Classroom Connections Made Through World of Work Program to Children’s Future Careers
The World of Work program connects students to ideas and goals for their futures. Through the four level process World of Work presents, teachers guide their students through a series of lessons, activities, and experiences that help them understand what types of careers are available to them. The 4 levels of World of Work are simple: students hear about a career, tinker with it, meet a professional in that career, and then practice it. Virtual Meet a Pro chat sessions are always available for schools within the World of Work network to view, and sometimes industry professionals even come directly into the classroom to meet students!
Customer Service Representatives that are trained well and have skills to solve problems and care for customer concerns are in high demand. Deanna Reynolds from Team Kia and Team Mazda in El Cajon, California visited a classroom of third graders to share her experiences in the customer service field. The students in Mrs. Jones’ class were prepared to hear Deanna speak with many questions that impressed Deanna. The World of Work curriculum that is integrated into this classroom helps students think critically about their futures, so when they have Meet a Pro experiences they are better able to process how what the speaker is saying relates to their own future.
Deanna’s visit to Mrs. Jones’ classroom helped the students understand that good customer service practices are necessary in any field they may go into. Customer Service Representatives are important for a business’s growth and success, and Deanna was able to explain to students during this in-person Meet a Pro that the things they do and say at work really matter to a customer’s experience. Watch the highlights of Deanna Reynold’s trip to see the third graders in Mrs. Jones’ class at

World of Work Program Encourages Students to Pursue Wide Range of Careers
So many jobs that provide an excellent living are unseen by most people. Behind every successful classroom is a network of administrators, office assistants, and many other staff members who all work together to ensure teachers and students receive what they need for smooth instruction, including the people who work hard in distribution warehouses. At Cajon Valley Union School District in El Cajon, California, the Cajon Valley Warehouse is where teachers can request every material they might need to provide effective learning in their classroom. The Cajon Valley Warehouse manager, Kerry Oesterling, knows that his job is vital to helping the district provide the best education to its students, and through the World of Work’s Meet a Pro virtual field trips he gave students an inside look into his job.
As Cajon Valley Warehouse manager, Kerry says that he takes pride in his job because he knows that what he does affects so many kids positively. His job makes a difference to how students are taught, as teachers can relax knowing that their supplies will get to them on time and organized. The World of Work’s mission is to the find amazing career paths and connect them to the students who will achieve great things in that line of work. Through a four level process including learning about a career, having hands on experiences with that career, meeting a professional in that career, and then practicing what they know, the World of Work unites students with career options that align their personal strengths, interests, and values with their natural abilities. Kerry’s job as Cajon Valley Warehouse manager suits him because he loves helping people, keeping organized, and maintaining order in his workplace. Check out the highlights of the Meet a Pro Virtual Chat with Kerry and his team, powered by Nepris technology, at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bw7nP2cPywU.

Exposure to Career Options at Early Age
World of Work tackles problems seen in the education system head-on. Every student who passes through the World of Work will be armed with career options which they have learned about, received hands-on experiences with, met a professional in the career, and have practiced skills needed in that career.
By using the RIASEC model to determine employment personalities, the World of Work not only gives every child a chance to learn about many careers, but also helps every child determine which career fits their personality, strengths, skills, and values. Students involved in World of Work will not only know the how and what, but they will understand the why to everything they are learning. With each lesson they have at school, children will see how the lessons involving everyday subjects relate to a new field and why it is important to learn those skills and values.

With the World of Work curriculum, students gain experience centered around six careers per grade level. If a student were to have the World of Work integrated into their education from Kindergarten to 12th grade, that would be 78 career options that children will have a deep understanding of upon high school graduation.
The exposure each child gains to different careers helps them to go down a path where their strengths, interests, and values are needed in the workplace. World of Work helps every student see that no matter what their skill set is, every skill set is valuable and every person has a place in their community and in the workforce that is needed.
The 4 levels of World of Work are simple: students hear about a career, tinker with it, meet a professional in that career, and then practice it.

World of Work Changes Focus in Education to Realistic Careers for Every Student
Conversations about the lack of skilled young adults entering the workforce have been buzzing within the educational community. Many opportunities are missed because the focus in schools can often be on white collar careers that will not realistically suit every child’s unique strengths, interests, and values. The World of Work changes this pattern by exposing children to many different wonderful career paths.*The World of Work helps school districts to look at every child in a new way, where the unique strengths, interests, and values of those children are discovered and nurtured. Teachers come into the profession because they love kids and want to give them a great future. The World of Work makes a huge difference in students, and helps teachers turn their everyday curriculum into something with meaning and purpose for their future lives and careers.
With the World of Work, students can have exposure to careers they might not have even known existed, with opportunities to not only develop skills necessary for those careers, but also to meet with professionals. With this type of exposure, students can learn about themselves, the world of work, the world we live in, and their place is in those settings.
