outfit in the parade scene. he loses his "cheesy imitation coal miner hat in the accident and, rid of the headgear, our outfits become merely neutral, black and forgettable." (SOTR, 79).
he's wearing the uniform of his district, a coal miner, someone sent to the deepest parts of the earth day after day, working for scrip, not even real money, facing the highest, "most brutal" person in panem with a dead girl in his arms forcing him to confront that he did this.
how he's not haymitch- rather he's every coal miner in district 12, every person who has lost a child to the games, to starvation, to the oppression of snow's regime. he is not haymitch. he is panem.

"what radicalized you" uhh probably when my church showed us a film about a wild horse suffering from the consequences of westward expansion and the inhumane treatment of Native Americans in the name of Manifest Destiny for our fun little childrens movie day or something like that

howdy!! I definitely get that- the line between "works based faith" and "faith driven works" feels kind of blurry sometimes. I think the point is that as we pursue Jesus, our hearts & desires will be shaped more to be like His. If you believe in the Gospel- that "this is love: not that we love God, but that He loved us, and gave His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins" and that Jesus rose from the dead, you have received salvation!! 100% !! He's got you, friend! Verses like this aren't meant to shame us- they're meant to spur us into action. As a baby Christian, I didn't have much selflessness or empathy. But the more I walk with God, the more I desire the things He desires. Such as: justice, mercy, compassion. To see the poor wanderer welcomed, to see the starving fed, to see the oppressed free. We have already received grace! We do not have to perform to a certain standard to achieve salvation. Moreover, it is not up to us alone!! I by myself am powerless- it is only in Christ that I do any good at all!! And I know we weren't built to do it all- just as the early church delegated trusted members to serve different parts of the community, we can entrust other brothers and sisters in Christ to do the good work set out for them. It is not up to you, or me, to fix everything that is broken with the world all alone. It was never intended that way!! We, as followers of Jesus, get to reflect His love to others!! We will mess up. I know I have. But there is grace upon grace upon grace!! It says in Romans 8 that nothing can separate us from the love of God. If you are a "born again" believer, salvation isn't going to be withheld from you. God is just offering you an opportunity to make earth a little more heaven-ready and His love more known! Sorry for the ramble- would love to talk more about this if you want!!
"what radicalized you" idk probably opening my bible & reading verses like this:
