@bye-birojito that maybe be true. However there are a huge majority of feminist that say “Let boys cry and show their emotions” are the same people who laugh at the thought that just maybe men have issues that feminist and the media glosses over.

The depate on the new My Little Mermaid live action remake, I admit, got me a bit riled up and although I really don’t want Ariel’s skin colour changed in the live action remake, I wanted to try and change my little mermaid black to see what she looked like for fun.
I do still wish they would have made Halle Bailey Ariel’s cousin in the movie, that would have been really cool to see and would have avoided all this mess that is now dividing people. She is gorgeous and can sing so well, it sucks she is put now in a situation like this. I would SO stan diverse mermaid sisters, like they had in Pirates of the Caribbean. Or the original black mermaid in The Water Phoenix, she’s the real deal. However, I admit, I’m not living for them changing the main character’s classic looks though, like at all, for the sake of political correctness even - it’s not ok. It’s a part of her character and a part of her origin, the roots of which are entwined with Danish storytelling and book characters are just as much a part of our culture as historical figures. Or as someone else said: “This is a step backwards from representation in Disney movies. People have argued, and rightfully so that Disney is whitewashed. The solution is not to change the race of established princesses, it is to create more 3 dimensionalcoloured princesses. Don’t fight fire with fire.” Although her hair colour was never established, on all the book covers as well as the book description The Little Mermaid has always been pale skinned and Disney created their Ariel based on her. If this is a live action remake, then she should come to life as she is. We shouldn’t change classical heroes and heroines to create diversity, it’s insulting to those who actually are pale and grew up with Ariel and identified ourselves with her look as a little girl. It makes us equally feel erased. Especially gingers. It’s similarly repressing and unsettling to see than if the situation was reversed. We should instead push Disney and Hollywood hard to make more original characters of colour. That is something I 100% stand for and want. However, repressing any skin colour at the expense of another is not ok - whether it’s a mermaid, or a wizard or a superhero in a made up story or a historical person. They are equally part of our culture and past and it’s just not ok to change already established characters that are widely loved like this. It just pits different ethnicities against each other. Same goes for filmmakers changing black characters and gingers and Asians to white and vice versa. It’s not okay no matter from which side you look at it and we should fight against it. It shouldn’t be a crime to have white princesses or white characters in filmmaking, it’s a crime that more original character of different ethnicities are not created.

@vampireapologists which is a good thing. You were able to sit down with him and explained each other’s points of view. Though I am sure that you disagreed on some topics, you both were civil enough talk about your issues. Most people now at days, from what I see of the left, do not do this. They just completely shut themselves off from anyone that has an opposing view and put themselves in an echo chamber. Calling anyone who disagrees with them a fascist, neo-nazi piece of trash just because they disagreed with their view point.
If more people did what you did and just sat down with the “enemy” and got to see their side of things then you would get a better understanding of them even though you disagree.

@bombingbarrister The left would have justified it by saying how “It was for a good reason!” Because god forbid if the president gets upset after the democrats have purposefully stopped try at nearly every single angle whenever he tries to make the changes that this country needs. And continues to find any problem that Trump has had to impeach him and has failed numerous time, wasting hundreds of millions of dollars that could have been used for the US. They just want to be babies cause Hilary lost.
Just imagine if President Obama or Hillary Clinton had abruptly canceled a policy meeting with the Speaker of the House because the Speaker had just hurt their feelings, and then they went to the Rose Garden to play the victim on national television. Just imagine it.

@mysharona1987 This is the main reason why people on the left and th right are at each other’s throats. No one on the left is willing to sit down with someone with opinions that are the opposite of their own. They just call them racist and an alt-right nazi without even calming down and asking “why do they think like this?” “What in their life has lead them to feel this way?”. No on the left would willingly ask these questions but they are immediately pushed aside.
News flash being able to sit down with those you disagree with is a great way to end the political divide . So you can become more knowledgeable by knowing how they think and understand how they views everything.

Maybe the movies are trying to context itself to the comics. Cause you know, they ARE a thing in the comics.

I’m sorry if my post came of as mean. That wasn’t my intention. I was just saying how it’s not true that an unsexualized female lead doesn’t equal men not liking it. But if the only reason that men don’t like a movie is because it has an unsexualized female lead is stupid. Not only that but I think the problem didn’t just come from white men only.

Actually I did see it and I enjoyed it as well. I’m just saying that the idea that there are white men out there losing their minds and throwing a tantrum over a movie is stupid. Where there people upset before the movie was released? Yes but because of the movie being over hype and not wanting to be force fed more feminist ideals when most of us get enough of that on a daily bases.
Also who is the entitled one getting mad when someone has a different opinion?

That is not even the less bit true. Does a sexualized woman working to bring in men? Yes. The same way most woman will go see a movie because there is a sexualized man in movies. (Examples: Magic Mike, Baywatch And Isn’t It Romantic and have guys in trailers with shirts off and being sexualized) But even when a woman isn’t sexualized, men will still go because, if the movie seem interesting, they will see because it look cool. Example, Hunger Games starts a female lead, who is not sexualized once in the film series, yet many men love the movies.
Secondly, I thought the movie was going to flop because of the hype that feminist and the media were giving it. Usually when things are over hyped, the thing ends up sucking. But hey, I was wrong and so were other people who thought the movie was going to suck. But you can’t blame people for thinking it was going to.
