Balali- somehow almost noiseless despite being wrapped up in quite the complicated, layered cape- touched down upon the… Could it be called old if the timber were replaced every second generation? Upon the pier-like structure overlooking the flight range, perhaps older than Rito village itself.

    For a moment she said nothing, staring almost reverently into the chasm that centuries of warriors had trained, wings folded tightly to their side to stave off the cold he’d grown no longer used to years ago. It was almost a shame, that nowadays it seemed the flight range mostly fulfilled its secondary purpose of helping fledgelings grow to be stronger flyers- the Rito military was but nonexistent, just the odd guard, and those who cared enough to learn to knock a bow for hunting alone.

    “Forgive me for showing up uninvited, but I heard rumours- like Revali months prior- you too, Inali Summerborn, former Third Warrior, had returned to the living” Balali’s voice was quiet, with only the slightest hint of the edge that should be present with all the recent anger that simmered in his heart- and the stress of keeping her beloved, though dying, people alive despite everything that could have having gone wrong. They were never supposed to be a leader, he had been comfortable and suited to the role of a supportive left hand man, and kind uncle to the young who’d taken on the near sacred duty of learning to wield the blade against those who’d tried to wipe them off the face of the land… But now- by the Winds none of this was relevant to the Now, she was here for a reason- so they bowed deeply out of respect before continuing.

    “It is almost a shame, I must admit, that in most texts they speak not of your name with the reverence it deserves- just… A footnote thrown in to thicken the length of what could, unfortunately, only be called unrequited love of a kingdom that at the end of the day, fell to its own hubris. Well, did fall, only to return a few years to force our people back into vassal hood…” Balali paused, straightening a bit “Considering all you’d done- how CLEAR it was that without you to train our people, we too would have fallen during the Calamity… it’s… It’s more than a shame, more than angering”

    “You were alive when we bowed.” Balali sighed, looking away, his shoulders drooping “Not by choice I imagine, even if the books I read as a hatchling seem to suggest we jumped at the opportunity- beh- nobody jumps at the opportunity to bleed so another may survive, only to make oneself a target. Beyond a shame…”

    “It’s only grown worse, we are practically but glorified couriers for Hyrule, which mind you decided to reassert its control after its Princess reappeared one day despite everyone having been fine for decades- we were FEARED once, respected- eck, ‘can’t even go into the towns out east without being compared to someone’s pet bird”

    She let their theatrics slowly fade away- though let was somewhat untrue, true frustration and anger poked through his act.

   “I’ve heard what we once were, tales that I heard drove my mother to be exiled with my egg far north to freeze or starve- and wonder, what could we be again? Certainly more than servants hm?”

    “… I have associates who, with I, have been working to free our people, and the others forced to bow. I wish I could promise results, but I must be transparent, we are greatly outnumbered… But nonetheless I, and all of us, would greatly appreciate your help”

Inali walks out across the platform of the Flight Range, the click-click-click of talons on wood barely audible over the roar of the wind. A bit of the early summer snows swirled in the air currents to the west. She looked up at Balali with her one eye, the scar surrounding the other one barely visible behind the eyepatch. She herself said nothing for a few moments, considering her response; she had never met such a Rito before, but if what she said was true...

"I have... for a few months, at least. How I came to be like this is irrelevant, save that I was not always like this and will not always be. It is a shame that I have been mostly forgotten--has Karranis himself suffered the same fate? But the fact that everything he fought for has been for nothing... and with Karranis long dead, Revali or I would be the natural choice for First Warrior."

Inali circles around the platform, appraising Balali. There was perhaps not any sign of treachery, but some part of Inali knew that this was too good to be true. A perfect opportunity to continue what Karranis had believed in, to earn the respect she deserved, to be First Warrior herself? She knew that she would never have even considered such a thing before Marina had sent her that letter, but as Inali, some opportunities were simply too good to give up.

Inali's curiosity got the better of her. "Show me these associates," she began, "and what I have to work with. The same logic that applied when the Calamity Struck applies now, does it not? The Kingdom of Hyrule is yet weak, yet every day that passes it grows stronger. If what you say is true, if our people can be liberated as you say, then we must strike while the iron is hot. We will have to see if the Elder or Champion Revali can be persuaded; otherwise, we will have to plan out a siezure of power."

(I love writing balali as just a silly guy here because canonically he’s only a silly guy to his fellow yiga but he’s actually like, super fucked up, lock this man away and throw out the key frfr)

I have a question for you. Are you quire prepared to get your rear kicked?

I would ask the same of you, but we both know you were not when the time came.

I am curious, what did you feel more in those final moments. Was it pain of the body, or the shame of failure?

Now that you're a Yiga, are you going to get to keep your Great Eagle Bow, or are you going to have to use a Duplex Bow as long as you're a Yiga?

Oh, I left the Great Eagle bow with Teba - it simply wouldn't be appropriate for a Yiga to wield it.

Unfortunatly, it seems their choice of the Duplex bow are simply too flimsy for my riggorous training reigeme. They aren't built for my caliber of archery prowess.

I've broken nearly 600 of them just this morning. Terrible shame, they're nearly all out. Thank goodness they have me to assist with quality control. I supose they'll have to make do with their melee weapons.

Do you have any idea who I am? I am the Rito Champion; I don't do low-level scoundral work.

Besides, I'm very busy at the moment. This secret base is utterly unusable. I tried to wash the sweat off of this blasted uniform using your bizaare 'washing machinery' - turns out you're not suposed to add bleach. How was I suposed to know that? Fortunatly it means that everyones ugly uniforms have turned rather a bright shade of pink and purple rather than the usual red and black- it's a major improvement if I do say so myself.

And since this whole building is so hidiuously drab, I figured I'd redecorate to match the new aesthetic. I can't possibly get any real work done staying in such a dark, dusty space like this, it's utterly miserably. A touch of glittery paint should do the job of opening up the space a bit. I even found one that glows in the dark - that'll make it more accessable to we Rito.

Oh and further more, the food here is repulsive. Everything the chef prepared was banana based; I can't stand the things. I took the liberty of freeing everyone from the vile slop by cancelling all of your banana orders and replacing them with an order for apples instead - the superior fruit. About ten thousand of them should arrive by tomorrow morning.

How would flight work in a yiga costume? (This is probably a better question yigabalali) Wouldn't the latex restrict movement?

Well I can't speak for anyone else, but I just cut off the sleeves and legs to the costume they sent me. It took rather a while to modify this ridiculous thing to even fit me - and you have no idea how swelteringly hot and uncomfortable it feels to wear latex overtop feathers. I'm dreading making the venture to the Gerudo Desert like this, I might end up cooked like a turkey.

One of the pests told me I'm suposed to learn shapeshifting and teleportation using ancient Yiga runes or something next, so I'll let you know how that goes I supose. In the meantime if anyone knows a good lawyer who specialises in breaking contracts, do put me in touch.
