This blog will explore the importance of Equity, Diversity, and inclusion in the workplace. The reader will learn about the significance of Equity, Diversity, and inclusion in the Workplace and our personal lives. While reading this blog, they will become aware of the necessity of these in our workplace culture to ensure a more gendered society.
Equity in a workplace means equal and fair treatment of employees in the workplace. Where there is a transparency between the employer and employee regarding the job, where everyone is given access to equal opportunities irrespective of once ethnicity, culture, and language. According to Amelia Ransom,” The diversity-inclusion-equity trio aims to help every employee contribute to a shared company vision. Let's say achieving "50% of women in leadership" is part of your mission statement for the next fiscal year. By proactively taking steps towards equity, companies would have a better chance of reaching this goal. Hiring managers would focus on recruiting female leaders, L&D professionals could outline leadership development tracks for women, and you could redesign your benefits package to support women across their career trajectory. This boosts your chances of reaching that 50% mark, ultimately gaining from the professional contributions of these women in the workplace”.
Equity in the workplace would mean an employee will feel like a part of the family and they are motivated to do their job sincerely without taking any advantage. So, in such a positive workplace environment, your boss will know your political stance, whether you prefer Justin Trudeau or Andrew Scheer as a leader? Here it shows how the employer knows about once the employee’s needs and desires.
Diversity in the workplace refers to a company that purposely employs a team that comprises of individuals of a different race, gender, ethnicity, education, sexual orientation, and other
attributes. In, “The Importance of Diversity and Inclusion in the Workforce”, it provides 6 reasons why Diversity and Inclusion are significant in the workplace. According to an article published in Organizational Consulting, a diverse workforce benefits society. “Today, one of the biggest concerns for CEOs worldwide is not having the right people to run and grow their businesses. So, they’re starting to look to diversity as a way to address this issue. Besides, 86% of millennial females and 74% of millennial males consider company policies on diversity, equality, and inclusion during their job hunt, which is especially important because millennial's are now the largest generation in the U.S. workforce. Regarding society as a whole, the nonprofit organization Catalyst found that increasing the level of female employment could help raise GDP by 5% in the U.S., 11% in Italy and 27% in India, even before you start to quantify the positive social impacts that would arise from this increase”.
A diverse workforce is ensuring greater productivity due to the contribution of the team by coming up with unique thinking and a comprehensive worldview. Thus, outperforming and helping business and company to expand further.
An inclusive workplace ensures a positive and innovative work environment. An employee who belong to various ethnicity, minority, and LGBTQ community, when their existence and voice are heard, respected, and appreciated that is when the company true value increases in public eyes. According to Sophie Deering, “Employees are more likely to feel comfortable and happy in an environment where inclusivity is a priority. Equality in the workplace is important for encouraging workers from all backgrounds to feel confident in their ability and achieve their best. The higher the team morale, the more productive employees are”.
According to an article by Marinda O’Bryant and Amanda Weisner, CAHRS firm under the Diversity and Inclusion trends, to curb the discrimination faced by the female and to promote job satisfaction in the workplace come up with this framework which I think if implemented
successfully not just in Mexico but in countries around the world will help in making society more inclusive and diverse. “To improve gender diversity in Mexico, companies must follow this key framework (Figure 3) of C.L.I.M.B2:
C – Commitment of CEO and executive committee
L – Leadership development programs
I – Infrastructure programs fostering equality
M – Metrics and tracking of key performance indicators
B – Behaviors and inclusive mindsets, attitudes, and processes”.
