Name a better feeling than getting the first comment on a fic you were uncertain about and knowing that at least one person liked the tiny piece of your brain that you put on the internet

When talking to toddlers, you have to be extremely, explicitly clear about what you say, cover every possibility you can think of in which they might misunderstand it, and with trial and error and experience, you'll learn to also cover the possibilities that wouldn't have crossed your mind. If you tell a toddler, "whatever you do, do not touch that electric wire. Not even with your pinky finger, because if you do, you will die" and once you're finally sure they understood that, you'll turn your eyes away for two seconds
and they're right at the wire, trying to see what happens if they'll touch it with their pinky toe instead.
You don't usually have to do this with adults. An adult who is allergic to pineapples can hear someone say, "eating pineapple is good for you", evaluate this piece of information, conclude that this is probably true for people who aren't allergic to pineapple, shrug it off and carry on with their day.
Unless you're on tumblr. Tumblr posts must be worded like toddler talk, cover every possibility in which someone might misunderstand it, remember to mention people who do not have this problem you are talking about, cannot employ this solution, or who otherwise have nothing to do with this conversation.
You can't just say "eating pineapple is good for you", you'll have to make sure to specify "eating pineapple is good, unless you are allergic to pineapple, in which case do not eat pineapple". And then get promptly informed that you you forgot to mention people who suffer from some extremely rare cliantro-soap-gene that makes pineapple taste like ass, and consequently offended someone who still ships Harry Potter Characters.

Honestly, the idea of implementing Discord-style reactions on Tumblr isn’t a completely terrible one.
Tumblr likes are functionally meaningless save as a mechanism for popular blogs to keep score anyway, so letting folks effectively colour-code their likes for individual posts by choosing a symbol to associate with them wouldn’t do any particular violence to the site’s functioning – it’d just get subsumed into the post’s overall note count.
However, I suspect that suddenly having dozens of icons to choose from when liking a post would be an intimidating adjustment for the site’s established userbase; it might be best to start gradually, with a smaller set of options – perhaps just three or four.
And you know, since we already have hearts

In principle I have no issue with an American Eurovision, but what bothers me is that they aren’t copying the right things. The whole point of Eurovision is that it’s continent-wide, covering a shit-ton of different countries that have vastly different musical traditions and barely speak the same language, and they had a chance to do that! It could have been North America! We could have watched the USA discovering the much-needed humbling of footing the bill for a continental event and getting a straight pass to the final, only to get fucking trounced through political voting because everyone hates your piece of shit fascist government! There are 23 sovereign states in North America. We could have watched as the USA and Canada miserably trade votes that no one else will give them, while the entire Caribbean forms a voting block that goes head to head with a wall of Latin American countries. We could have sympathetically nodded as Israel, Australia and Azerbaijan all get added and everyone complains about whether or not they should be allowed. We could have cheered as the USA snidely mock the Haitian entry, only to watch it win as they themselves slide to a humiliating nil point loss because they fielded NSYNC doing some soulless acoustic ballad in a desperate bid to reclaim the glory days. We could have had the delight of 21 different national hosts announcing how wonderful it is to have this incredible night in which we are all united in spite of our differences before announcing voting results so heavily political that countries literally have to formally apologise to one another the next day.
But no, it’s X-Factor with a slightly flashier voting system and more flags. What a disappointment. I bet they won’t field even one vampire.
