ice cream you scream we’re all screaming

Though part of her had been wishing it would be just the two of them she had been somewhat grateful Sunghoon hadn’t asked her to go with him alone. Her newfound attraction towards him only made things far more complicated than they needed to be when it came to him. Though in her eyes it had been fully one sided, she was beginning to realize she saw him as something more than a friend and she knew that was a boundary that neither of them would ever cross because he only saw her as a friend.

As Sunghoon arrived at her place for the first time he found himself getting nervous, as he was bnow in uncharted territory, hell his own teammates had been here before he had so of course he had anticipating going inside, but for some reason he couldn’t get his feet to move – as if they had been cemented to the ground beneath him. Staring at the text in his phone she had sent only an hour prior he stares up at the apartment building before heading off inside making a beeline straight for the elevators and heading for the top floor.

He stood on the other side of the door and for a few seconds his mind had drifted off elsewhere. Sungoon was well aware that this wasn’t a date, nor would the two of them be alone together, so why the hell did he suddenly feel so any nerves pouring in as he raised his hand to knock on her door. Most of his nerves began to melt away as the door swung open and on the other side stood Junie with the biggest smile on her face.

“You’re here! Yn he’s here!’’ Before Sunghoon could fully process and greet her she had already been pulling him inside.

“My sisters still getting ready, she's been taking two hours just to find something to put on.’’ junie complains, making Sunghoon chuckle.

“Guess she’s just not as quick as you hm?’’

“She wishes, now that she’s older she always takes so long even when we’re just going to the grocery store she takes an hour.’’ Sunghoon couldn’t help but laugh at her little sister's complaints as the both of them took a seat on the couch.

“Only reason you get dressed so quickly is because you don’t dress yourself.’’ yn claps back as she strolls down the hall, a smile on her lips as she teases her sister.

“I do to dress myself!”

“Yeah you put them on yourself but our parents pick them out for you.’’ yn then looks over to Sunghoon, an amused smile on her lips “She’s been waiting for you to get here ever since she got out of school by the way.’’

“Oh, has she?’’ Sunghoon looks over to junie who was practically giving her older sister a death stare ( as much of a death stare you could give when you just look like an angry bunny anytime you get mad ).

“Don’t get your hopes up I just want the ice cream.’’

“Pft.’’ yn quickly turns her head trying her best to stifle a laugh.As young as her sister had been, her sass level was that of an adult and never failed to make her laugh.

By the time they all had finally gotten out the sun had started to set thus bringing along with it golden hour. Despite going out for only ice cream, Junie had somehow convinced them both to take her to the claw arcade, which only assisted in the loss of a total of twenty dollars between the two of them and no reward what-so-ever. Fully giving up on the claw machine Sunghoon just resulted in taking the two of them to a plushie store and letting the younger girl go crazy while the two of them caught up.

“You know you didn’t have to do this she’s already spoiled enough as it is.’’ yn comments watching as her sister ran around amongst other kids and adults talking in all of the different toys and stuffies.

“I want to, at least I know I won't be losing twenty dollars and getting nothing after getting one here.’’ he grambles, earning a laugh from her.

“Yeah those things are definitely rigged, there's absolutely no way you played as many times as you did and got nothing.’’ She laughs it off, leaning her back against the shelf of plushies behind herself.

“I’m sure she’ll be happy either way today, she loves practicing with you but i’m sure this means a lot more to her.’’

He wanted to ask her if she also loved practicing with him, if she valued her time with him as much as her sister did but their conversation was cut short as junie ran over with a plushie almost two times her size in her hands.

The rest of their outing had gone by smoothly, after the plushie shopping they’d stopped for food and shopped around before ultimately landing at their final stop for the day, the ice cream shop. Amongst the three of them, Junie was the most excited for this, Sunghoon having told her to go crazy gave her the opportunity to go all out with the things she wanted — which meant endless sprinkles, candy and caramel toppings. She and Sunghoon settled for something more subtle in taste, him going for their infamous mango ice cream while she went for the matcha.

“Thank you again for this, I've been so stressed with all the practices and assignments i’ve just needed to decompress, what made you ask me anyways?” she asks, her curiosity practically seeping at the seams as she took a bite if her ice cream

“I feel like my teammates have seen more of you than I have since the party.’’

“Ooh ounds like someones been missing me?’’ Obviously wanted she’d set it she was simply teasing, not expecting him to come out with any sort of answer. But as she shoved a spoonful of ice cream in her mouth the words fell from his lips so quick she’d nearly choked.

“I did.’’ She sat there spoon hanging halfway at her mouth eyes blinking as if she’d just heard the most shocking news in her life. She hadn’t expected his answer to be so blunt and forward yet he admitted to missing her without the slightest anchor of hesitation. It made her heart skip a beat and brought her even closer to the realization that she was in deep shit.

She was fully snapped back from her thoughts as she heard her sister laughing about something while showing Sunghoon what she had been watching on her sister’s phone the entire time. Sunghoon looked at her just as attentively as she would been it came to her. He didn’t seem bothered or annoyed by the constant interruptions between the two of them, he treated her as if she had been his own little sister. Wiping ice cream from her face or giving head pads while she sat there quietly watching her cartoons. Meanwhile every time he tended to Junie he seemed to completely miss the way that yn looked at him. It wasn’t the usual look she’d give him, behind her eyes glimmered something deeper. Right here in this ice cream shop she was staring to realize that what she felt towards him was no longer just simple attraction. She liked Park Sunghoon, and not in the friendship kind of way. The realization left her internally screaming as she knew that he would never house those same feelings for her because as he once said himself “we’re friends right?”.

The entire drive back to her house was silent as she sat wrestling with her feelings and whether or not it was a good idea or not. As they eventually arrived at her place and he scoops her younger sister into his arms she watches his back as he carries her inside, a night that was meant to be so happy turning somewhat somber. Shaking the thoughts from her head for now she follows him into the elevator seemingly missing the glances he’d send her way. While he stood there going back and forth in his own thoughts wondering if he should ask her out again she stood there seemingly deep in thought. The two stood in the elevator as quiet as ever the only sound interrupting their momentary silence being the ding of the elevator and the shuffling of feet as they stepped onto her floor.

“I’ll take her from here, you shouldn’t have to carry her all the way inside.” She spoke soberly not wanting to wake her sister as she unlocks the door before turning to take her into her arms. Sunghoon saw no reason to protest as they had already made it to her door.

“Thanks again for tonight.” She stood there staring at him as if she had been waiting for something, the hallway lights glimmering in her eyes made it so much harder to look away from her. They made it even more harder for him to make the decision he had been fighting with himself to make for the last hour, but of course he failed to ask. And as the two of them said their goodnights and she closed her door he let out a sigh, but not one of relief one of disappointment. He once again failed to ask her the question he’d long to ask since the moment he realized he saw her as more than a friend.

happy Soobin day

Despite their awkward moment at the rink the previous day, yn would have to pull herself together, for today was a new day and she would be seeing him once again, this time under differing circumstances. Soobins birthday party just so happened to be tonight and everyone had been invited, and by everyone that meant EVERYONE. Not only had Harua, Maki and Nicholas been invited but Sunghoon and his entire friend group also happened to fall upon that list. It’s not that she was complaining or anything. She had enjoyed the group's company after the UA’s game and didn’t mind hanging out with them all again, but Sunghoon himself was the problem. Having to be in the same room as him after their catastrophe of a skating lesson yesterday was something she was painfully dreading.

“Are you guys actually letting him come with us.’’ Fatou questions, her gaze drifting over to Woonhak who had been walking beside Jin Soul as they all made their way down the road — all of them having parked a few blocks away from Soobins house.

“It’s better to invite him than have him catching on fire again.’’ Mari responds earning a nod from fatou followed by a string of “good points”

“Maki and Harua will be there too so at least he’ll have people to keep him company since he can’t drink.’’ Yeonjun chimes in, shrugging his shoulders as if he wasn’t the slightest bit worried about Woonhak possibly getting into any trouble this time around.

Yn being the only one not having entered herself into the conversation because she was far too busy getting in her head about running across Sunghoon tonight. Maybe iif she was lucky she could stick beside the group and the two of them wouldn’t run into one another, or at least that was her thought process until they strolled into the house and everyone began to disperse. Woonhak leaves the group to find Maki and Harua, Yeonjun and Riwoo running off to a group of girls standing in the corner of the room and Jinsoul and Fatou going immediately to the drinks and dj booth. That left her alone with Mari, who eventually ran off the moment her eyes caught sight of Nicholas standing at a long table playing what she assumed to be beer pong.

That now left her standing alone, and although she would usually be contemptuous with spending the night on her own tonight was far different. After passing through the kitchen for a quick drink she pops out onto the balcony, feeling the need for fresh air and lot’s of time to think.

Sunghoon, who had arrived at the party a lot earlier than her, found his gaze drifting towards the door every five minutes as if he had been waiting for someone to come in. Jay had noticed right away and would throw a few sly remarks his way, at which Sunghoon would just roll his eyes or brush off.

“Staring at the door won’t make her come any faster. Will you just get a drink and relax.’’ Jay comments, taking a sip from his cup as he leaned against the wall to his side.

“What are you talking about?’’

“Are you really going to play this game with me?’’ Jay's eyebrows raise as he peers at his friend over his red solo cup before dropping it from his lips.

“I’m just watching the door, that’s all.’’

“Right cause that’s totally normal of you.’’ Jay responds, a snort following his words as he laughs at his friend's inability to tell the truth when it came to a certain someone.

“Well you have fun watching the door, i’m gonna go watch these jackasses play beer pong.’’ pushing himself away from the wall, Jay takes his leave, leaving Sunghoon alone to continue observing the rest of the people in the room like before.

He couldn’t help but think of how pathetic he may have looked, standing in the corner of the room waiting for the girl he only recently realized he was growing feelings for. A sigh spills from his lips as he brushes his hair back, his gaze finally breaking away from the door. It was then that he saw a familiar head of hair walking out towards the balcony, if he had turned his head any later he would have missed her entirely. She must have come in while he and Jay had been in the middle of their conversation, when he was far too occupied to be paying attention to who was coming in and out of the door.

The moment she got outside the wind hit her like a ton of bricks, sending a shiver straight through her spine, but it was a much needed wake up call. For minutes on end she just stood there in silence, the moment from the rink playing over and over in her mind until she began to realize that her nerves were starting to feel silly. What reason did she have to be nervous? He would probably do the same for all of his students right?

A laugh spills from her lips at her own ability to overreact, she was starting to realize she sometimes made herself panic when she overthought things. For a split second the door behind her swung open and the sound of music could be heard outside until the door was shut again. As she turned to see the person that had now joined her outside the smile was immediately wiped from her face and her throat ran dry. Her moment of recognition and self reflection was immediately thrown over the balcony the moment her eyes fell upon none other than Sunghoon, the man that had been plaguing her thoughts since the night of his game.

“I guess you needed somewhere to escape too?’’ Sunghoon spoke up, mentally cringing at his own choice of greetings that sounded more and more lame the more he thought about it.

“I just needed somewhere to think.’’ she manages to choke out, her words coming out somewhat robotic but thankfully he hadn’t seemed to notice.

“What are we thinking about tonight?’’ he asks, pausing to take a sip from his cup as he fills in the spot at her side.

‘You’ was what she was obviously thinking at that moment, but of course she couldn’t say that to him.

“Just hoping your friends don’t get yet another party shut down I actually want to enjoy it this time and we don’t need Woonhak catching on fire again.’’ she lies, not being able to stomach having the conversation about him and her right now. Sunghoon chuckles glancing out over the balcony where Ni ki, Riwoo, Yeonjun and Jake all stood out in the backyard.

“Don't worry they’ll be on their best behavior tonight, Woonhak is safe don’t worry.’’ He playfully nudged her with his elbow before turning so that he was now leaning against the railing.

“So you guys let him into the party this time?’’ He questions, referring to Woonhak not having to sneak in to the party this time

“It was either that or we risk something worse happening than his hat being burned to a crisp.’’ The two share a laugh before she turns to lean against the railing as well. “Besides, Nicholas came with Harua and Maki tonight so he’ll have some company.’’

“The three of them together might just be worse than Woonhak alone.’’ Sunghoon chuckles, earning a shrug from her.

“Well if the cops show up for any reason tonight i’ve got my running shoes on this time.’’ Sunghoon laughs before bringing his cup to his lips finishing off the last of his drink.

Their conversation was suddenly cut short by the sound of screaming from a nearby window beside them. As the two peak over the railing her eyes widen as they fall upon Woonhak hanging halfway out the window while Yeonjun struggles to pull him back inside.. She rubs att her temples and turns to Sunghoon who stood next to her trying to hold in his laugh, not wanting to make the situation any worse.

“It’s going to be a long night.’’ she grumbles, the two of them heading back inside to make sure Yeonjun didn’t need any help pulling Woonhak back in.

The night was indeed a long one, but unlike Yeonjuns disaster of a party this one was less stressful and far more fun. The night was full of loud music, drunk dancing and multiple games of cup pong and uno ( which is probably the worst game to play when half the players are too drunk to read their cards ). The only hiccup of that night had been Woonhaks window incident – which forced each of them to take turns making sure he was nowhere near the window. After they finally sang happy birthday to Soobin and cut the cake the party slowly began to wind down and upon every hour people would disperse. By the time 2 am rolled around everyone had gone home, leaving only the two friend groups left who had still been full of energy. 5 drunken rounds of just dance later that they all started dropping like flies, most of them just dropping wherever they landed and passing out there. By the end of the night Maki, Harua and Woonhak had been the only three awake and fully sober. Ultimately the three had made the decision to just cover 'em all up with blankets and let them sleep while they went on to make use of their downtime.

“I’m sorry what?’’ as if not fully comprehending the words that had left her grandmother's mouth she blinks rapidly, trying to figure out if she had really heard that or if her mind was playing tricks on her

“You didn’t think I would be leaving you all by yourself when I went back to italy did you?’’

“So you decide to leave me with a complete stranger.’’

“He’s not a stranger my god you younger generations really don’t remember anyone. He was friends with your parents they all owned the bookstore together and they took you there when you were younger.’’ Though she vaguely remembered the bookstore, many of her childhood memories had faded to the deepest parts of her mind.

“Um.’’

“It’s alright if you don’t remember you were only about six or seven at the time.’’ he suddenly chimes in momentarily, stealing her attention away from her grandmother.

“Him and his two sons will be staying here, until I know you can be trusted to stay here on your own they’ll be looking after you.’’

“Oh great more people to add onto my misery.’’ she sighs, shaking her head and rubbing at her forehead, suddenly feeling a headache coming on.

“Well misery loves company dear.’’ her grandma comments rubbing her shoulders.

In addition to the fact that she had just now lost her mother, having three complete strangers move into her house just for the sole purpose of babysitting her; it gave her an entirely new reason to not want to leave her room. While she stayed cooped up inside, hating her life more with every second ( with the company of Sunoo through facetime ) the mansion's new inhabitants were roaming around freely.

“You mean to tell me someone was living here all on their own? Without getting lost?’’ Jake whispers beneath his breath as he enters the house for the first time, taking in the art that stretched from the floor to the ceiling and the chandeliers that would blind you if you stared too long, and that had only been the foyer.

“Quit gawking, you’re acting like you’ve never been in a house before.’’ Sunghoon comments, bumping against Jake's shoulder as he went off to find the room given to him before they got there.

“I have just never one this big.’’ Jake responds, his voice fading off as he scanned the place, eventually moving from the foyer to explore other parts of the house that they were now able to call their own.

Eventually they had all settled in, everything having gotten done much quicker with the help of movers, in contrast to the 7 hours of moving done by just the three of them. When they had finally finished the two boys along with their father and her grandmother all gathered out in the garden.

“Well first off welcome,i hope you boys are all settled in and have explored the house a bit.’’ her grandma inquires with a smile on her face, setting her tea aside so she could discuss with them the matters of the home.

“Yes ma’am all settled in.’’ Jake responds followed by a half hearted “yup” from Sunghoon who simply wanted the conversation to be over already.

“I want to apologize for my grandaughters absence she’s not feeling the best at the moment but she’ll come down once she’s ready.’’ Mr Park. gives a nod of understanding already knowing the girl's current state without the topic itself having been brought up.

“As much as i’d like to say you’re simply here to enjoy your time here one of your main priorities is to look after her while i’m away. I’ve made sure to enroll your boys into the same university and yn they'll get the top education needed, full rides. As for your work I know you sacrificed a lot to be here so I did pull strings with that publishing company you were interested in and you’ll start in three days, they’re giving you time to get settled." The three simply nod along as she spoke, sunghoon barely showing much interest in any word spoken until money had been involved.

“Now I know that you said you don't want to accept any money for being here with her, but I'll be paying you and your boys 3 thousand a week for any expenses that may come about. A bonus thousand if you can actually keep her in line.’’ she adds on pinching the bridge of her nose.

“I’m sure they’ll use it all responsibly right guys.’’ their father gives the two of them a look they knew all too well, they both shoot a smile her way, followed up by a band of yeses.

“Perfect, I'll still be here until Monday, but the place is yours. The only thing I asked of you is that you stay out of the last room on the left wing of the house. That room is strictly forbidden to anyone other than yn.’’ Sunghoon and Jake share a glance with one another before shrugging it off.

Once every matter had finally been discussed Mr. park and Ms. Kang both dispersed into their own parts of the house leaving the two boys outside.

“You think she’s that bad?’’ Jake questions, laying back on the grass and watching as rain clouds came rolling in.

“Nah it’s totally normal to be twenty two years old and still need a babysitter.’’ Sunghoon responds sarcastically, making Jake roll his eyes.

“I don’t know just seems weird to have this much money and live in a place like this and you can’t even manage it.’’

“She’s probably just one of those spoiled rich types that takes it for granted or gets herself into deep shit so now she needs someone to tend to her like she’s a child. Simple as that.’’ Sunghoon responds, pushing himself up from his seat.

“Where are you going?’’ Jake questions, sitting up from his seat on the grassland resting on his palms.

“To mind my business, don’t worry about it.’’ Jake simply shrugs it off, going back to his cloud watching as Sunghoon disappears back inside. Making a beeline straight for the left wing of the house.

He had heard exactly what her grandmother said about this side of the house; he was just never one to listen, especially when his curiosity got the best of him. So now here he was creeping towards the end of the hallway doing the exact opposite of what she had told them not to do.

After hours of keeping herself caged up in her room her stomach had finally persuaded her to leave it, she had been halfway down the hall when she saw a head of hair zoom up the stairs and into the left wing of the house, the side where only three rooms remained two of them being entirely off limits. Momentarily putting her hunger aside she follows suit.

Sunghoon had only made it halfway to the door when he heard someone speak up behind him, annoyance laced in their tone. But It obviously hadn’t been their dad or jake or her Ms. Kang so that only left one option and slowly but surely he turned to find her standing there.

“What are you doing?’’ Sunghoons eyes smoothly scanned over her, giving her a once over until he came to the conclusion that she wasn’t as bad as he imagined she’d look.

“Uh hello jackass, I asked a question.’’ as annoying as that mouth of hers was to him in that moment it was also absolutely amusing. He was expecting her to be some propper and prissy rich bitch but to his surprise she swore like a sailor.

“Just looking for the library.’’ he lied with ease, unfortunately for him she wasn’t buying it.

“Right, the bigass room downstairs that can easily be found if you walk past the kitchen.’’

“Not asking you to believe me unlike you my house before this didn’t need to come with a map.’’Sunghoon responds snarkily, making her nose scrunch up in annoyance.

“Okay who are you?’’

“Sunghoon, one of your new babysitters sweetheart,’’ He responds, shooting her a cheeky grin.

“Oh this day just keeps getting worse.’’ She rolls her eyes, letting out a huff as she turns on her heels and walks away, Sunghoon suddenly feeling compelled to follow behind her.

“So have you always needed a babysitter or is this like a new thing for you.’’ Sunghoon continues on, finding delight in the annoyed expression on her face.

“Stop talking to me or i’m going to have one less babysitter walking around here.’’ she responds shuffling down the stairs letting out an annoyed huff as he continues to stalk behind her.

“Don’t think your grandma would be too happy about you y'know killing one of your babysitters. That is if you even had the balls to do it.’’ Sunghoon mocks, resting his elbows on the kitchen countertop and his head on his palm as he watches her open the fridge.

“Who are you talking to?’’ Jake interrupts, entering the kitchen with a towel on his head as he rubs his hair dry from the rain. Eventually he looks over to find her standing at the fridge and he freezes on the spot, in contrast to Sunghoons onceover his was more subtle and less judgemental.

“Oh great there's two of you what's this one's name.’’ her gaze then shifts to him, away from Sunghoon who had gotten bored of her already which resulted in him getting on his phone.

“Jake, and you’re yn right?’’

“No i’m actually the ghost that haunts this place when she’s asleep.’’ she responds sarcastically, earning a snicker from Sunghoon who eventually got up to leave. Not forgetting to whisper a quick ‘I told you so’ in his brother's direction before walking out.

“So i see you met my brother, and he’s already gotten on your nerves I assume.’’

“Unfortunately.” she responds grabbing a water from the fridge and closing it, suddenly having lost her appetite

“Yep that’s the usual reaction people have to meeting him.’’ Jake comments, taking a seat at the island counter.

“So if he’s the moody one that makes you?’’ she pauses as if waiting for him to fill in the rest of the sentence.

“The not so annoying one, you know the one that’s got actual charm.’’ Jake responds, making her squint her eyes and her lips press into a thin line.

“Right…i’m gonna go now, and hopefully when i wake up tomorrow this will all be a dream and you and your moody brother won’t actually be here.’’ grabbing her a water from the counter she bids him a goodbye before leaving him alone in the kitchen.

Two weeks, two long weeks that dragged on, to her it felt like lightyears in contrast to how quick time had really been zooming by. Funny how life had a way of fucking you over, funny how no matter what you yourself was dealing with or going through the earth just kept spinning as if your life was insignificant to it. Life had a funny way of making even the strongest of people turn into someone less than themselves.

Her mother had just died, the one personn she had left in her life that truly understood her in ways that no one else would, the very last of her heart was now to be buried with her mother.

Sunoo and the others were now forced to witness her condition worsen with every day that passed, each day closer to her mothers funeral pushed her further to the edge. They watched any remnant of the girl they knew slowly slip away as she drowned her sorrows in weed and alcohol but never lifting her fingers to do any hard drugs which they were grateful for but it still hadn’t bettered the situation.

She stopped showing up to classes, stopped writing and she rarely ate unless the effects of the marijuana made her feel like she could eat an entire market — only to throw it back up hours later.

“yn I think you’ve had enough maybe we should get you home.’’ Stara tries her best to convince a half drunk yn that it’s best for them to take her home, worry edged into the tone of her voice.

“Why? There's nooo one to go home to.’’ she slurs, stuffing her mouth full of popcorn before chasing it down with a cup of what she believed to be whiskey, but the alcohol had burned her tongue so raw she couldn’t tell the difference anymore.

The two girls give her an empathetic look before Demetra sends Stara off to search for Sunoo.

“Yn baby give me the cup.’’ Demetra spoke softly, reaching out her hand to take the cup from her friend, letting out a sigh of relief as she removed it successfully.

“I don’t want to go back to that house. What’s the fucking point.’’

“Baby you can’t just drown yourself in all this, I know we said you should get out, stop staying cramped up in your room but this isn’t what we meant babe you still have life to live.’’ she reasures her, gently brushing her mess of hair from her face.

“Bullshit, you know what I have to say? Fuck life before it fucks you.’’ She responds before falling back onto the couch, blowing raspberries with her tongue before the heaviness of her eyes had finally overcome her. A single tear came spilling from her eye as the weight of all the substances in her system had finally caved in on her and she fell asleep right where she lay.

The entire ride back to her place was completely silent, Demetra and Stara sat in the front while Sunoo sat in the back with her head resting in his lap. The three of them had already texted the rest of the group that they were leaving after making the collective decision to take her home. When they finally did arrive at her place they all worked as a collective, Sunoo carrying her up the stairs to her room, Stara getting her cleaned and dressed, and Demetra making sure she was snug in bed. After placing a glass of water and Advil at her bedside each of them made their way downstairs.

“I don’t think we should leave her alone tonight.’’ Stara finally speaks, putting an end to their ongoing silence.

“I don’t think we should leave her alone any night.’’ Sunoo, grabbles.

“Well what do we do we can’t be here with her every day we still have school and work? And Sunoo is still working on his piece for the auction?’’ Demetra sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose to relieve the tension in her head.

“Maybe we could do shifts?’’ Stara suggests making Demetra shake her head in response.

“Yeah but that’ll only work for so long, what happens if something comes up and none of us can look after her. I’m not saying she needs a babysitter or anything but someone has to make sure she doesn’t throw herself over the cliff she’s had herself dangling on the last few days.’’ Demetra looks over to Sunoo who seemed to have been deep in thought.

“I have someone in mind, she could be here by tomorrow morning but I know for a fact yn might absolutely hate it, but she may be our only option right now?’’ Sunoo warns, knowing damn well that if they took the risk of calling this certain someone neither of them would hear the end of it.

“Who?’’ not even taking the moment to discuss or think about it Sunoo pulls his phone from his pocket. His finger hovering over a familiar name that he hadn’t heard yn speak highly of since she was sixteen.

“Her grandma.’’

It wasn’t that yn hated her grandmother or anything; she just hadn’t had the relationship she’d hoped for with her. The only time she ever got to see her in person was birthdays or holidays and on the worst occasions funerals, any time other than that it had been facetime calls or gifts and letters sent from abroad. Then when she had turned sixteen she’d stopped contacting her, it wasn’t that her grandma had done anything she still texted and sent gifts but yn had been at that age by then where she didn’t want to be bothered by anyone.

The next morning the sun was peeking through her curtains, almost mocking her and testing her patience as her eyes cracked open, a splitting headache thumping at her head the moment her eyes peeled open. Her eyes shot to the cup of water at her bedside and she downed it almost immediately along with the pain meds.

Her head thumping with absolutely no recollection of last night, not even the moments leading up to her having been showered, and tucked into bed. Of course she knew that wasn’t a good thing; she had drunk so much to the point of memory loss but who was she to care? It wasn't like there was much worth remembering.

Throwing herself out of bed she doesn’t bother with brushing her teeth or washing her face, knowing she had no other place to be and nothing to do but rot in bed. She dragged her feet down the hallway and into the kitchen, missing the woman that sat at the day table entirely as she made a beeline for the fridge. Cracking it open and drinking lemonade straight from its bottle.

“Not even gonna get a cup?’’

“Jesus fucking christ.’’ The intrusion of another voice in her kitchen startled her, making her leap back from the fridge and drop the bottle.Her hands immediately shoot to her mouth, her heart beating so fast in her chest you’d have sworn she ran a marathon.

“Okay am I still drunk? Am I hallucinating right now..how much weed did i smoke last night” she questions herself, snapping in front of her own eyes to ensure what she was seeing was actually real.

“Not drunk, not high, not dreaming, have a seat.’’ her grandma ushers for her to sit down and her gaze immediately falls to the bottle of lemonade that had spilled all over the floor.

“Worry about it later come sit.’’ dismissing the liquid on the floor she takes a seat across from her grandmother. For a moment her grandma just sits there silently observing her while she sits there awkwardly.

“I should have been here, the moment I received that call I should have been here with you.’’ she immediately stiffens in her seat.

“It must have been hard for you to deal with it alone, if they had called me sooner i’d have been there..in the hospital with you watching her- you wouldn’t have to had.’’ she immediately stops herself upon hearing her granddaughter suck in a breath.

“Whatever you need, I'll be here. The arrangements leave them up to me, the assets, tending to this house, I'll worry about all of it for the next few months. But I need you to pull it together, go to school, and the alcohol needs to go. I know I haven’t been as present as your mother or your father but they have given you everything you needed to make sure you live your life virtuously and comfortably. Can you do that for me buggie?’’ buggie a nickname given to her that used to mean so much to her, now it just placed the weight of a thousand lifetimes on her shoulders.

“I can do it.’’ there were no other words to be exchanged between the two. What was understood didn’t need to be said, and from her grandmother's understanding she really needed someone right now.

For the last two months of yns grandmother staying there she was sure to keep her promise, she handled all of the funeral arrangements, she made sure the house was tended to and that all assets were transferred into yns name. The only differing factor from the promises made being that yn hadn’t kept her own. Yes she had kept clean for a week or two but eventually she had gone back to her own ways, up until the day of the funeral where she was painfully sober the entire day.

The day dragged on and on as she had to listen to endless prayers and sorrows in regards to her and her mother. None of it really mattered to her, it wasn’t like they could bring her mother back. After the service when everyone was gone she’d locked herself in her room, no texting or calling her friends, no thanking them for showing up today but of course they all understood she needed space. Eventually she cried herself to sleep, not waking up until the moon was well lit in the sky and playing peek-a-boo through her curtains. Like any other night for the past few months she dragged her feet down the staircase and this time on her way to the kitchen she found her grandma sat in the study seemingly talking to someone on the phone.

“When is the best time for you to get here? Ah your work shouldn’t be a problem i’ll ensure you and the boys or well set by the time you get here? Of course of course take all the time you need to tie up any loose ends before you get here yes?’’ shrugging it off she continued to shuffle her feet down the hallway until her grandmother's voice faded off with the distance. Downing a cup of water in the kitchen before returning to the sanctuary of her room.

Two days passed by and she had been deep in sleep until the sound of a loud moving truck pulled her out of her slumber.

“What the hell.’’ still half asleep she pulls on her shorts before shuffling down the stairs nearly tripping over her own feet as she makes her way down.

Through blurred vision she could make out her grandma standing in the middle of the foyer with some man she wouldn’t recognize even if the lord came down himself and introduced him.

“Well look who finally decided to wake up, evening dear, about time you decided to join the living again.’’ her grandma spoke, a hint of playfulness in her tone as she walked over to introduce her to the man she had been talking with moments prior.

“This is Mr. Park he’ll be staying in this house from now on.’’ if she hadn’t been awake before , she was absolutely awake now. Those words had drained every ounce of sleep from her body
