From what @paramountinplace wrote in their post about tantrums: The idea of Akilah just absolutely going completely wild when she isn't allowed to carry out her God Given Duty to care for every animal in her radius and screaming and stomping her feet and sobbing SO heartbrokenly bc doesn't anyone even CARE that there's possibly a sick/hurt/abandoned cat/dog/pigeon/rat/racoon??
Like what do you MEAN Van, that she can't go to the store at midnight bc she needs dogfood to feed to a hedgehog, what do you MEAN that she cant take the steak that is being saved for dinner to coax that limping cat to come closer and be helped, what do you MEAN that Jackie is annoyed you took her best shoes out of the shoebox to make a nest for an orphaned possum?
She feels genuinly so upset- like her whole faith in the goodness of the world and of her best friends is being shaken and it's so much for her to deal with and Tai is the only one who is allowed to help or to come near her. She's very good at judging the exact moment that it goes from 'Akilah stomping on her foot if she gets too close' to 'Akilah melting into her arms and sobbing into her neck.'
Tai picking her up really helps calm her down (once, of course, theyve got past the worst of it) and once she's calm enough, Tai will get her some milk (never juice) and some tissues and clean her face and they'll make a compromise (usually involving leaving whatever til morning) and THEN Tai can take her up to bed.
Akilah nearly always sleeps in Mari's bed after something like this- even when it's all sorted out, its soothing to be cuddled up to her ride-or-die who has only stopped butting in on her behalf after a LOT of talks and punishment, and Mari will always wake up just enough to make room for Akilah and whichever stuffed animals shes brought with her.
If Mari is away or not in her own bed for whatever reason, Tai will sit with Akilah til she's asleep and hold her hand while stroking her forehead. It took a couple of faux-tantrums for Akilah to learn that Tai will also just sit with her like this if she asks her too also, she doesnt need to be actively crying or upset. Usually if she asks for Tai to stay with her at bedtime, it's because she's seen something sad during the day.

I wanna add on to the Tai learning Spanish for Mari HC!!!!!!!!
Mari getting fussy cause shes tired and is fighting Tai about taking a nap so Tai starts to talk to her in Spanish to get her to calm down some and Mari just staring at her all teary and wide eyed(🥹<—this emoji) and is just so so so happy about it and Tai is able to get her down for a nap.
I feel like Shauna, Akilah, Nat, and Misty pick up on it the best when Tai is teaching them and Akilah and Shauna notice that the reason why Mari tends to lash out and get super super duper upset is because she sometimes can’t verbalize her big feelings in English and is just frustrated with herself.
Mari shyly going up to Tai or Van and lightly tugging on their sleeves and asking for a bottle in Spanish or just being more comfortable with asking for more ‘babyish’ things in Spanish cause she feels like none of the other littles will make fun of her if they can’t understand what she’s asking for
(Mari speaking Spanish when she’s regressed is very very dear to me Mari in general is very dear to me)
That's all so adorable anon, thank you!!
I love the idea of asking for stuff in spanish being easier, asking for a bottle not feeling as babyish etc- thats so sweet! And Tai speaking to Mari in spanish helping her to settle- adorable!

Shauna stepping in to help when Mari is yelling at everyone who even steps near the sitting room bc she doesnt want them to see her wet pants and bc shes upset she's REALLY lashing out. And Shauna is just the perfect person to deal with it bc trying to be NICE to Mari rn will get your head bitten off but Shauna just saunters in with a jug of water seemingly not even noticing Mari and when Mari yells at her to get out, Shauna is so casual and normal, like 'Omg stfu and chill, I'll be out in a moment, Tai wants me to change the water in the vases-' and 'accidently' stumbles and spills her jug and omg it's where Mari is sitting? Shit Mar, I'm sorry, I didnt even notice you, omg I got you drenched, im sorry-
And the relief of knowing that she has a plausible excuse now and no one needs to know at all is huge- and ofc Mari bitches a tiny bit, telling Shauna the water was SO cold and doesn't she look where she's going?
And Shauna just apologises some more and offers a hand to help Mari up and offers to run her a hot bath with her fancy new bubble bath to warm up from her unexpected shower to make up for it-
And Shauna ends up taking Mari upstairs, tucked under her arm and surreptitiously wiping the last of her tears on the edge of Shauna's flannel and of course Shauna doesn't notice! Bc she's being so normal so obviously she hasn't noticed anything and Mari's secret is safe.
Maybe Shauna is a bit gentler than usual when Mari gravitates to her side after her bath- like she wouldn't normally usually cuddle up to Shauna and hold onto her stuffed tiger and suck her thumb and Shauna definitely wouldnt normally not comment- but that's ok, Shauna probably still just feels bad for spilling on her or something.
Mari being practically inconsolable every time she has an accident…even if everyone says she’s not a baby she still FEELS like one. And of course cause it’s Mari she can cry for hours and hours. Sometimes she absolutely refuses to move from the spot she’s in or will get super mad at everyone and make them leave the room just so they don’t notice the damp spot on her pants.
Aw, poor Mari. I'd imagine it's worse when it's around the others, because she can sorta play off a nighttime accident as having not happened, but that's not the case with daytime ones. She gets so defensive. If anyone says anything about it she gets furious, even if they're trying to help.

Cg!shauna giving lil mel piggy backs wherever they go, long hiking walk with everyone? Mels tired and asleep on shaunas back on the way home
Ohhh I love that!
I think generally, Mel would love hiking and being outdoors, exploring the woods and playing games and climbing trees and all that good stuff. Like I think they all would enjoy it but I can imagine Mari being initially more reluctantly (until she sees Lottie is up for it: she doesnt want Lottie to think shes lame) and Jackie maybe needing to be bribed a bit to come (although Shauna asking her makes her more likely to do it for Shauna) but Mel is super keen.
I can also see her getting tired out the most quickly too: like she still is happy to be there, she doesn't even realise she's getting tired, its more that everyone keeps being mean and leaving her behind a bit when theyre walking (not on purpose! But mels walking speed goes a lot slower suddenly) and rather than just catching up like she usually would it makes her a bit pouty and sad, and when they're playing a game as they walk she cant think up her answers quickly enough and Mari smirks which makes her yell that Mari is being mean and when Tai gently tells her it's ok, just settle down, she's even more pouty because its so unfairrr and when she trips she has to try so hard not to cry even though shes just landed on very soft pine needles.
Maybe Tai suggests they take a break at this point (Mel is almost verging on a tantrum and demanding a bandaid and Tai is gently explaining that she doesnt need one-) and Shauna looks over to see Mel is huddled up with her arms wrapped around her knees, sniffling and sucking her thumb and looking really tired and sad and a bit overwhelmed and so Shauna goes and sits with her, puts an arm around her so Mel can snuggle up into her side and requests a veryyy quick story from Van while they rest....and then when it's time to get up, she offers Mel a ride and Mel cheers up almost immediately bc she's getting special attention from Shauna AND she doesn't need to walk anymore-and she dozes off pretty quickly, even though her position isn't the most comfy. When they get to the car, Mel gets into the car right after Shauna, snuggles back down on her shoulder and falls right back to sleep almost right away.

Pt 2
‘Hey, it’s ok-’ Van’s hand cups her wet cheek at the same time as she tries to hand Tai her cone to hold- clumsily, letting go too soon, and Tai fumbles it and Van’s cone splats to the ground too and that’s it, the thing that makes Mel burst into proper sobbing because she’s ruining everything-
‘C’mon sweetie-’ Tai wraps an arm around her shoulders, firmly leading her away from the icecream van: thank god at least that they’d decided to get icecream from the van in the parking lot. ‘It’s all alright, it’s fine-’
Except it’s not fine, she’s not fine-
At the car, Tai grabs Van’s flannel from the backseat. She has it covering the front seat and she’s gently sitting Mel down on it sideways before Mel can even think or protest. The embarrassment of it sears her, speeding up her breathing and her tears.
‘Let’s try to calm down, ok honey?’
She tries but she can’t, she’s going to ruin Van’s shirt if she stays sitting on it and then Van will be annoyed at her and-
‘Mel. Kid.’ Van crouches in front of her on the asphalt and takes one of Mel’s hands in each of hers- then relinquishes one so that Mel can jam her thumb into her mouth. It’s babyish but she can’t stop crying and she needs to ground herself somehow, she needs the familiar comfort- ‘Sit still ok?’
She makes herself stop trying to get up.
‘Good girl. Now. Do I look mad?’
She shakes her head tearily.
‘Does Tai look mad?’
Another shakes.
Even through the whirl of fear and anxiety and upset, she has to admit- they don’t. Tai is biting her lip, her face soft and creased with sympathy, one hand on Mel’s shoulder, her thumb rubbing little circles.
‘And are we acting like we’re mad at you?’
‘Nu-uh.’
‘No we’re not. Because this is nothing to be mad about, remember?’
This nod is a little harder. Van moves a little so that Tai can pass Mel some tissues. She presses them to her swollen eyes, sniffling, feeling stupid, feeling so small. Wishing, not for the first time, that she was little enough for Van to pick her up fully to cuddle her, even if she’d ruin Van’s outfit too.
Maybe Van picks up on it- somehow, the way she can somehow read Mel’s mind sometimes- because she leans into the car to wrap Mel up in a huge hug, in a position that probably isnt super comfy, one hand cupping the back of Mel’s head and one gently rubbing her back.
‘S-sorry-’
‘Shhhh no apologies buddy, we’re good.’
She and Tai are being so nice but Mel knows that they’re surely disappointed in her, they must regret inviting her out and-
‘Listen.’ Now Tai is leaning in close, her breath tickling Mel’s ear. ‘We absolutely can go home now if you’d like to- that would be fine, absolutely fine- but…’ She pauses. ‘If you want to just change clothes in the bathroom, we could stay out a bit longer. What do you say? We could go get some better icecream since you lost yours. The place that does the cherry kind you like is still open….’
Mel can feel Van tense up with eagerness before forcing herself to relax again and feign nonchalance: ‘Only if you’re feeling like it, ok kid?’
‘Really?’
Tai nods. ‘Of course! It’s not your fault you guys missed out- and my cone is basically soup now anyway-’
She’s smiling like she means it, like she really does want to keep hanging out with her, even though she had an accident, even though she cried like a baby about it.
She thinks They like me, they still like me- and the thought sends warmth through her that is enough to chase away some of the cold scared anxious sick feeling that an accident inevitably brings on.
‘O-ok’
‘Yay!’ Van squeezes her again in jubilation, then pulls back and offers a hand. ‘You wanna come with me to get cleaned up first?’
She nods and lets Van pull her up and sling an arm over her shoulders.
It’s ok, she’s ok.
Maybe a fic idea?Little Melissa and CG taivan going to the park. And little Mel wanting to impress two of her favorite people by going on the slides and swinging the highest. But she’s so excited and hyper she doesn’t realize she hasn’t went potty at all. And while getting ice cream a accident happens and little Mel feels so bad for “ruining” their outing. But tai and Van just reassure her (I love your stuff!)
Pt 1: Blame
Really, Tai blamed herself. She hadn’t reminded Mel to use the bathroom before they left for the park- she’d meant to but as she opened her mouth to do so, Mari had run into the kitchen with a nosebleed that seemed like it was trying to rival Thermopylae and her gentle reminder had been forgone for frantically asking Mel to grab her some paper towels.
(Mari’s rainbow shirt would never be the same again. Neither would two tiles of the kitchen floor.)
She HAD reminded to fill Mel’s green waterbottle before they left- it was, putting it lightly, not a cool day- and she HAD reminded both her and Van to keep drinking (no one wanted a repeat of last week when Van had crumpled to the floor half way through an argument about whether or not a pokemon could beat a digimon in a fight- at the time, Shauna had actually thought she was just being dramatic) and of course Mel had listened to her, because Mel was, on the whole, almost painfully obedient.
(Which was fine when it came to things like chores and bedtime and teeth-brushing and slightly less than fine when it came to things like Mel agreeing to lie on the ground so that Shauna could prove to Mari that she absolutely definitely could jump her bike off their home-made ramp.)
In any case, when Mel suddenly froze two seconds after being handed her icecream cone and frantically clutched at her pants- icecream cone dropping to the kerb in the process- and whimpered, Tai had felt nothing but guilt.
She could have stopped this- by being more responsible, by being more diligent- and she HADN’T.
It was her fault.
*
Van definitely blamed herself.
She was right to, too: it wasn’t as if she didn’t already KNOW that Mel listened to her more than she listened to any of the others. To Mel, what Van said was Gospel and she KNEW that if she’d told Mel it was ok to stop their tetris marathon to take a break before they went to the park, Mel would have listened to her. But she’d SO wanted to see if she could beat her high score and so….she hadn’t said anything, reasoning that if Mel needed to go, she’d have said something.
Except she knew and Tai knew and Mel knew and everyone knew that this wasn’t always true. She hadn’t ignored the fact exactly, but she hadn’t tried especially hard to remember it.
And if she’d been less selfish, not let herself get so invested in their ‘who can swing higher’ competition and actually paid attention, maybe she’d have been able to pick up on Mel’s slight wriggliness.
(She hadn’t even won the competition either- Tai had left both her and Mel in the dust. So it wasn’t even like it was worth it.)
Except by the time Mel’s slightly wriggliness became out-and-out squirming, they’d already been in line for icecream and she was already in the middle of digging coins out of her pockets (while also enjoying her usual struggle with keeping track of how much everything cost and what the coins in her hand added up to and how many other coins would be needed to cover the rest- if she pulls out a fifty cent piece she’ll need this much but if the coin turned out to be a nickel she’d need THIS much) and she figured they could wait a moment for the icecream guy to hand over their cones and to pay for them and THEN she’d insist they need to find a bathroom right away and she could just say that she needed to go so as to not embarrass Mel-
Except by THEN, Mel’s pants were already wet and Mel’s face was crumpling into tears and her icecream was melting onto the ground and the icecream guy was loudly pointing out that she’d underpaid and that he needed another quarter.
So she’d failed on every count.
It was her fault.
**
Mel blamed herself. Because of course it was no ones fault but her own.
She’d been SO excited when Tai had mentioned that she and Van were planning on going to the park and since her class was cancelled now, did she want to come?
It would have been so easy for Tai to have just said nothing and been able to enjoy alone time with just Van, since when they’d originally made the offer to everyone, no one else had been free.
But she’d noticed that Mel was still at home, she’d actually gone out of her way to let Mel know the invitation was still open even though she absolutely didn’t have to, and she hadn’t even ASKED Van first!
And yet when Van had found out that Mel was coming too, she’d actually beamed like it was the best news ever that the trip was going to be three of them rather than two.
Mel isn’t like painfully insecure of anything: she does know that the others like her a lot, maybe even love her, and that they like hanging out with her and don’t just let her hang around to be polite.
But still.
These reminders mean so much to her.
Except now she’s ruined it- just because she hadn’t even remembered to go to the bathroom before leaving the house although they all almost always get reminded to go before they go anywhere.
(Van has told her lots of times that it’s not just for her- that she herself is, in her own words, ‘super bad at knowing like….anything about my own body dude, you know that-’, that it’s not as if the others don’t need to be reminded too. The difference, Mel thinks but doesn’t say, is that while Jackie and Mari might end up squirming and demanding they stop five minutes after leaving the house if they aren’t reminded to go, Mel is usually the only one who will come home in different pants to the ones she left the house in.)
She hadn’t even realised she’d needed to go so badly until suddenly she DID and then it was almost too late to say anything- because they were in a queue and Van was literally mid conversation with the icecream man and how could she interrupt right then?
And then it was absolutely too late to say anything.
And she’d dropped her icecream- wasting Van’s money, wasting Van’s effort in making the payment when counting loose change could sometimes be a struggle and moreso when she felt under pressure, wasting the whole day because she’d turned what could have just been a nice day out into the boring routine of having to go clean up.
She was sure they both regretted inviting her out now.

ooo, since Mari speaks Spanish because of Alexa being Mexican, that must mean that Travis speaks Portuguese, since his actor is Brazilian! Could you tell me some headcanons about that?
I'm offering this one up to anyone has any thoughts about Travis headcanons: he, Javi and Scott are characters I'm not really into I'm afraid. I think @cryingatwindermerepeaks and @spinnydino written Travis headcanons before though, maybe they have some thoughts?

Hi hi, what Spanish accent does Mari have and what Spanish do the other Yellowjackets learn to speak to her?
So honestly i know like nothing about spanish- i did french and german as a kid and being english, there are far fewer people who speak spanish here compared to the us, particularly people from south america and when i got this ask i was like 'Oh yeah i guess there ARE different kinds of spanish/different kinds of spanish accent!'- so im going to throw this back to you, anon: send me another ask telling me pls!

can you maybe write more about lottie and her pushing problems lol (maybe someone like mari or jackie snatches their toy back cause lottie took it and boom) maybe lottie has a chart for every time she doesn’t push someone when they make her upset lmao
I think Lottie's go-to reaction to anyone doing anything she doesnt like is to shove them over: like Mari takes the tv remote and insists she IS gonna put on Winx Club even though it's Lottie's turn to pick? Push Mari over. Shauna takes the last box of raisins when Lottie wants them? Push Shauna over (and then get pushed down bc while Mari is angry-crying, Shauna launches into fight mode). Jackie messes up Lottie's toy arrangement? Push Jackie over (and then get pushed by Shauna again bc she is Protective of Jackie.)
Nat tries so hard to teach her differently but it's also hard for her bc any violence is triggering for her and it makes her upset seeing Lottie push someone smaller over and have them collapse into tears. Her distress then makes Lottie upset too and it's a whole mess.
I think Laura Lee would teach her to fold her arms when she gets annoyed so that she CANT push anyone and she'd be rewarded with a sticker or something for using her words rather than giving in to her instict. When she DOES push the others over, she has to go and sit away from the others for a while which she really really hates: she'd much rather she just get shoved back :(

YJ HC: Tai secretly learning Spanish for Mari and teaching the others basic words and phrases that they’ve heard Mari say a lot.
Ohhhh thats adorable, i love that! Tai so would- and i feel like she'd be good at languages too. Mari would lightly make fun when she mispronounces things but also she'd be clutching Tai's hand really hard and looking so so happy that Tai would know she is thrilled. It would make the others wished they thought about it before bc of how much Mari lights up over it.
Success of the others picking up the words would....differ. Like Lottie and Jackie canonically suck at French- but I like imagining Lottie knows some Spanish bc she had a Spanish nanny as a kid (who mayve gotten fired for teaching her in the first place :( )

Gen and Van getting really bad carsickness when they aren’t the ones driving
Ohh I've written about Gen getting carsick but I never thought of Van getting sick too! i think itd help Gen that shes not the only one getting sick BUT also it makes it hard bc they cant BOTH drive: the best compromise is swtichign off and whoever doesnt drive sits up front too. Van would esp find it frustrating getting sick if she then has to change clothes and negotiate buttons and laces and zips and stuff- and she'd hate feeling not in control. Throwing up can make her upset enough to end up feeling younger and Gen always cries when she gets sick bc she hates it so so much. She'd also hate the others being mad they never ever get to sit up front anymore :(

Lottie being the sweetest little baby until someone takes her toy and then she screams and cries like there’s no tomorrow, even if it wasn’t hers to begin with (she just doesnt understand cause shes so itty bittyyyy)
Oh for sure, Lottie would absolutely make a massive fuss- but also i think her FIRST reaction before crying would be to just push whoever has taken the toy or whatever over, like she just fully shoves them to the ground and esp if whoever it was was taking their OWN toy back, this just adds insult to injury (literally, if the shoving has resulted in a scraped knee or whatever)
And Lottie isnt TRYING to be mean or anything! She doesnt want to hurt anyone! She just reacts without thinking XD Ofc after she'll feel really bad she made someone upset and she'll try really hard to make it up to them, like she'll shove Jackie to the ground and then leave little bunches of flowers on her pillow later to say sorry bc she is also super sweet <3

Yes yes! And when shaunas big she's always extra soft to little mel and jackie in return..big bear hugs are her speciality
Shauna would be SO soft with Mel and Jackie. Like she's not at all Not Gentle or anything but she's not like the person everyone thinks of when they want someone to cuddle with. Except for Mel and Jackie bc Shauna is so extra indulgent with them and they love her so much. Like sometimes she'll walk behind Mel or Jackie and pick them up in a massive hug, right off their feet, and they love it, it makes them giggle so much :3

On top of Mari struggling with forgetting English words she also struggles a lot with processing somethings that the others say or reading things cause it’s in English not in Spanish. For a hot minute the others thought she might also have dyslexia along with Van but no she just needs a few extra minutes to translate things in her head is all.
Oh I love that! I can imagine Mari being like 'What no Im not dumb omg-' and that leads to a stern reminder that dyslexia doesnt mean being dumb at ALL. But yeah it can be hard for her too, esp if the others forget and are kind of impatient, even accidently :(
