Love is in the Small Things We Take for Granted by Nidhi Chanani
Kolkata native Nidhi Chanani is a freelance California-based illustrator who aims to capture the beauty in the significant but overlooked warm moments in life. When Chanani decided to pursue her career in art, her main motive was to make people happy. Her purpose is to capture the tender moments in between the rush and rhythm of daily life, such as s simple morning hug, sharing a light night snack, a good night kiss, or the welcoming home after a hard day at work.
Dreamy and colorful, Chanani’s work depicts the art of love in the micro moments, which inevitably become habits of living. Told in a series of caricatures and surreal scenes, the artist portrays all stages of a relationship, from going on a first date to growing old together. You can find her work in her Etsy shop.

What if I told you that I love you? So fucking what? I don’t understand our fixation, as a culture, on those three little words. Obviously I haven’t known you that long. But does it really make that big of a difference? And obviously the depth of my affection doesn’t have the strength that is afforded to it by time and the experience of simply knowing you. So what then? Am I to only reserve those words for the way they’re expressed in media, films, and romantic comedies? Am I supposed to hold on to them for a special moment, as if I were proposing to you? Why can’t I just let it spill out when my affection for you, or anyone else, swells and boils over. Or when you do something I adore. Why do we pretend love is some sort of step you take, or level that you reach, and not something that you experience in one form or another every single day? It’s too universal, the expression of love shouldn’t be restricted or compartmentalized.
Probably won’t make that three word admission any time soon. But still, don’t be weird.

I tried to silence my heart. But how do you silence something that is meant to be heard?
