crazy how the composite bow is straight up viable in dark souls 1
like I never had any significant roadblocks, closest thing were nitos skeletons so far. I do have a divine shortbow +5, but on account of my stats being not leveled for that at all, it does 13 damage.
didn't take too long without it anyway cuz the dark wood grain ring is really good and I'm so sad they didn't bring back the fun flipping animations in later games. there's similar items in ds3 and er but without the animation changes. (carthus blood ring in ds3 and crucible wing talisman in er, they give you more rolling iframes, 30 lower damage absorption and they're active at any equip load, but no fun flipping animations...)
anyway, poison arrows are also really useful cuz they proc quickly enough and aren't too expensive. in dark souls 3 however they're completely unusable. it takes ~60 to poison the wyvern in high wall according to someone on fextralife and I believe it cuz I pumped like 30 into the deacons of the deep pope and got nothing cuz they only do 30 buildup that doesn't even scale with luck. and they cost 120 souls a pop. actually makes me wonder if they even playtested them.
in dark souls 1 they're really good though and I definitely recommend having a couple on you cuz you're only gonna need like 3 at most to poison something if it's not immune. definitely worth the 100 souls each.
