Lightning and the “Divine Comedy” quote

The following quote by Lightning is straight out of Dante’s “Divine Comedy” (Inferno). It seems like he rewrote it to his liking or it was translated a little bit differently.

“Through me you pass into the city of woe: Through me you pass into eternal pain: Through me among the people lost for aye. (....)

All hope abandon ye who enter here.”

It marks the entry to hell in Dante’s “Inferno”.

Yugioh and the Blood Moon

This one is specifically mentioned in Yugioh Arc-V and VRAINS, but there are also cards referencing the red moon or blood moon in some way, whether it is the art or name (red eyes, etc.).

What does it stand for and where does it come from?

As we’ve learned from the series, in VRAINS it is meant to signal something bad happening. People are scared of the blood moon. There is actually more symbolism behind it: It is referencing a part of the so called Book of Joel.

The claim of a blood moon being a sign of the beginning of the end times originates in the Book of Joel, where it is written "the sun will turn into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes."

Could this lord possibly be Bohman, who would become divine, when combining all the Ignises power, as he becomes a god? Is it Z-arc in Arc-V?

This doesn’t seem to be too far fetched, as VRAINS is leaning on The Devine Comedy by Dante and Prometheus, which is something I will later on describe more detailed. Arc-V is leaning on Buddhist Cosmology and Shintoism, for those who didn’t know.

The blood moon also is prophesied in the Book of Revelation chapter 6 verses 11 – 13, where verse 12 states, "And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood."

6 seals, like 6 ignises?

 4 eclipses in a row are known as ‘Tetrad’. Some people claim, that every Tetrad was followed by originally tragic events, which were followed by triumph in some way.

In Yugioh VRAINS the blood moon often appears before a tragic event happens, for example, right before Earth dies in episode 75 or when Windy injured/killed his partner. The 4 eclipses could reference the 4 Yu-Boys and tragic events in Arc-V too.

What do Bohman, Go and Einstein have in common?

WTF is what you might be thinking now.

Humans are not 100% calculatable.

Go Onizuka

Go Onizuka used an AI chip in hope to beat Playmaker and become more powerful, but even tho he was able to calculate everything very carefully, he was not able to beat Playmaker.

Bohman

Lightning saw something special in Ai and Yusaku. Instinct, something very unlikely to be found in A.I.’s. Bohman later learned about this and understood that human potential is hardly calculatable, at least not accurately, there is always a small chance of hope for another outcome, which is why Bohman decided to pull a Joey Wheeler and gamble with a dice!

However, this is actually not just random Yugioh nonsense, but actually something referencing Albert Einstein.

While Albert Einstein was a respected physicist one of his claims turned out to be false.

‘Gott würfelt nicht’ (God does not play dice!)

This is one of Einstein’s most famous quotes and it was often said to be misinterpreted. Because he was mostly right with the things he said, it took decades till it was proven that Einstein was, in the way he said it, wrong.

Now, Einstein didn’t believe in Religion or anything, so this was not to straight out say ‘god doesn’t exist’, but rather to say ‘he sure doesn’t play dice’, everything has rules and Einstein was searching for a rule to prove he was right, he didn’t like the probability in quantum mechanics and claimed everything has rules there aren’t any hidden variables that can’t be calculated.

A man called Niels Bohr responded with something like ‘who are we to tell god how to reign the world?’

This is about quantum physics and Einstein believed and searched for something to prove his point, but as it turns out there are some things that seem to be impossible to predict and calculate, so it seems like Einstein was wrong and proven wrong in the way he worded it, no matter how it is interpreted.

So, when Bohman who was on his way to become divine realized this and claimed that this is how it is and Go lost to Playmaker even tho he was able to calculate everything, he was not speaking Yugioh nonsense alone, but actual facts.

Revolver, the blue flowers and their meaning

Everybody for sure remembers the death scene of Revolver / Ryoken in season 2 of VRAINS. He’s thinking about his childhood, while lying down on a flower bed, but what are these flowers called and what do they stand for?

They are so called ‘balloon flowers’ or  Platycodon (in Japanese  桔梗, Kikyou ) and they can stand for friendship, endless love and honesty.

The meaning of the name ‘Fujiki Yusaku’

Fujiki Yusaku is the main protagonist of Yugioh VRAINS.

His name is written ‘ 藤木遊作 ’

The used Kanji are Yuu (Game, 遊 ) and Saku (Work, 作 ).

However, the used Kanji could also be read as “Play” and “Make” which is likely where his avatar name in LINK VRAINS “Playmaker” came from.

However, way more interesting is his family name  藤木 .

Fujiki is the Japanese word for some sort of tree (or vine) called ‘wisteria’ in English. It comes in many different colours, like pink, blue and purple, which are the colours used for Yusaku and Ai. The wisteria has many different cultural and symbolic meanings. Here is a list of some of them, that also fit the series and theme.

A.I.’s Hymn is a reference to a romantic love song

A.I.’s Hymn or Ai no Sanka [ Ａｉの賛歌 / 愛の賛歌 ] is a reference to a love song, originally written in French “ Hymne à l'Amour”, but there was also a popular Japanese version which very loosely leans on the original.

This is the English translation of the Japanese version “Ai no Sanka”.

Hold me in your burning arms

I want to live with you, just the two of us

Till I die, I just want to love

Till I die, I’ll love you

Press your cheek against mine

Burn me with your kisses

Meld with me in pleasure

I wouldn’t need anything

(This is very interesting, as the Ignis were named after the legend of the forbidden fire, thus that means that Ai’s fire is the burning flame of love.)
