Black & White 痞子英雄 (2009) - Whump List
Also known as: Pi zi ying xiong
Synopsis: Wu Ying Xiong (on the left) and Chen Zai Tian (on the right) are two radically different cops. Forced to collaborate on a drug trafficking investigation, their opposing personalities lead to clashes and distrust between them. Monitored and manipulated by organizations with dark agendas, will they be able to put aside their differences and work together?
Notes: Yet again an amazingly whumpy show (just check this list below!) that I never see mentionned anywhere. If you're into bromance, and not too bothered by never-ending plot-twists, then you're in the right place. Just try to ignore the 2000's hairstyles and fashion, and the weird af siblings relationships (well... it's a Taiwanese show... it's to be expected...). Enjoy!

Synopsis: A yankee, Wataru, in love with a girl from his high school's female rythmic gymnastic team decides to join the male's team in order to impress her. But by doing so, he's bringing his life problems to a team that is already facing various issues. Not caring at all about tumbling at first, he little by little changes his mind while spending time with the team's members and especially its captain, Yuta.
Notes: This one deserves to be fully watched, from the beginning to the end! It's a very nice little story with adorable and inspiring kids. I did not include all the emotional whump because these boys just keep on sobbing throughout the entire story (and the physical whump is already more than enough lol).

Kamen Teacher 仮面ティーチャー (2013) - Whump List
Synopsis: Gota Araki begins work at a new high school as the 2nd Year, Class C's homeroom teacher. The students in Class C are delinquents, who have no respect for authority figures. Gota Araki is a Kamen Teacher: he's authorized by the government to use violence to disciplinate rebellious students with the condition of hiding his identity. However, after a fatal accident a year before, he's determined to bring back the students on the right path without laying a finger on them. He soon discovers that it's going to be harder than expected.
Notes: A short and fun little drama. A cool teacher, some hurt and sad boys who just need a shoulder to lean on, well-made fight scenes... The whumpees are Araki-sensei and his students.

Original Sin 原生之罪 (2018) - Whump List
Synopsis: Lu Li (on the left), a talented young cop promoted to chief of police within just a few years, is the son of a convicted serial killer. Chi Zhen (on the right) is a former lawyer turned businessman after loosing his right to practice, whose sister was one of the serial killer's victims. Reunited by a new series of murders, they need to find a way to collaborate despite their clashing personalities in order to catch the killer.
Notes: I wasn't sure if it was worth a whump list honestly, but there are some nice bits of whump (ep. 4 and 24) and tension / angst between the two leads that decided me to make one. Apparently a season 2 was supposed to happen, but due to a problem with one of the main actors, it’s postponed to an indefinite date, so be ready for an open ending.

Synopsis: Yoshizawa Tsuneo appears in a Tokyo high school third grade class as a new homeroom teacher. Some students in this class tend to bully their homeroom teachers until they quit, but he keeps a smile on his face, even though he is attacked verbally and physically by the students. Frustrated, these students concoct a plan to permanently get rid of him. But Yoshizawa Tsuneo won't leave, for he's after the one who attacked his girlfriend and left her in a comatose state.
Notes: I stumbled upon this one on accident, binged it in three hours and was left confused about what I just watched. It's a weird mix of lame humor, depressing thriller and cheesy horror. Enjoyable whump though, so here we are :)

Danger Zone 逆局 (2021) - Whump List
Synopsis: A series of despicable crimes in the city of Donglin leaves a team of police officers, lead by Tan Chong Hui (on the left), in a dead end. Among them, the young cop Ren Fei (on the right), dealing with the trauma of his mother's death, is contacted by a prisonner, Liang Yan Dong (in the center) who might have meaningful insight on the case. Wrongfully accused of assault and murder attempt, Liang Yan Dong hopes that this collaboration will allow him to clear his name and bring justice to the victim.
Notes: It was devided into two "chapters", so it's sometimes referred as one season with 24 episodes, and sometimes as two seasons of 12 episodes. Personaly, I think the second half is way less fun that the first one, but the 2nd half's ending credit is fire.

Sweet Combat 甜蜜暴击 (2018) - Whump List
Synopsis: Fang Yu (on the right) was raised to become the sole successor of the Fang Conglomerate, yet she goes against her family's objections to pursue boxing and win the championship title at the young age of 18. Ming Tian (on the left) comes from a poor family. He decided to apply for a sports scholarship despite not having any background and having to take care of his little brother and sister. Fang Yu becomes his trainer, and new feelings start to develop between them.
Notes: I know, I know, it's not what I usually go to for whumperflies either. Sweet Combat is... well, sweet. It's bubbly and colorful and cute and endeering. BUT it also has some whump (esp. ep. 5, 8, 10, 11, 16, 27, 32, 33) . The fact that the whump is so serious in comparison to the overall atmosphere makes it all the more precious imo. And I have a soft spot for sport dramas. The girls are also pretty badass!

Whumpees: Mukai Shiro, Shiiba Gaku, Marumo Taiji, Urabe Osamu
Synopsis: At Kushima High School, the only law that reigns is that of the strongest. Shiiba Gaku is a student who recently transferred there. His goal is to defeat "Shake", the school's strongest student, in order to take control of it. The only thing is that Shiiba Gaku isn't as good of a fighter as he seems to think, but it doesn't stop him from relentlessly picking up fights in order to prove his strength without ever admitting defeat. His unique demeanour inspires some other students, Marumo Taiji, Urabe Osamu and Shiro Mukai, who gather the courage to run after the same dream.
Notes: Probably one of the worst opening credits I’ve ever listened to (well, I actually found myself dancing along after a few episodes lmao, so not that bad I guess?). This drama is absolutely ridiculous, but it’s funny and hella whumpy, why would I ask for more? I just wish women were not so objectified but, well, it’s Japan. Synopsis: When Zhao Long-jie (on the right) heads to the seashore to pour his grandfather’s ashes in the ocean, he meets a strange and scary naked man, who creeps in his bathroom a few hours later. When the man enters the bathtub, his legs transform into a beautiful tail. The short-tempered merman, that Long-jie start calling Li Ren-yu (on the left), can’t go back to the sea unless he finds a way to fulfill Long-jie’s grandfather’s last wish within 49 days, this wish being for Long-jie to finally be happy.
Notes: On the 9457th episode of "IS IT BL????", nope, it’s not. But it might as well be. It’s extremely homoerotic to say the least. And since it’s pride month I thought it would be the best moment to make a list for it. It’s also fun, and whumpy, and short, so you can binge it. Love ya as always!

The Journey Across the Night 我在香港遇见他 (2020) - Whump List
Synopsis: Li Jia (on the right), a 23-year-old man, goes to Hong Kong to study psychiatry for a pressing reason. His family has a genetic disease that caused his mother and brother to be diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 24 and he is desperate to escape the same fate. While racing against the clock, he meets Zhang Chacha, a young woman who works in a rental agency, and Shi Cheng (on the left), an anatomy student. Together they investigate cases involving mentally ill people and have to face their own demons.
Notes: You can thank Shi Cheng because most of the good whump comes from him (ep. 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 21). The bromance between Li Jia and Shi Cheng is really sweet and I, for once, loved the FL, as she’s witty and flirty and has the cutest outfits, so it was a delight to see the relationship between these three develop. The last episode ruin the entire show though, it's obvious they were trying to get a second season... Honestly, just skip it.

One day, after he gets involved with one bully at school, he finds himself sucked into a spiral of violence.
