00:20, we start today’s episode by me telling you that I kind of messed yesterdays link up
Everything is working correctly though, so you can check out yesterday’s episode at aotd5
Let me tell you a story
00:42, you’ll hear a story I share with you regarding instacart, and the first time I heard about it.
**Shhh, no Uber. **
Instacart on the Oregon coast
In September when I got the email letting me know that Instacart is on the Oregon coast, of course I had to check that out.
It also helped that I was able to get some test money to check it out.
Hint, in case you can’t use Instacart yet.
Complaint about instacart on the Oregon coast
1:34, as I use air quotes I say the only complaint I have about Instacart is that it’s only available at one store in my area.
This being said however, at least it’s available in my area
If you’d like to check and look in your area, click here and get your free $10 with Instacart.
Lets talk about why I like Instacart on the Oregon Coast
2:11, as a completely blind individual I have the ability to quickly browse my local Safeway and see what’s available to me. Then, have the groceries that I need delivered to my front door.
2:27, I have the independence that’s typically not allotted of me while living in a rural community with limited to no public transportation.
2:40, you’ll love the story that I tell you about Jacob today, and how he gets paid between 15-$25 per delivery.
3:37, hint, this type of business is compatible for parents. What do you think, are they his, or did he kidnap them? ;)
Concluding todays AOTD
Now that we have Instacart on the Oregon coast, it’s very possible that they’re available in your area.
Why not check it out, and simply for signing up you’ll get a $10 credit, and if they’re not available maybe they’ll give you something else when they do become available.

BlindSquare
Today we are talking about the application called BlindSquare, a tool you can use to navigate the world around you.
I’ve use this application quite a bit in unexpected situations.
For example, when I was looking for a business that someone told me was around where I worked, and I needed more exact directions to find the front door.
What is BlindSquare
According to the What is BlindSquare page:
BlindSquare is the World’s Most Popular accessible GPS-app developed for the blind and visually impaired. It describes the environment, announces points of interest and street intersections as you travel. In conjunction with free, third-party navigation apps it is a powerful solution providing most of the information blind and visually impaired people need to travel independently. Your safety is our highest priority. BlindSquare is self-voicing, announcing points of interest, intersections and user-defined points through a dedicated speech synthesizer. The most important BlindSquare functions can be accessed through an audio menu via any headset or speaker that supports Apple’s music controller. This means you don’t need to touch the screen of your phone looking for tiny buttons when you travel with BlindSquare, because many functions can be activated using the physical buttons of your headset or bluetooth speaker. If you are blind or visually impaired, BlindSquare is your safe, reliable, and accessible GPS-solution.
Download this app today
Getting started with BlindSquare
If you’re interested in the article I mentioned on today’s podcast episode, here’s the article showing you how to get started with BlindSquare. The video at the bottom of that article, check it out and leave your comments for the Ryder.
How I used the BlindSquare app at work
When someone would recommend that we go somewhere for lunch at my previous job, the best opportunity I had for looking at restaurants around me was while Titan was relieving himself during my first break.
So, I would be looking for something on my phone, while Titan was looking for some place to go and then I would start to plan my root.
As you’ll see, i didn’t really have time to flick around an app, and try to explore it, and I think this is why:
One of my favorite features about this application is that it allows you to browse categories of businesses around you, and sort those business is based on what closest.
It was very easy for me to browse all of this information, and whenever I needed the application to work it just did.
There was never any fighting to find the information I needed, and once I found the information I needed I could easily send it to my favorite navigation app that I wanted to use for turn by turn directions.
Then, as I’m using my navigations turn by turn directions, I’m able to leverage the feedback from BlindSquare to help guide me exactly where I need to be in order to go into the business.
It’s an experience you need to have, and I only briefly cover the features on today’s podcast.
Have you ever used the BlindSquare app?
If so, share you’re experiences with the readers in the comments.
And don’t forget to check out convertkit for your email marketing needs today.

Backstory with the Google Wifi App
Before we get into todays content, I give you a little back story about why I decided it was time to upgrade our home to a google wifi like setup.
TLDL: We started dabbling in smart home fun, and our network couldn’t keep our streams going. we’re a cable cutting family. Listen at https://yourownpay.com/aotd2/ Click to tweet
The google wifi app setup
When we invested into the Google Wifi setup, we purchased a 3 pack. The setup of the app was very easy, the system walked me threw the process I needed to go threw to connect our fiber modem up to the Wifi network, and to connect any other hard wired device we had.
Note: The Google wifi system can only have one item plugged into ethernet with the modem, so there are only 3 ports on the bottom.
Your left ethernet port is your hard wired device port the port on the right is the one you plug your modem in. The USBC connection in the middle is the power port, and this is when you have the Wifi puck flipped over and on it’s top with the ports facing up and away from you.
Get the Google WIfi App
on IOS
or android
The Google Wifi app lets you set up and control your Google Wifi points or OnHub right from your mobile device. It puts you in control of your network – easily share your Wi-Fi password, see what devices are online, prioritize them for better performance, or pause the Wi-Fi on kids’ devices. The app also provides insights to help you get the most out of your Wi-Fi.
One of my favorite features of the Google Wifi App
is explained at about 3:30 in this podcast, however if you don’t have the time to listen briefly my favorite feature is:
no more asking if lites are blinking or are particular colors
I explain how this could be a pain in the past if you were looking into doing network management as a blind professional.
Another favorite feature of the Google Wifi App
is that you can do a google wifi speed test on any of the devices in your house. You can also test the speed between the google wifi puck hotspots, and even a speed test for the network to your home.
You can control who has access to your network, either via the main network or the guest network you set up.
In addition, you can use the on.here service to get access to your smart home for guests.
Controlling access threw the Google Wifi App
If you have teenagers or want to be teenager little ones maybe controlling night time access to your network is something you wished for.
In the past, the wifi network we used would either let you have wifi on or off on a schedule.
With the Google Wifi app, you can set a group of devices on a schedule.
For example, gaming systems and phones with computers and iPads can be grouped as one person, and with a double tap of a button you can instantly block access to the internet (minus what the device has buffered), or you can set those devices on a time/day based schedule for internet access.
This also doesn’t remove access to smart home items on the network, so it’s possible to still control lites and other items on your network.
Note: it’s important to know that if your child can control wifi access this can be bypassed via them simply disabling wifi.
The google wifi app always keeps your network updated.
Having the google wifi mesh setup with the app allows you to have an always up-to-date network.
I am fond of the fact that the google Wifi system will keep it’s-self up to date and allows you the chance to not have to worry about it.
You’re alerted within the app and can review what new features are brought to the network.
What do you think of the google wifi app
Are you using this app?
If so, what do you think of it?
Do you want more information about it? Let’s chat in the comments.

AOTD 1 - Drafts
AOTD 1 - Drafts
Looking for the best app for writing a book?
This is the Second take of the official first episode of “App of the day”.
Want to subscribe to just this section of the podcast? If so, simply add this feed to your podcast app of choice
It’s been entireally way two long!
Thanks to Convertkit for the 30% I get if you choose to pay them after clicking a link from one of my websites.
In this episode, You’ll learn that whenever an idea comes to me it starts in my favorite IOS app called drafts
and that it’s easy to start getting my idea into action
Drafts lives in the bottom corner of my iPhone, so it’s always there.
and not only that, but my content isn’t tied into one app
so if you are looking for the best app for writing a book?, and you need a place to start writing then you should check this episode out.
added benefit now is you can get drafts for free, so there isn’t an excuse for you to try it out
I don’t think that Drafts is the only app you need to write a book, but I do think it’s the best app to start writing your book with.
Just in case you didn’t know, or forgot, we chatted more about this app last year. In the episode titled DM6 – 2017 cool tools for MacOS and IOS.
Interesting, I think that episode is the one that inspired this series of podcast episodes.
If you got any value out of today’s episode, don’t forget to share with someone who is interested in looking for the best app for writing a book on IOS.

Drafts - AOTW1
AOTW 1 - Drafts
Tumblr media
The Drafts Logo Happy new year… And happy starts to new branch of the podcast… AOTW OR App Of The Week
What’s this app of the week?
This weeks application is one that we originally discussed in DM6 - 2017 cool tools for MacOS and IOS If your an iPhone user or someone who spends any time using that new iPad you may have gotten for Christmas, then you need drafts. If you got someone an iPhone or iPad, then you should gift them Drafts. They won’t be sorry.
Why do I need drafts?
In this podcast episode I discuss with you a few reasons you need drafts.
quick to start text
easy to access
text can be sent to other apps
and of course it supports markdown…
I didn’t mention that it connects with [apps like ]text-expander](http://smile.7eer.net/c/348359/337660/2936) mmm, how that’s nice at times 😜
What? You can send text to other apps?
The tagline
Where text starts.
Truly gives a good representation of the drafts application. Extensions has to be one of my favorite features of Drafts. After I get my text into drafts:
Via IOS dictation
or the native drafts dictation
I need to get it out of the app into something else… This is a lot easier then one may think. Hear are a few of the actions I use on a normal bases:
Action: Twitterrific | Drafts Action Directory
Send to Things
App: Byword | Drafts Action Directory
Have you used this app? If so, let us know some of your favorite actions or keyboard extensions. If your not using Drafts, then you should pick it up now and why not put it in your dock?

We take some time to talk about what our kids are getting for Christmas this year, and how we the adults are excited. Me and Michael both are really excited about my kids getting powered cars to ride! Michael thinks I’ll be chasing them around now, which he’s probably right. I won’t say what their getting at Michael’s house, just in case they actually read this😏 Did you hear the news yet? Michael has gone to work… That’s right, he has a new job. We spend some time talking about some of the services that he’ll be using at the new place. Of course, Michael is doing his best to figure out how to maximize his efficiency with the new tools, going as far as to get his own trials to work on at home. Hey, if any of you are familiar with Outlook on the web, give Michael a shout! You can get more details about how Michael’s experience with the new job are going by signing up for his weekly email round up below. I am sure we’ll be talking more about his experiences on future shows as well. [convertkit form=5123814] As always, you can interact with us on Twitter @Damashe and @Payown. Happy holidays and catch us next year🎆

Revenge porn, and autonomous vehicles
DM 30:
Tumblr media
Globe showing Australia We’re coming to you from Down under this week🇦🇺 OK… so we didn’t actually leave the country, but our two main topics are about things going on in Australia. First we share our thoughts about the announcement of Facebook’s efforts to put a stop to revenge porn. They’re running a trial of the idea in Australia, though perhaps they should have tried it internally first. Michael and I both think their position on Revenge Porn is correct, but their plans for prevention are a little 🙅 Michael also tells me about a new idea from the Australia Post, to use autonomous vehicles to deliver packages this holiday season🎁 It sounds interesting, and also informs us on how far along autonomous vehicles have come. The Australia Post is apparently only deploying these vehicles in a small area. Interesting things happening in Australia, and they get iPhones a day earlier… Alright, road trip! 🚌 🚆 🛥   Until next time, chat with us on Twitter, @damashe and @Payown.

Michael's wild Hare in DM29
DM29: A Wild Hare
Tumblr media
YOP Network Logo
Damashe and Michael are back this week to talk all about Michael’s recent changes to some of his course offerings. Michael recently made his WordPress from a blind users perspective course a free for feedback offering. Michael explains:
It was just a wild hare that I decided to run with. I needed to make my course better, and the best way to do that is to get feedback from users.
We get pretty deep in to the reasons for Michael to make this change, and also how joining Michael’s email list can yield some interesting announcements. Also on the agenda is an interesting conversation about the value of products, and how best to give that value. Damashe makes some suggestions on how Michael can continue to build the PayOwn Club to best fit the needs of its members. Michael also admits that
Facebook is probably the best for that
😱 We also mention that damashe.org is being redesigned, and you should definitely go sign up for Damashe’s email list, and get your Mobile Productivity toolkit.
Feedback welcome
We mentioned two weeks ago that we are shifting the show format a bit.

DM28_ Git does not equal GitHub
DM28: Git does not equal GitHub
Tumblr media
Terminal Screenshot
Hey… those two guys are back with a new episode! So what have wee been up to lately? Damashe is going to share his experience and experiment on his journey to graduate from WordPress implementation specialist to true developer. This is a really fun episode, because we get back to just having good conversations about the technologies we're using. We start this show talking about Damashe's domain habit and why it's Michael's fault😉
But that's just the teaser, because Damashe is going to tell Michael all about his experience with Bedrock, trellis, ansible, and WordPress local development. There's a brief explanation of Git somewhere, and Damashe disappoints Michael, because he still doesn't know if Virtualbox is accessible🤔
Here's an update
We have changed up the format of the show a bit, and we'd like to hear what you think about it. Here's what's changed starting with EP28:
The show is a little longer
The shows will probably cover a couple topics
We're trying out a fortnightly release schedule
We would both love to know what you think about the next few episodes, good or bad, so why not tweet at us, @Damashe and @payown.

3 ways podcasting has had an impact on business
3 ways podcasting has had an impact on business
Tumblr media
and starting my own podcast helped me build confidence, create relationships, and make money all at the same time. Hey, everyone. My name is Michael Babcock, and I am the host of the Your Own Pay podcast, a podcast started to motivate, inspire and educate entrepreneurs around the world. Since I started this podcast, in October of 2015, a lot of things have changed in my life and in my business. I’ve been changing my business model and the way that I work over the past couple of years. Using my podcast has helped with making this possible. Here are three ways that starting my own podcast has impacted my business. Hopefully, you’ll give it some consideration and think about starting your own podcast today.
confidence is a major impact on my business starting my podcasts has giving me
The first way that starting my own podcast has impacted my business is it’s given me confidence. You might not be aware of it when you
watch me
talk to me
or listen to me,
but often, I suffer with confidence issues. Unfortunately, I think this directly relates to the fact that I’m blind, and it’s one of the things that I think about while I’m walking around, or while I’m talking, or while I’m streaming live video. What are people thinking of what I’m doing and how are people taking the way that I’m doing something, and does this fit within society’s norm? Something that I don’t normally talk about, but it’s true, my podcast, the Your Own Pay podcast, and I’ve got to give a lot of credit of this to Damashe, since February of this year, and we’ll talk more about that later, but my podcast has given me the confidence to get out and do more live streams, and get out there and actually talk to people, and realize that people want to hear what I have to say.
Did you know that relationship building comes with podcasting?
The second way that podcasting has impacted my business is it’s built some amazing relationships that would have never been possible. Theresa and Michael Blaze, of the SBP podcast, Small Business Puzzle podcast, and I got connected. These guys spoke at Podcast movement. They know their shit. They are two blind individuals doing kind of the same thing that I’m doing, not really though because they specifically work with local businesses. I’ve also built relationships with Amanda heal, out of Australia. That has been both profitable and amazing when it comes to sharing information, with softwares as a service platforms and accessibility. Amanda, thank you for your feedback on some of the tools that we’ve tried out. I’ve met Marlon from Trinidad, and that was a complete unexpected experience, because my friend Amit from India, another person who I met because of the podcast, wrote up an advertisement for me, and I posted it on Blind Bargains, not thinking anything of it. As you might know, if we are left to our own devices, we’ll second-guess everything we’re doing. I knew that I could edit podcasts, and I knew that I could get content out there for people, but I always second-guessed myself when I wrote the advertisement. Amit wrote the advertisement, posted up on Blind Bargains, got Marlon from Trinidad to pay me. Hey, there’s two nations, one country and these nations are there, and I didn’t even know about them. Anyways, Trinidad and Tobago, great experience. I’ve also met people like you, people who are on the Periscope watching this, people who are streaming the podcast, people who are listening to the podcast right now. I’ve met you because I launched the podcast,
🤑 ok, so the podcast has also helped with making money two!
The third and final reason, definitely not most important, that podcasting has impacted my business, is it’s made me money,
simple as that
. Working with people like Marlon, working with people like Amanda, working with people like Donna, working with other individuals, VaShawn, and Tom, and the other group of individuals that I’ve connected with is because they built that relationship with me. As you can see, launching my own podcast has helped me three-fold and more, with my
confidence,
relationship building skills,
building money.
Those of you who are live on the Periscope, I’m going to engage with you here in a minute, so drop your questions in the chat. Those of you on the blog post or listening to this in the podcast, let me ask you, engage with me in the comments. Have you started your own podcast, and if you have, how has it impacted your business? If you haven’t, why not?
