one of my biggest headcanons that i can’t be dissuaded from is that trillian has thought arthur was gay since the moment she met him at that party. she never brought it up bc there was never any reason to and bc she never met fenchurch she has never been presented with a reason to think otherwise. she also thinks ford and arthur have been in an on-again, off-again relationship for the entire series and has never talked about it bc she thinks ford and/or arthur don’t want to talk about it and she doesn’t want to be impolite. when ford complains to her about arthur in between ‘thanks for all the fish’ and ‘mostly harmless,’ he’s vague about who arthur has gone off with, so trillian thinks arthur and ford had a fight, and arthur has left him. so she just says vague things back to ford like, “don’t worry, give arthur time” and “he’ll come around just give him space” to make ford feel better.

my version of trillian has been living a different story than any of the other characters in the books.

An element of Hitchhiker's Guide that I've always loved is that the Earth never stops being important. Even when it's been destroyed, even when the prologue goes out of its way to emphasise its insignificance. It's Deep Thought's supercomputer for finding the Question, it's where Arthur and Ford end up in prehistoric times, it's where most of So Long and Thanks for all the Fish happens, it's where [spoilers] all the characters (minus Zaphod) are killed at the end of Mostly Harmless.

Arthur, Trillian, and Random all long to go back there in varying degrees. Even Ford, who cannot stop calling the place a dump, goes back just to retrieve some of his favourite bits of Earth culture (movies and a lot of beer).

Maybe it's down to the fact that it's easier to write about the Earth than it is anywhere else, but I do appreciate that for a series predicated on Earth being gone it really does care about the Earth a whole lot. Even though I am ambivalent about how it ends, there is something I like about how it is when every version of the Earth is wiped out completely that the story ends.

Sometimes I remember that one of my all-time favorite book series ended with an AU fanfic that the author wrote of his own work. Self-love, I guess, be your own fan, but to this day I haven't been able to get through that book.

the iconic thing about the twelfth doctor is that when he's on earth, he's getting middle school kids to save the earth via class project and having beef with 14 yr olds and losing. and then he sets foot in gallifrey and literally the actual military is like we're all going to die.
