The Curse Of The Big Three’s Kids.
(I’m an author btw so if enough people want we to expand on this/write a fic I can do so :] <3)
For as long as I have read all of the books I’ve always had this head cannon in the back of my head and I’m not exactly sure why no one else is connected the dots in the same way I have so I’ve decided I might as well share what I like to call,
The curse of the big three’s kids.
It’s already established that gods will never punish other gods for mistakes that God has done. They will punish the surrounding mortals or demigods that God keeps close to them. So my train of thought leads me to think that the Styx will not punish the big three for them breaking their oath, or what they perceive is breaking the oath. They will punish their kids. And in the way that it would hurt the God the most.
Their own domain.
We can see this in how Jason is afraid of being in a role of leadership despite his father being the leader of camp Jupiter. and how being in that role of leadership at camp Jupiter led to him being chosen by Hera/Juno to switch places and go to camp half blood, losing all his memories in the process and never truly gaining back.
How Thalia is afraid of heights despite her father being the God of the sky and thunder. How watching her little brother Jason fall off that cliff probably even blocked her from ever being able to unlock her ability to fly.
How Nico was afraid of the dark despite his father being the God of the underworld. How using his shadow travel too much could lead to him even fading away. Installing a fear in him of something that probably would have brought him comfort.
How Hazel was afraid of picking up the gems and precious metals from the ground despite her father being the God of riches. How her first death was literally being crushed by her own precious metals. Making her shy away from ever using those .
How Percy was afraid of drowning despite his father being the God of the sea. And how in the son of Neptune he had almost drowned. Making it so that his fear almost overtook him leading to him to temporarily forget that he could breathe underwater later on.
And I always imagine the big three’s reaction to this. What they would think if they found out their own demigod was afraid of their domain. How their own domain had hurt them so much. The very thing they control.
So I think that is the penance.
After all, there are dire consequences to breaking an oath from the Styx.
If the gods can’t die, well then the Styx will just have to get a bit creative, won’t she?
I mean, what could hurt more to a God than their own blood shying away from the very thing they exist for?
