Summary: Anne and Luz try to sign up for the band's auditions, but the parameters have changed.

"Luz, I think I'm going to die."

Luz and Anne stood side-by-side in the longest line they'd ever seen. It stretched out onto the street and had to curve to not go into the road.

"Oh come on, don't say that! It's just a little long, and we have a decent place." It was true. Luz had insisted they get up at 5 a.m. so the band didn't close auditions before they even went on. Anne had to drink a couple energy drinks to even remember what they were going to do.

They had practiced nonstop for a month, gotten singing "tutorials" (they were pretty good) from the Internet, learned how to play the guitar... so this had better pay off.

The line shifted again, and Anne and Luz went on with it. This process of shifting and going along with it happened for quite some time before they were finally- finally!- at the front of the line, right in front of an old lady who looked like the band's director.

"Hello, ladies! Just the two of you?"

"Yup! I'm Anne Boonchuy," Anne said, spelling the last name out before going to Luz's name, "and this is Luz Noceda. That's L-u-z, N-o-c-e-d-a."

"Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. And- oh, pardon me. I just got a text from the band." The lady put her glasses on and inspected her phone.

Luz bounced on her feet.

"This is so exciting! I can't wait to perform!" She pulled out her phone. "I'm gonna text Amity. Wanna take a picture?"

"Sure." Anne made a peace sign, and the photo snapped.

"What should the caption be? 'Waiting in line for the audition?' That's pretty goo-"

"Ladies?"

The manager had turned back to see them.

"Oh...sorry."

"Do not worry. Unfortunately, it seems the band doesn't have any more space for duos. You'll either have to split up or get a new partner."

Luz sighed. "One second, ma'am." She pulled Anne to the side. "We can't split up! We worked so hard, we can't work solo!"

"Yeah, that's what I thought too. Let's ask for another solo person to join us."

The girls turned back.

"We'd like another person. To join us. Ma'am. If there are any solos in line. You kno-"

Anne elbowed Luz before she could keep adding to the sentence.

"Alright. Let me look for someone." The director scanned the line. "You there! With the purple hair!"

Someone responded. "Me?"

"Yes, you. Could you come here?"

The person stepped out of line, revealing herself. She actually had purple-to-pink hair, contrary to what the manager had said. She wore a yellow crop top with a cat sign on it, a black shirt, a blue hoodie tied around her waist, and pink pants that were the same color as her hair.

"The band does not have any more space for duos. Can you join these two young ladies over here?" She nodded to Luz and Anne.

"Uh… sure." She walked over to the clipboard and wrote her name down.

"Thank you, and I'm sorry for the inconvenience. All three of you. Go into that hallway, and get a number- one for all of you. When your number is called, go into the room. You'll know which one." She nodded to the left hallway. "Next!"

Anne, Luz, and the purple-haired girl got somewhat rudely shoved out of line.

After about a minute of silence of walking down the hallway, the purple-haired girl spoke.

"Uh, hi. I'm Miko. Miko Kubota." She gave her hand.

Luz shook it. "I'm Luz!" The way she said it, you could tell she was glad Miko started the conversation.

"I'm Anne. I'm singing, and Luz is playing guitar."

"Cool! I'm playing clarinet!" After saying this, Miko seemed to regret saying it. "I mean, it sounds weird, I know, but the clarinet is pretty cool. Easy to learn. Sounds nice."

"Don't worry about it. I played oboe for a year back in fifth." Luz dismissively waved her hand. "No one had even heard of oboe back there!"

As Anne watched the two converse about band troubles and instruments, she felt tension decrease. Miko was sudden. Miko was new.

But most of all, Miko was a great addition.
